Thanks for posting this. Vallet is one of the most understimated lutanists today.
When playing this piece, I have always troubles in the section with the bass divisions under the melody, because when beating the runs with thumb and index the octave string is dominant in the index beat which sounds somewhat "hopping". I am amazed how well this section works when you play it. Congratulations!
Vallet is one of my favorite composer for the lute (ok, one of, I have many favs...) But I like very much his music, and specially the Allemande Fortune Hélas..."
Bonjour Val, really well done! I'm astound about your sound quality. Your original video, must be even better before you place it on youtube I guess. Have a nice day. Ernst
i´d just adopted this for my new C-theorbe, of course, it works there best in key of C-major (similar to Pascale Bouquet´s version and using mainly the empty bass strings). there is great lack of easy (interesting)pieces for beginners at the theorbe. this piece gives a good motivation (as Uccellini´s, also transposed to into C-major), Kapsberger´s can be played from the original tab, however it sounds at C ;-)) and one couplet ist rather complicated ...
I have one question, if I may: the right hand looks so "weird" Does that come naturaly, or has this been hard work? and when (if) you go back to a normal guitar, do you have to adapt long after?
in fact I work with this right hand position since "so many" years, and it is a very natural and comfortable position for the lute. When I play the guitar now (without nails on a low tension stringed romantic guitar) I use the same position. The classical guitar right hand position seems, to me, not natural at all... Question of being used to, I suppose.
Thanks for answering that question. I, too, was wondering about that. I'm still amazed how you play on that wide fretboard. Oh yes, this piece you just played is lovely.
I play classical guitar, and I do use the correct right hand position. But I don't know how it is in a romantic guitar, because of it's shape. The correct position of the right hand is pretty comfortable and swift.
magnifique!! :) bravo valery!! :) xx
