It's not THAT powerful, people. It's plenty powerful enough to crack any thickness of crab shell that it could possibly eat, but it's not a "one hit KO", nor can one "smash" glass. I've only seen one chip glass on one occasion, and none have ever broken it.

It's beating on the crab because it's the concussion that kills it. After the first couple of blows, the crab's punch drunk and the mantis can continue punching on it at it's leisure.
