  • Blessings Family ... I HAVE LOVED SLY FOR A LONG TIME>> ANS I STILL LOVE HIM... PLEASE ....HELP...... We Are Our Brothers Keeper...

  • And this is what drugs will do to you kids....

  • hmm! Cocaine, a helluva drug!

  • Very good video. Sly was great...sad to see what drugs have done to him...Drugs renently took Gil Scott Heron, another great artist of the same era...on a brighter note, it looks like Bobby Brown has cleaned himself up and gotten himself together; although I don't mean to suggest that BBrown belongs in the same category as Sly and GSH-no one does.

  • @10knicks12 YOU R GOD DAMN RIGHT! bobby brown can never and ever be put in the GREATNESS OF THESE 2 GODS of MUSIC and SOCIAL AwhereNeSS. how dare you. u have no clue/knowledge

  • @10knicks12 you are a IDIOT. learn your MUSIC. plus your facts!

  • He was on a lot more than coke, on Cavett. I have the full clip on my site if anyone wants to see it. He's outta his mind! lol.

  • sly lived and lives his life as he wants, not concerned about the expectations of others.

    ya'll should be so lucky.

    flash on baby !!!

  • this is easily the worst "documentary" i've ever seen. and i went to film school for what that's worth.

  • It's Sad, it just the Way it is.

  • fuck you dog.. wanna be piece shit.!!!!!!!!!

  • "Cocaine is a helluva drug" Rick James

  • EVEN THEN LISTENING TO MY OLDER BROHTER'S LP.s I THOUGHT SLY WAS THE CLASSIEST,STYLIST MUSICIAN ON THIS PLANET,WHEN YOU'RE THE BEST YOU ARE MISSED BY MANY A LIVING LEGEND QUE SERA SERA...

  • THE HOST IS DICK CABBET AND HE WAS A REAL DICK!!!!!! HE CLOWNED SLY BECAUSE HE HADNT SHOWED UP BUT THATS JUST WHAT HE WAS ABOUT HE DID THE SAME THING IN CALI YEARS AGO AND I HEARD JESSE JOHNSON HAD SOME ISSUE WHEN HE WAS DOING CRAZY WITH SLY

  • he is the epitome of the musical genius cursed with the sin of excess. Nobody can come close to his influence. Freaking amazing man and the band was no average group either!

  • A complete and true genius. He is one of the reasons I picked up a guitar in the first place...

  • good drugs. Its a Pisces thing :P Too many drugs is also that. Just please don't make a break for it again like the Santa Rosa show lol, give us some good music again!

  • most people wouldn't know this but without sly stone there would be no Grateful dead.

  • dont pick holes he is a legend

  • this is one of the fucking greats man.....damn i just wish i could find his vault....i know for a fact this mothafuckas has some baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad asss songs stashed away somewhere...what the fuck man....sly is still a bad mofo...i just hope we hear anything before the man is gone.

  • Okay Bullshit ..i am sly stones nephew you are right he was on alot of drugs cocaine heroen marijuana ect....but he never lived in a shelter thats a lie...and he never was going to get sentenced..imhighonhappy--he was on cocaine and everything my grandpa his brother freddie stone tells me all the stories and he will not be in pparis i dont know where you heard that from so i mean if you want to know things about him hit me up

  • @LilFlyBoiii ......If you're truly Sly Stones nephew, as you claim to be.........would you be so kind as to inform the citizens of YOUTUBE nation if you're aware of whether or not Sly has pieced his life together, and is capable of performing again. I truly can't speak for anyone but myself........but for the record, my concerns are: 1...Is the man well? and 2.....Does he have any intention of performing again?

  • @LilFlyBoiii nigga we dont give a fuck about his problems or the reason you feel you have to share them with us...you want tim impress us...upload some of his music his hiding from the world...we dont give a fuck about the negative side of peoples lives...we can watch any bitch ass gossip show for that type bullshit....post some music if its your uncle.....if not just shut the fuck up and stop being a dick rider before u get punched in your mothafukin mouth...you ole gossipy ass negreau.

  • @LilFlyBoiii your uncle sexy as hell tell sly i said holla

  • I think most reportage on Sly chronicles his heavy use of coke, particularly at the Bel Air house during his recording of There's A Riot Goin' On.

Among his 'party' buddies were Bobby Womack, Miles Davis, Billy Preston, Ike Turner, and Jim Ford (the redhead on Riot) who is referenced by Sly during a later portion of the Cavett interview - "you gotta go through Sunday to get to Monday". Joe Miller, did you ever cross paths with Jim Ford in LA?

  • Some great times with Slys music and vibe. I played sax in Soul bands in the 60's and we'd always cover his stuff. Larry Bell and the Soul Pack in LA, later I toured with Ike and Tina and their Cover of Sly's "Higher and Higher" would always bring down the house. We'd start the show with Buddy Miles Tune "Them Changes".. great times... Thanks for the very cool post.

    Joseph

  • Joe - did you ever cross paths with Sly's pal Jim Ford in LA?

  • I don't think that he did cocaine. Sly was as high as a kite on the Dick Cavette show, but there's no way he was on cocaine! LOL He's a musical genius and a legend. ^ _ ^

  • no way, huh?

  • Sly did cocaine, heroine and pcp. It's a shame, he was such a genius. Saw him at LAX the day before Obama's inaguration and he was going to D.C., He was in a wheelchair, it was oh so sad.

  • Dammm thats Buddy Miles Jimi Hendrix drummer on guiter...wow!

  • The hopes the dreams, the ego, the need for acceptance..Sly was everyday people.

The talent he had..was not everyday people...it's actually very rare.

Thanks for putting this up...not condoning drugs..but the Dick Cavet show piece is hilarious.

  • @SLSheehan, it's not hilarious, it's sad.

Amy Winehouse fried her brain as well. :-(

  • He's not dead yet

  • i painted the house in novato that the irs sold in probate that they took for sly for tax fraud. i found a guit pick in the horse stable.i later had a friend who knew sly personelly ,came over to that house and sly had a pile of angel dust... so yeah he got into coke he got into dust.... but the man had soul and thats all that counts.hey no ones perfect at least he had fun... i f'd up too but we move on. love his music is all i know

  • @TimFix

Where was the house in Novato?

  • cocaine's a hell of a drug

  • It seems like most of the great musician used coke. Look a SLY now. That stuff messed him up physically. But he bounce back.

  • The guy who "directed" this plagiarizes his sources with spelling and grammar mistakes, and then has the hubris to judge this genius?

It is selfish to criticize Sly for messing himself up after all the music he gave us. That's his problem, and his loss. Whoever made this has a very narrow and limited understanding of MUSIC and DRUGS. What kind of silly agenda produced this "documentary?"

  • That bass is pumpin!

  • YES!!

    :)

    i love this band.

  • "We got to live together"

  • (only 16) But lately because of the trash thats been on the radio i discovered his music and it is so sick he is so talented and influenced alot of people e.g. prince. What hes done for music as a whole is amazing I heard that he is clean and if not i knoW God will deliver him

  • i'm glad to see young people diggin' real music.happy to hear you think modern music is horrible.60's 70's were great! check out everything from the past, because modern music sucks.i'm 54 and lived through all this great music.

  • Ur lucky lol. I Would have loved to see sly at his prime perform

  • when was that footage with buddy miles shot???anybody know???

  • it was sad watching Sly's mother being interviewed talking abut her son. She said it was the drugs that destroyed Sly

  • WTH? haha, dont mind me Im only 12 so this is really dumb in my opinion!

  • dude, shut your mouth. sly is one of the best musicians ever.

  • I was a little kid when they were all the rage. In summer day camp, we went every day to swim at the pool in Bellevue Hospital (of the famous loony bin) and the lifeguards there played Sly & The Family Stone ALL DAY EVERY DAY. I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE THEM. I wish them well and look forward eagerly to Sly reclaiming his rightful top of the heap. LOVE!

  • Just by reading the comments, all well written & saying things that are true, good & right, you realize how great Sly Stone was by the fact that it's the smartest people who like him. What a difference with fans of the Spice Girls & other assorted crap of that kind!

  • This clip was very painful to watch because Sly is one of my musical heros,he brought alot of people together in a hard time. When he was on top of his game, no one was better but as the drugs took him we see the worse that comes out in all of us. It's a real lesson to us all. In the mean time I'm going to watch this clip and remember him at his best. This is a great clip.

  • This guy oozes talent. Especially compared to the crap on the radio these days. Check out all of his work. His band was great too.

  • i still got luv for Sly

  • we couldn't get much higher

  • its something about the entertainment industry, period, that destroys normal people. i dont know what it is, maybe its the pressure, but marriages dont last, people are perverts, dope addicts, homosexuals, manic depressants, etc., etc.. i'm starting to see how dave chappelle could walk away from a successful show. i'm not saying he wasn't on dope, i dont know, but i can see why.

  • Yes, everyone who gets into showbusiness becomes a manic depressed homesexual who's perverted & on drugs.... wtf?

  • This is a great video and I do believe drugs can and do ruin everything, however I must say Sly is still surrounded by family and love and is certainly not homeless or in a shelter.

  • This video is testament to the genius and tradgedy of the artistic soul. True artists are rarely simple and easy to digest. So sad but true, Van Gogh DaVinci Hendrix Pryor Bruce Drugs are the symptom not always the disease

  • I don't know about that. I think we overlook all the geniuses and talented people who are normal as far as no drug problems(Stevie Wonder,MJ,Prince,Rakim,Bill Cosby etc). Not that you said it,but you don't have to be a genius to get strung-out. Most drug addicts aren't talented artistic people. Those artist who do have drug/emotional problems may have them for the same reasons most everyday people do.

  • Whether we use drugs or not..don't we all gotta die someday-somehow? he took so much drugs and lived this long! everybody has a destination and what has to be, must be..we're not going to escape it!!!!

  • Hm. I don't think it's the cocaine that has to be solely addressed, it's the need behind it. The method of dealing with shit is cocaine, but drugs aren't really the initial root.

  • The best musician ever by a galaxy or two!!!

  • Amen..in God's hands!!! All praise to God!!

  • Listen up people. What this guys is saying about my uncle is unfortunately true. We have prayed for him to get better, but as you can see from the recent videos he has not. I am not going to elaborate, but he really does need help. It is our prayer that he gets better before he ends up dead in some sorry hotel room surrounded by people who do not care about him. His biggest problem is that he has surrounded himself with 'yes men.'

  • produced and directed? It's a friggin' PowerPoint presentation, for crying out loud!

  • oh please... leave Sly alone people. You'd think he was the only one doing drugs back in the day.

  • Man, is this guy underrated or what? What a catalog of sound.

  • sly is one of the real people out there.totally destroyed by societies like ours.BITCHEEEEZZZZZ :D

  • i totally agree with dockaiser and i dont even use drugs. never have. but it is entirely true that each individual is perceived to be neurotic by another. if no harm is done, keep on having fun!

  • Even if he was high, he was a wonderful person.

Why does everybody make such a fuzz of drugs, I mean according to Woddy Allen everyone is neurotic in his way - as long as you don't harm anyone else.

  • Sorry you were turned down to be on the Jerry Springer Show:(

  • sly stone was and is yet a musical genius. He has so much music that hasn't even been relased yet. I'm sure when he is gone they will release it. He brought different nationalities together by having an integrated group in the sixties!

  • Poor Sly, drugs have made him look like a drunken homeless man on stage; sad.

  • Wow. I always thought the "Dancing Lady" was Madonna...

  • Cocaine hell of a drug.

  • This bullshit easy editing sucks. Sly rocks and that's all we funk listeners need to know. Anyway i'll see him next monday at the Olympia, Paris, and for sure it won't be a crack sucker revival...

  • I use to live in Paris in the late 80s. If Sly does not show up, maybe he's trying to get some rock, so rock heads like you will have something to bitch about!

  • what's your problem? Sly is a MUSICIAN. Let's talk about music and the guy live his life.... You're a piece of shit bored with your sad existence.

  • @dorton39 Hay Mr perfect why don't you just fix all the problem's in the world

  • because of this video i don't like sly no more...

    what have you done mac???

  • In my youth, Sly and Larry Graham were HUGE influences on my life. I was crushed to see what happened to him, and even watching this footage now, makes me profoundly sad. I am hopeful, even as I see a resurgence now, that the Osteo-bent, blond mohawked, little old man still has some of the world-changing insight and brilliance left.

  • damn, that's some disturbing footage right there

  • You're thinking is simplistic and cheap.

  • Hi Mac,

You have no FCK clue what you are talking about.

    Your mind is sick!
