the''Jumbo bajo'' has a bit larger body. It has a bigger and more improved tone and sound. I dezigned it to be played unplugged but after the first one was built we found that it just sounded bigger and better overall. Not to say that the standard bajo we build does not sound great, because it does sound great, but the jumbo just takes it to higher level.
no. if you tune it any other way, someone will come find you and smash your bajo and punch you in the face and un-tie your shoes. do not attempt to be an individual under any circumstance
this bajo is a jumbo bajosexto it has inlay around the sound hole and on the edge of the body the inlay is paua shell. A standard jumbo bajosexto is $2700 and the inlay on this bajo was $440 the total for this bajo $3140 This bajo turned out very well in appearance and sound, when finished there was a modest pick guard placed at the sound hole, the size of this instrument really brings out the low full tone of the bajosexto instrument. This bajo has a real nice classic bajo look and full sound.
I will post it at the forum soon. I finally brought the head plates home and will be sending them soon. They are booked matched and glued. One is thickness sanded and one is not, I am sending 2 we have a bunch of this stuff here.
At the time that I filmed this the bajo had been just strung up for the first time after construction. My Dad Layo Jimenez had just finished tuning it for the first time and he played it a bit before he told me to play it. I am still learning to play the bajo. I think I can say that I build them better than I play them.
what does it mean by jumbo" bajosexto
