They told me the phone isn't for sale... its available on a 3 year lease. They said I can't buy it outright.
They also said if I buy a US 3g Iphone, they wouldn't let it on the system unless I bought a sim card from them for the same price as a phone, on a 3 year contract.
It really is criminal.
Plus I see they are charging the 'system access fee' again.
They stopped charging me for it, now they are slipping back in it seems.
Well no they aren't selling it outright of course not because then they'd have people using it on pay as you go and complaining about the data prices eating up their cards instantly (pay as you go data is 5c per kb).
The only way you can get it is on a 3 year contract, and no one in the states is selling it outright either, so it'd be pointless for you to go down there and buy one anyway unless you live there most of the time right?
no its not the exact same price. Rogers are ripping everybody off by charging people $ 584.92 for that iphone 3gwith 3 year term contract. This is so outrageous. They should go out of the business and they deserve it big time
News to me as I bought one yesterday and it costed $300 for the 6GB.. $337 after tax and I was a new activation, and my sister who is an existing account got hers at the same price.
no man i called rogers today and they are like the total costs with taxes comes to $584.92. i am not joking. That the price they gae me for 16 gb white iphone 3g.
No it came to way more than that. I added a $15 value pack so.. $30 + my $35 my5 canada-wide plan + $15 and SAF + tax it'd be like $99 a month. But you can choose any plan you want so @_@..
The first gen iphone never cam due to a legal dispute with Apple and local Canadian company over the trademark "iPhone". That is why it never came in the first release.
I've spoken to Rogers reps about this and they actually say that it was due to the fact that Rogers was unwilling to create specialized plans for the iPhone, because they knew it would upset their strong blackberry following. Also Rogers has a much stronger connection with RIM than it does Apple, so they didn't want to piss RIM off by giving Apple consumers a way better deal.
Apple looking after you!!! They offer a phone that is not even capable of sending a picture. No mms, no video capture, no stereo bluetooth or file transfer, a 2mp POS, no conference camera.. Theres more but why bother. Dont fall for the hype! Like america did. Compare its features to others and you will not believe it. No matter what you decide, good luck.
iPhone may not have an amazing camera or stereo bluetooth, but it actually can send files through email quite easily. And in Canada I don't know anyone who actually sends pictures from cell to cell because it just costs WAY too much. With iPhone you can send a picture to someone for free via email with WiFi, so it's much better in my opinion.
I wonder why iPhone sold 6 million units in its first year, as Apple's first wireless phone ever. Answer: Because it is just awesome.
its overrated. its a nice phone but it lacks so much! i guess it all depends on what you need...the camera is decent but even crappier phones have better cams
Sorry to be real the features do count. If they had improved on more of the core/non business enterprise features I would have definitely upgraded from my v.1 iPhone . I was all set too.
So true. I have one and I go to a lot of music events and even when I am a stones throw away from the stage, the photos I get are shit. There is no zoom, no flash and in the dark it's lowsy. But on the other hand photos taken during day light hours often come out superb.
man... iphone 3g finally came to canada and rogers is here to make it unaffordable for people out there..I hope apple stores will sell the iphone 3g without contract for 199 for 8gb and 300 for 16 gb
Rogers executives have refused to confirm they have an exclusive deal with Apple to carry the iPhone, meaning new entrants — a crop that potentially includes cable providers Quebecor, Eastlink and Shaw and telecommunications firm Globalive — could also offer the device when they start up, possibly as soon as early next year. They could alternatively offer deals that will allow customers who purchased iPhones from Rogers to run them on their networks.
GUYS DO NOT BUY THE IPHONE 3G...There are 3 NEW GSM companies being launched in Canada in the next 3-4 months.(which will sell much cheaper iPhone plans) Rogers and Fido want to tie you in for 3 years before this...wait guys you will all thank me!

yeahhh I posted this video the day before the plans were released officially by Rogers.
They're terrible compared to AT&T in the states, but really it's a huge improvement for Rogers. Not saying it's really good, but I'm willing to pay it since there is a lot of WiFi where I live.
sammy you are too cute, i love you.

Or maybe you aren't elidgible for a hardware upgrade discount..
My sister got hers for the regular price but she has been with Rogers for like 8 years.

Btw, I'm getting the iPhone via the 6GB for $30/month data plan. I'll skip the launch day and get one on Saturday.

I got mine and it took 2 and a half hours to activate. I had to wait in line for 4.5 hours and I was first in line.
They are going to be out of stock tomorrow 100% definitely.
Try again on Monday and Tuesday, if not Thursday and Friday.
Yes I got that plan too.
kokoroxx 3 years ago
so in the end did your plan come out to about $60/month with a voice plan and that 6GB promotion??? BTW post a video of the iphone you got.
