  • I was in the fire section R.A.F Masirah from oct 73 june 74 i loved it, but i was glad to go home.

  • Great upload I visited there several times from RAF Sharjah in 1970 with the Dental team. My most vivid memory was watching a Medic give a Camel a penicillin injection for an infected hoof, it shit all over the place including him! lol.

  • I'm Keri Morgan and I was there in 1975 (my last posting) and worked in the commcen. My favourite memories was sunbathing at the pool in between shifts with some of the best mates I've ever had. I'd be chuffed if anyone recognizing me could get in touch at kerimorgan@sky.com

  • Brilliant!!! I was on Masirah 73/74, caught it to a T; well done... Do you know about RAF Masirah reunion in Harrogate Oct 2011?

  • Found this through Google Earth. Served here '74 in the Movements Sqdn.

Brilliant! Fab memories came flooding back! Chocolate milk 'hmmn'

    Many thanks!

  • Passed thru in 72 then left RAF 76 and spent 3 years at Seeb/Thumrait....went back to Maz many times.....thanks for memories !!!!

  • In SOAF 76-79...masirah often...fond memories....

  • Beautiful film! Returned for holiday(trip down memory lane) in 2005 with my teenage son. Wonderful hospitality from locals; especially after I'd shown pics of lots of them when they were kids! Taken on a tour by the Omani Stn. Cdr. and though so much has changed there's a lot that hasn't. I worked ATC 72/3 and I swear it's exactly the same as when I left- right down to the dynotape labels on the equipment! I have some vid which I'll sort out and post.

  • @parabatix

I was in ATC 71/72. In touch with 8 others from that time.

  • @parabatix

There is a Masirah web site with lots of pics and comments. Give it a visit and make contact with some old buddies. This site won't let me post the url

  • Fantastic - what memories!! I was there 74-75 in the Fire Section - did the Ting a Ling show!! Someone asked about Charley - we had a local who 'cleaned' on the fire section - he was a Charley!! Flt Lt Stirzaker (RAF Regt) was our Flt Cdr - used to take us out & fire 2" para flares over the O's Mess!! Bondu bashes, barbies on the beach etc etc. I've still got the tie somewhere!!

  • Great video, was in Maz 75-76 @276 memories of The Turtle CLUB,MMG and Chocolate milk at the cinema came flooding back, Tks

  • Was here in 75 some great memories, nightly football hacking the point, the turtle club, bondoo bashes, even seen my old room

  • @scotbt

Are you Scott Beattie by any chance who I shared a room with???

    Keri Morgan

  • @kerimorgan52 Yes I am good to hear from you

  • Brilliant video that brought the memories flooding back. I worked in GRSF in the Tower, October 1971 till July 1972. I also lived in the block right next to sewer ejector NUMBER 5 - phew-what a smell!

  • @whitbyflyer

I was there Oct71 to July 72 also. I worked in Ops and Flight Watch but was atc by trade and bunked up with the tower guys. Google my name and contact me. Goes for anyone else also.

    Colin Blakelock

  • Was there in 72 in the Commcen - remember the pond, the sewage ejector was just outside!! Lived in a Twyneham for a while before graduating to a much hotter Sewell Block (no bedbugs there!!) Listened to the Doors every night at the |Naafi, had a job cleaning the cinema paid £2 but you got free entry - saved me a fortune. Came home with £400 stuffed in my boots. Highlight of the tour were the bondu bashes, sleeping under the stars - have a hankering to go back. Thanks for the great film

  • Hello,

I'm from Masirah Island, and this video is before I was born. Is it possible that you know a local man called Salim???his nickname was Charly?? or his brother tommy??

  • Hello - my friends in stores worked with a young man called Salim Ali - he spoke very good English and went to work in the station headquarters building - met him only once in 1972

  • The brill part of this vid is that is shows, not the Pool, which we spent every morning after night shift, but actually my old room, and bet it still a tip lol

  • Icepick, how are you, long time no hear mate, Yes what a place, especially the Met office, nearly all my time in the tower, sending the weather forecast to Cyprus, waist of time really, as by the time I sent it, the weather had 'Gorn' Nice too have seen you on another site mate.

  • For most of my tour I worked in the met-office behind commcen with the civvies - sorting out rafan/met messages so they could compile the hourly "weather actuals" read out over flight-watch. No cooling in there (not even a fan) and a huge window that faced into the sun all

day. Needless to say, the teleprinters used to overheat and cease to work. Memories of listening out for the Malcolm Club wagon to buy banana or chocolate flavoured milk and hard boiled egg rolls. Happy days.

  • Hi zimmer99cat, thanks for posting this great bit of film. I was at RAF Mas 72-73 - worked in Commcen. This brings back great memories of nights in the Naafi, Corporal's club, Crazy Horse, curries down the Pakistani club. "Good Old Fred" at the cinema. Sheila the antelope. Would love to hear from John Boyd (ATC) if you're out there John.

  • Hi Icepickmikey

Thanks for the post, Glad it brought back memories.

I was worked nextdoor to Commcen in 5-unit

  • @icepickmikey Wow. I was in Maz in 72. was air traffic and knew john boyd well. a name i thought i'd never hear again, lol. Worked with Les Deighton in Ops but maybe Les was gone home when you wer there yourself. Were Vic Redmond and John "Dinky" Brown in Commcen when you were there? I recently got in touch with Vic Redmond, he married a Naaffi manageress (he's do anything for a free pint) and now lives in Wales. Theres a Masirah website now under development, might be worth a check out

  • @civto1 Hi there. I know Vic from Servicepals. I don't remember Les Deighton or John Brown. They must have gone by the time I arrived. I knew Paul Lydon from Hendon when I arrived but nobody else. John Boyd was a great mate of mine in Mas. I returned to UK a month or so before his tour ended. We never swapped addresses - which I regret, 'cause I would love to get in touch with him. Another name from Ops I remember was Adrian Bevan who now lives in or near Newmarket.

  • I agree with Shug (who I worked with briefly in early '76) - this brought back some memories! I remember being desperately homesick, with Radio 65 being my lifeline to retaining what little sanity I had.

Amstel - now there's something I haven't seen in Tescos!

  • I was there in 1973 Ilived in the golden flipflop oh what memories

  • Thanks for the comment mike

  • I was also there from Nov 73 to aug 74. Worked in ground radio, so paths would likely have crossed.

Found your site, only because I was scanning slides photos taken during the 60s and 70s, and found a box from my time there. thought I'd google RAF Masirah, and eventually found this.

    Well pleased.

    Skyrunner355

  • my grandad served here between april 75 to jan 76 and would like to get in contact with some of his old friends. Chris French Chris Rennolds Roy the siggie ect if anyone can help plz :)

  • Thanks for your comment loosechange, I don't recall the names you mentioned but maybe someone out there does, let's hope so.

    Good luck

  • Wonderful stuff. I worked in SHQ in 75/76, and also on Radio 65. I have lots of photos, but seeing this is great. Only just joined YouTube. Can the clip be downloaded?

  • Thanks for your comment Shug402..the clip can be downloaded, providing you have the right capture softwear..if you have any difficulties just let me know.

  • Cheers. Any idea what software I need?

  • Hugh - I believe Realplayer allows you to download it. Cheers! Alan Jessopp

  • How brilliant to see this. I was there in 1976, working in SVP, refuelling the aircraft. The memories it brings back, wonderfull. I also had a show on Radio 65, it was called 'Highway Star', the weekly hit of 'prog rock' and various other weird stuff!!!

  • Thanks for your kind words..

I had been meaning to convert my old super8 films I took in Masirah for sometime..anyway glad I did.

    Thanks for the comment
