  • You Didnt Explain How It Filters... No One Can See If the Filter itself Cleans the Water. Does the Water Pass Straight through the Middle of the Fitler before it goes through the Outer Part... How Does the Filter itself Work... Dont show the Pump action Thats the Obvious Part of the Filter.... I would like to see how the Cartidge works....

  • What pack is that in the vid?

  • CLEANING TIP i have read katadyn used to give you a brush, well when you clean your filter cartridge take an old tooth brush before using scouring pad, less cleaning needed with the scouring pad then.

i have an old tooth brush in the storage bag just fro that reason

  • @blackbat1339 great tip !!

  • I attached my pocket filter to military grade camel back beast, and they connect good but when I'm filtering water comes out the connection. how did you get yours to work? And yes the port is open on the bladder.

  • Since NO personal backpacking water filter removes viruses, I HIGHLY suggest adding the MSR MIOX to your filter kit. I am putting together the Katadyn Pocket filter and the MSR MIOXX, which BTW also kills VX Nerve agent, among other chemical weapon formulations. The MSR MIOX is used by the Dept. of Defense for a reason.

    Shalom, and happy hiking!

  • @RestoreLatterHouse thanks I will look into that

  • can u use this with sea water (salt water)???

  • @deadlee123 What for? Sea water isn't suitable for drinking anyway. You need desalinator. Katadyn do produce desalinators.

  • @deadlee123 NO They have a desalinator kind. Look into it. DO NOT USE WITH SALT WATER.

  • @deadlee123 No !!!

  • Thanks for loading this video. This is the one I have owned for MANY yrs. It's issued to the SAS, US Army SF, SeAL Teams, and a long list of others. It is possible to filter up to 13,000 gallons with it. Water should be your # 1 priority in your pack! I would not skimp on this. The "Pocket" is the very best you can get. One thing I always do is to pre-filter through a Tee shirt and allow the sediment to settle before I pump the water through.

  • dose it need carbon for safe drinking water

  • @The1911aMansGun no that being said the none carbon filters do not remove vires or taste so it depends on where you are and what you need

  • Can it handle dirty...murky water?

  • @Quantrill71 ya it did great at the pathfinder gathering this year I filtered some water that was dirty, mudy and a lot of goose crap jest to test it. after about a 1\2 gal I had to clean it but that was xtrem conditions ,, the water came out clear and clean

  • @xdmatt1320 at a pathfinder gathering? are you sda?

  • @mva1985 SDA???

  • @xdmatt1320 not to worry if you don't know what sda means i know your not one :-)

  • @Quantrill71 i used this last summer ...i got lost at night on a trail..all i had was a stagnet frog pond..green and brown water...water was clearer than tap water ...put it in my aquastar plus bottle ...and give it a dose of UV treatment...the taste was a a little fishy ..still alive today good heath..cabon filter would improve taste

  • be careful not to store wet in the winter below zero climates ...i called the company i will crack the filter if its not completely dry...i have used mine on a brown stagnet frog pond ...6 months ago i am still alive i guess it works ...

  • I just tried tha Lifesaver 6000L water Bottle and I have to say, despite the 15nm claim,, the Lifesaver is a piece of Shit.. flimsily built, water tastes like plastic chemical- even after priming, It Leaks alot, not hold much water, just too many other things to go wrong with it... Needless to say I'm going back to my Katadyn Pocket which has NEVER FAILED me yet during extreme use, and always provided me great tasting water from some pretty nasty looking water sources... hope this helps.. peace

  • How well does it filter bacteria and parasites?

  • Its kinda interesting that you had the inlet and outlet hoses backwards in your intro. I am glad you got those switched around before you started filtering!

  • @Parnelli15 ya i still have to think about it every time i use it to make sheer the hoses are on the rite way i should mark them ..

  • @poodooyou1 You are right, the Lifesaver is impressive: 15nm filter which filters viruses rather than 200nm filter that only gets rid of bacteria, possibility of active carbon that the Katadyn pocket do not have. I do not know if it is reliable or how long would it last until clogged or even if cleaning and drying is easy. But it seems much more serious than the Katadyn and at a lower price.

  • @Mateyhv1 I agree the specs look great on the lifesavers but i've read more than a few bad reviews.

So perhaps the specs on it should be taken with a grain of salt.

I'd like to get a Nutnfancy style hour long review on the Lifesaver just cause I know he is a reliable thorough source.

Also though its not part of the finished product and seems a jerry rigged. Alot of people use coffee filters secured with a rubber band as to extend the life of the filters and time between cleanings.

  • @poodooyou1 I dont know about the nm but it dose filter out down to 1 micron I was at the pathfinder gathering this week and it filtered some prity nasty stuff goose crap and all

  • thanks for the info

  • Yup, it is impregnated with silver!

  • @rockandrope Not sure about that, I couldn't find that in the specifications, they only say it has a ceramic filter.

  • I do not think so they say to run bleach through it when done
