  • Great Katana. This was one of my favourites! Draws nice and cuts well. Keep it clean and dry and you will do fine!

  • Cuttin with the leg on the same directon of the blade?!? Dangerous and lack of technique

  • @arde91

He´s a Ninja. But after time, we are familiar now with Americans playing Ninja and cutting things, aren´t we?

  • the PK is pegged. but you cannot take it apart. I had one before.

you do not have to worry about it. the one i had is one of the old versions. but it had a iron peg which you cannot remove. so it is safe to do cutting and train with. only sad thing is. if you have to clean it. and you need to inspect the tsuka (sword handle). you simply can't.

  • It's TAPE!

  • Ur technique is shit but ur last 3 cuts were very clean ;-)

  • Can any one tell me I have been using this in a dojo and it is bloody sharp it could slice ur head off and why can't u purchase nun-chucks I don't see why u can't own them but u can own one of the most sharpest swords known to mankind ???

  • Tbh, in most of your vids, the people doing the cutting test suck. Just my 2 cents.

  • The " Ford Mod T"of katanas.

It all starts with the blade, and what you get with this very humbly adorned great cutter is some kick ass performance.

  • nice .. i was thinking of getting this.. after watching this im even more tempted :)

  • Okay, according to the comment up there ^^^, these have a single mekugi pin. Would it be possible to modify these? I'm a pretty competent woodworker, and I've always liked longer tsukas. So, if I wanted to, could I make my own tsuka, drill another hole in the tang, and make it double mekugi pegged?

  • @leonhardtz5 the reason why this only has 1 mekugi is because the nakago is glued to the tsuka. If you want a better tsuka, making one is your best route but dont drill another hole and make it double pegged as its called. If the Tsuka is made correctly, you dont really need a mekugi as its friction based. Its just there for wear and tear....for an extra protection. Mass produced Katana's have double mekugi because its mass produced and nothing fits them right.

  • The Paul Chen PK has a healthy tang, but the sword is epoxied together to cut costs by eliminating the traditional fitting and assembly methods. Nothing wrong with it unless you're a purist, in which case you wouldn't be buying it in the first place.

  • I just bought one. It's my second. Snake Fist 5th Dan

  • Don't ever put a black belt on if you haven't somehow earned it, which judging by your technique, you haven't. I don't care if you want to look cool.

  • @1465225568 he may have the black belt as you call it as an obi which is perfectly fine. Jason has never said he does such and such for an art and what not. For all you know, me may be a black belt in karate or some other martial art. Dont assume when you dont know anything on the person.

  • @KagaKiyomitsu You're right. I don't know if he holds one in another style. My bad.

  • Very cool.

  • how many pegs does t have ...is it just one ???

  • I'm thinking of getting one of these for my birthday, been eyeing it up for a while now.

  • Hater. Google Tameshigiri accidents. You see why i have a concern. Anyway who put a bug up your ass. I am not high and mighty. And yes the pressure at the habaki can be enough to snap a tang. It does not have to be a rattail either.

Do some looking before you shoot your mouth off. See you in the emergency room when your cheap shit sword is sticking out of your head. DBAG

  • These swords of might reviews are all the same..

  • I am not sure i would do cutting with a 200 dollar sword. The pressure on the Tsuka could snap the blade right of as one of the comments on the website mentioned. Does anyone know whether these are full tang blades and if they are full tang are they wide tang or are they rat tails. That could make it very dangerous. Please be careful.

  • dude seriously fail wow um no buddy s you sound new to this okay look there are fifty dollar sword that cut just fine paul chen i doubt they make a rattali tang this thing is real its full tang and i highly doubt it will snap like i said be smart do more research ( doesnt sound you like you do enough ) make sure you know what you do then go and buy a katana i woudnt spend 200$ just to cut id spend 100 $ and get a fulltang carbonstell blade that cuts well

  • ICY I was asking if anyone knew about the tang. That is doing research. $200 is pretty cheap as far as swords go. You are talking about something that will take off an arm or finger or toe.The pressure of cutting can cause a cheap tang to snap at the habaki and then your blade goes flying. are you willing to catch it I hope not. As far as your comment is concerned you are the serious fail. Learn to read and figure out what is being said before you criticize.

  • im saying why would you ask if a paul chen is a rattail

  • bcauase i dont know and for $200 that is what i would expect to get.

  • its not look it up on swords of might or some site like that its full tang has two mekugi pin and like i said you can get fifty dollar sword that is descent quality i know that 50 or 200 $ is cheap in swords but you can get a pretty nice one just the same the 1000 and up blades are made of tamahagane but if you need a sword just for practice and cutting this katana is great full tang paul chen are all real like what you want not rattail i promise :)

  • ICY> Thanks for the info. it honestly looks fun. I AM a bit if a sword snob, but many have pointed out that i would not want to use my $1000 shinken for cutting. ANd no one has to know right??? Thanks again for the info

  • yeah sure happy to help :)

  • @videoedit69

Musashi swords sell sub $50 swords that are able to cut tatame mats, stop acting high and mighty. The whole idea behind practical katana is to cut you idiot.

You act as if looking at a katana the wrong way will break it, just shut up until you know what you're talking about.

  • Thanks for taking the time to post this video. I have one of these already and it seems like a great combination of quality for the value as a beginner blade. Good enought to keep but not so expensive that you would not go on to upgrade later on.

  • hmm, I have a katana that looks exactly like these, but it can't be a Paul Chen practical katana, not sharp enough. The resemblence is earie though.

  • Have you ever removed the handle of this blade I cant remove mine!

  • you cant remove it . it is stuck this is one of the reasons its cheap :D

  • I can only say EXCELLENT REVIEW!!

  • nice video

  • i brought one of these over a year ago and it has not let me down yet....good value.

  • It's a pretty good katana. Some people can expect getting tendinitis from the weight. However, the great experience I got from it as my first katana was the workout it gave my arms, especially after switching to a lighter katana it was amazing how quick my speed was.

  • hi...if i may share something that i learned from my tameshigiri classes...when you cut diagonally, the foot that's positioned up front is your starting side. for example, if you're cutting right to left...put your right foot forward and your left foot back...this is to avoid the danger of cutting your own feet should you make a mistake. =)

  • is it really not pegged jason when i called you explained to me it was pegged hmmmm....?????true you are getting better with your technique aswell could you maybe try and take one apart and find out? maybe if it is in fact pegged at all would be greatly appreciated cuase im seriousely considirin buying this one and a kawashima 1095 aswell thanks alot

  • These are pegged with a single mekugi.

  • Looks like a good sword, I might buy one in a couple months. I'm not really looking for a hugely expensive serious one, and this is within my price range.

  • its a good sword, but only thing thats bad is the fact that its not pegged at all...i own a practical xl,that is double pegged, and i feel much safer just by nowing that.they should have done the same with the practical..and Jason, keep up the good work with the rewiews...

  • Thanks, will do!

  • Jason, I like that you are getting better with your technique. If you are going to take classes, and you do develop good skills, I would like to see them in future videos!

  • Thanks.

  • good sword. i wish you would use better swordsman for your vids. i am not that great but it is nice to see technique and kamae. it is obvious it will cut but it would be better for your vids. and i do buy mats from you and also swords too. i buy musashi and masahiro and they work good too.

  • I am showing the product, NOT ME.

  • I thought about buying one of these a while back, but I decided against it because of a few reasons. One, it has faux ray skin, not the real stuff. Two, I don't like straight hamons. Three, I like katanas that have at least a little flash to them, such as designs on the koshirae and tsuba.

But hey, Jason, I see you've gotten much better with your technique. You been practicing?

  • Not really, but I am going to start classes soon and hopefully I will improve over time :)

  • Well that certainly sounds fun.

  • Considering my teacher will be Carl Long, I think so too!

  • who the hell cares?? He's not claiming to be a sensei... He is just showing the swords abilities. And compared to the previous video this video has shown a lot of improvement.

    Great cutting Jason!

  • Thanks alot guns!

  • looks good but stilling waiting on the reverse blade one, although Ive heard Ritter steel didn't make that sword the way it should be, also heard that they made it with a rat tail instead of a full tang construction, that and its off balance. But this is what Ive hear anyways, hoping they are wrong from a video of yours soon? maybe showing if they do make it full tang? I hope so.

  • Awesome. The Practical will be the first Paul Chen I buy.
