Bruckner 8th Adagio...von Karajan...Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra...St. Florian Cathedral...superb camera and sound crew: It's not the Beatific Vision... but it is close.
Agreed! To put that passage between the first intro of the subject at 5:22 and its eventual climax at 7:15 was Bruckner at his finest inspiration.
He was the greatest writer of symphonic adagios I believe...inspired by Beethoven's 9th but almost perfected by himself. From Syms 0-9 the adagios are the very kernels of each work.
With the VPO and the acoustic of St Florian this performance is a real gem - thanks!
Este adágio é simplesmente uma das obras-primas do conjunto da obra magnífica de Bruckner.

That was the great Roland Berger. I was lucky enough to be there during this live performance and it still sends shivers up my spine.

If there were more minds like us, the world would be a much better place. unfortunately, we are too few and far in between.

"A walk with God" Bruckner used to say about this Adagio. I like to imagine he's actually walking with Him right now...

' "A walk with God" Bruckner used to say ' - did he indeed - how very modest of him!

No, he never realized because he died before concluding the ninth.
Perhaps he realized that he has composed the second best symphony ever: the eighth.

the old simple country bumpkin Bruckner probably never realized that he wrote the greatest symphony ever.

The pathos of Bruckner feels quite relative to the orchestral elements of Wagner.

That Wagner tuba solo is freakin epic! 6:15 is awesomeness.

4:32 bis 5:14 ist so unfassbar bewegend... Für mich eine der ergreifendsten Stellen, die je komponiert wurden.
