  • @DiscoRByrno waste of time commenting on comments that are meaningless and a waste of time..

  • Sounds like his tone to me

  • great tone. i'd love to see those nashville tuning vids you're talking about.

  • @eljib just put up some country vids!

  • someone likes eric johnson, but really nice playing very skilled obviously well taught even kept the thumb behind the neck rather than wrapped around.

  • @xGunslinger7x I was kind of in an EJ phase when I put up all these videos a few years back. I'm more into the telecaster/nashville thing these days, I'll put up more vids soon.

  • @xGunslinger7x u actually get more control of bends and vibrato with ur thumb wrapped areound, however, its harder to play faster. thats why i switch between both depending on the lick

  • @DiscoRByrno you don't need to play the cyber-police. I actually agree with cosmogang. I've seen EJ twice and have met him, but sometimes his music doesn't do it for me. But oh well, to each their own.

  • is that just the deluxe strat?

  • @CanadaRoksEh not technically. It's a 2005 USA standard, and I put the tortoise pickguard and SCN pickups in it.

  • perhaps a little more practice

  • @MarkWhitman0291 and that's coming from you?...

  • @blahman178 yea it is guy.... dont be pissed because you are sloppy.

  • You think you are a virtuoso? Record a rhythm and solo, and we will see who is better??? haha

  • @MarkWhitman0291 You're obviously an ass. Musicians like you make me sick. It's not about who's better or who's worse, it's about making music. Just leave the dude alone, he's doing fine and sounds great. That's the problem with musicians these days, they have to compare "dick sizes" in order to feel accomplished.

  • @MarkWhitman0291 ... Give us a ring when you can cop EJ's phraseology like this guy does. Until that.. STFU. IOW your attitude annoys me (and, I'll wager, a few other people).

This is not a competition, it's sharing chops. Grow up and move on. Any YT clip I can learn from is +1 and based on what I saw on yours, you have a ways to go. I'm jus' sayin'.

  • @MarkWhitman0291 just for the record I was 14 when this was recorded. so i have had a little more practice since then

  • nice. Def some shades of EJ in your playing and tone.

  • Nailed it man!! Sounding Great!

  • Can you tell us the settings on the DMM? Repeats and time? thx . . .

  • that sounded great.

  • Good job. I think its funny. I love Eric Johnson's tone. I love his playing style. I love his gear and his approach to his tone, but I hate his music. Excluding COD, his music is so bad - I just can't listen to it!

  • Hi, nice vid, i try to change my licks during impro but I don't knwo what kind of stuff use! I like this type of playing, what type of scale or phrasing do you use ?

  • the begining really sounds like joe bonamassa

    aweesoeme tho 5 star

  • Wow man sick, you look mad young to.

  • @guitarpro42 thanks man. i was 15 when i recorded this. , i uploaded about 8 months after it was recorded.

  • I hear some EJ. :) The tone itself isn't the same but playing EJ style licks, all together it's pretty close. Most people that make videos "in the style of EJ" are never even close. You got closer then most.

  • @jonw82 thanks man I appreciate it!

  • not exactly same but too close to EJ tone, and you got a very nice tone anyway!

are they true single coil pickups or stacked humbuckers?

  • @bulenterdem1977 thanks i did my best with only pedals, I wish I had a plexi haha. these are some SCN fender pickups. they are true single coils that use weird magnets to cancel noise. they are dead quiet but sound like shit, don't buy them

  • Yeah, i'd pay it as a pretty close EJ tone haha, nice playing as well!!

  • Nice playing and great tone dude!

  • @GATvsGAT thanks!

  • Man! Wicked stuff! Nice work and ultra-clean picking... woud love to hear that without the webcam mic, though.

Anyway, tone for days, great job. And overdrives stacked just like EJ (although he's got a vintage Marshall or two on "11" as opposed to some pedals ;))!

  • sounds more like eric clapton or joe bonamassa than eric johnson. which means you are close, but not quite there yet. sounds like you could get rid of some highs, maybe some more gain, perhaps a fuzz. its kinda hard to get his sound though seeing as you pretty much need a cranked marshall to do so.

  • @timmy47 thanks man!!! I was trying my best to approximate his tone with pedals. I'm really happy considering the fact that i got relatively close with only pedals. I have a fuzz pedal, check out some of my other videos where i'm using it.

  • @blahman178 one thing ive tried that seems to work is setting the EQ with highs at 3, mids at 5, and bass at 7. also i turn the tone pot down on the bridge to like 2.5 and i can get this almost hollow sound. if you listen to camels night out sometimes it sounds like he's on the neck pickup, but its the bridge. and i saw he has like almost no highs, mid on like 3-4, and bass on like 5. although your tone is good as is. might not want to get his exact sound anyway.

  • @timmy47 true, i typicaly have my EQ stacked that way but a hair less bass than you mentioned. I think the thing that makes my tone have more high-end bite here than EJ's is that i don't have the tone pot on the strat turned down far enough. also has all those nice classic late 50's/early 60's strats with really thick fat sounding pickups, I'm using crap pickups on a decent guitar, so it's really hard to emulate his sound.

  • @blahman178 How do you have the amp set?

  • @tractorKing ehh i don't remember since this was over a year and a half ago, but probably baout like i keep it now, treble at about 10 oclock, bass and mids abt about 1 oclock.

  • Still not worthy

  • @GreatKeeper544 thanks nice halo video.......

  • you really need to learn how to use your little finger.

  • @leeislee hahaha true i didn't back then, I just noticed haha

  • Great, you really nailed the tone :D

  • violin tone? where?

    all i hear is bluesturbation.....*yawn*

  • @LittleEmoBoy001 haha I was purposely trying to play like Eric Johnson, his tone is known as a violin tone. And he uses mostly pentatonic major and minor scales (different than a blues scale which has a flat 5 but you probably wouldn't know the difference anyway).

  • @blahman178 : great job!! but i guess more reverb will make it more closer to EJ tone.. keep the good work!!

  • @blahman178 Pentatonic minor is the same exact scale as the blues scale, except for that one note. But you can certainly hear the blue note when it's played. Even people not musically trained can recognize the blue note in most cases..

  • @PilotDoofy but the flat 5 makes it a different scale, calling a blues scale the same as pentatonic is incorrent. all it takes is one note to distinguish two scales from one another, the sharp 4th changes an ionian/major to lydian. a flat 7th changed ionian to mixolydian/dominant. also the blues scale has 6 notes so it technically isn't pentatonic haha

  • @blahman178 Yes, it's a different scale thats why I named them both, but its different by only one note. Nothing of what I said is untrue you just wanted to parade some theory knowledge. Hope you feel smarter. :)

  • @PilotDoofy you don't need to try and undermine the point I was making by calling it an excuse to "parade theory knowledge". I consider modes of the major scale to be very basic knowledge and just about anyone could talk circles around me about theory.

  • @blahman178 Don't listen to that guy. It sounds great bro...keep it up!!:)

  • @blahman178 I disagree...when one liberally applies major and minor pentatonic scales and adds the flat 5, it makes a huge difference. If you do it when playing Eric's music, it throws off the whole balance, and it doesn't sound like him anymore. You're better off adding a 9th to the mix than a b5 with Eric's music.

  • good sound dude ive been trying to figure out his tone. i really want to buy a processing unit that can get it rather than buying a bunch of individual pedals. ive been looking at the boss me 70 recently i need to play with it more to figure it out though...

  • Hello. Do you remember what your signal chain was? What was first - the zendrive or the BB. In other words was it guitar -> bb -> zendrive -> DMM -> amp OR guitar -> zendrive -> bb -> DMM -> amp ? Regards

  • Hi thianks for watching! The signal was guitar --> Lizard Leg Flying Dragon (clean boost) ---> zendrive ---> BB preamp ---> DMM.

As for you asking about placement of OD's, whichever OD is closest to the amp in the chain, or farthest from the guitar is going to have the greater effect on the overall tone. For example, since I had the BB last, the midrange aggressive marshall-y sound of it really came through, whereas if I had the Zendrive farthest, my tone would be affected more by the Zen

  • it's closer to joe bonamassa's tone actually

  • yeah i could see that, but he has even said that his tone is based around EJ's but he uses mostly Les Pauls now, so his tone has got more gain than EJ's tone because of the HB's

  • @brownbigb that's true. I don't mind though. I wish i had a plexi and echoplex and tube drive, etc, but I'm happy to have been this close for less than a quarter of the price haha

  • that sounds fuckin awesome dude!!!!!!!!

  • thanks a lot!

  • hey bud. whats are your settings? share the wealth!

  • I honestly don't remember but I just dialed in both for a pretty warm tone I think.

  • Kick.

    Ass.

    Thats all

  • thanks man

  • Sounds rad.

  • thanks man! you have the best tone of almost anyone I've seen on youtube. this is as close as I could get with pedals. thanks for watching!
