@meheh Well you are beyond good. Thanks for the replies. Trying to figure if I want to sell my HV30 and go to Flash Medium. If you ever have a class on the art of videography it would be very cool indeed.
Wow. How are there so few views to these videos? The imagery to these videos and the story the tell are absolutely awesome in every sense of the word! Good Job!
no shit man . . . on the subject of videography as an art-form, YOU are the guy!!!! So you challenge me dude. Truthfully, you inspire me, and this is my absolute FAVORITE. Thanks for commenting on my little vid. And just know what I just said is true my friend. Keep watching.
Uow!!! Amazing!!! You're really love your camera... and I can say you almost get to sleep with it, in the good meaning! Am I wrong?
I also like videos, but since I prefer taking pictures, I still haven't bot a video recorder. However, what do you think is possible to do with the HD videos from a Nikon D90? Do you recommend anything else?
PS: I have some time lapses I'd like to share in the future...
I liked the fact that instead of omitting it (like most earth videos) you included footage of the 'concrete jungle' where we could see glimpses of what man has made with his superior intellect
the variety (all those different animals and landscapes) coupled with the exceptional clips were a winning recipe for one phenomenal video
so can you get the blurry forground/background with just the camera or do things need to be done with some sort of software? the shot at 0:33 is that with just this camera?
oops, I meant the blurryness (the focus in on something and blur out other stuff) at about 2:06 it's focusing in on the ant and the background is blurred
Hi, sorry if this is obvious but I just need to ask... you shot all this on a canon HV30? Is it 'out of the box' or do you have a DOF adapter. either way, I'm amazed! although not a videographer (yet), I had no idea this kind of image could be attained in such a camera... Your skill is amazing. Thank you for such a great film. makes me wanna get out there
nah, it wasn't, but I chose to get a full package for 729 with a bunch of extras though +free shipping.
Telephoto lens, Wide-angle lens, 2GB SD card, HDMI Cable, 1 table top tripod, 1 full size tripod, A few filters, Extra battery, And a few other things.
I almost got that same deal, but I chose not to because of the battery. Watch out for the battery with the deal you're getting. The ones in that package are known to explode and catch on fire if tey are charging on the camera itself. Only charge the extra battery on a wall charger or it may ruin your camera. Just letting you know.
Just be careful with it, though. hehe. You don't want fireballs of battery acid flying through your home, hehe. Do you already have it? When you get it just double check.
wow, and i thought i was going to buy a dvx. totally changed my mind. do u have a 35mm adapter on this? also, did u use magic bullet for color correction?
Please please mehmeh, would you share a tip on how you color your videos?
Do you just use the color corrections on premiere or finalcut or do you use plugins like magicbullet?
I have been watching your work here and on vimeo and its the most refreshing, inpiring, soulful, creative, beautiful, dreamy, arty that i have seen for long and I cant believe your not a pro making a living out of your talent. Keep going on working and sharing your gift with others. thanks for sharing...
On coloring I just use the basic coloring from Sony Vegas. I haven't used Magic Bullet yet, but I'd like to try it out. Thank you for the really nice comment! I appreciate the kind words!
Oh thats realy cool to know that you've used the basic coloration on a general software, it means you dont need any fancy magic bullet. I guess the magic b. does the job for you wile you have the feeling and eye to do it yourself.
really great video!!! I think the shot of all the birds at 1:46 was my fav. This makes me want to get myself a good camera. I have always wanted to get into photography, I would love to be able to show people the beauty I see in things like that.
Thank you! The only thing I can say is practice EVERY single day. Never let your camera or editing program colect dust. That's the best way to learn. Experiment as much as possible.
Yeah, about 4 hours of footage. There was a lot more footage I really wanted to use, but the video was already over 7 minutes, haha. All of it was shot by me last fall. Thank you for the comment! :)
Nice shots, the only thing I didn't like were all of the constant abrupt sounds when you change the shot. I like that technique, I just found it was happening so often that it became rather annoying. It gives a cool effect, just maybe incorporate it less often? Nice color correction.
What do you do then? I have noticed that most of your shots do look similar, do you use either colour correct each shot seperatly, colour correct the entire thing after editing or have a preset colour correction? I am asking just out of pure curiosity.
It's not intentional. It just happens. When I make a dramatic film they sometimes come out darker then I thought. In the end, I really like the way they come out. But, I don't think this video is dark, though.

A lot of people don't click on the HD button on youtube, so they think it looks ugly, you know? But yeah, youtube's HD quality is a bit nicer. That's cool you downloaded them. I take it you liked it? Thanks again.
Also, I'm wondering what the reason is you've downloaded the video. And how did you download the vimeo version because it's set so that people can't download it.
how do you have enough time to travel so much and shoot so much material?

I'm not sure what blurriness you mean at 0:33 All of the depth of field was done in the naked camera. No editing or anything like that. :)
meheh 2 years ago
oops, I meant the blurryness (the focus in on something and blur out other stuff) at about 2:06 it's focusing in on the ant and the background is blurred
also, the glow at about :36 etc

If you use your manual focus and zoom it'll get good depth of field.
for the glow, it's done in post. :)
I hope this helps.

Not at all actually.

I edit each individual shot separately.

Hmm.. theres just something very dark about your videos
CryingWindmillFP 2 years ago
Yes, they're pretty dark.
meheh 2 years ago
A very eery atmosphere... Do you choose to make it like that or is it all accidental? (which its probably not).
And why do you like it that way? :P
CryingWindmillFP 2 years ago
It's not intentional. It just happens. When I make a dramatic film they sometimes come out darker then I thought. In the end, I really like the way they come out. But, I don't think this video is dark, though.
meheh 2 years ago
Absolutely amazing.

Two questions:
What filters did you apply in Vegas?
What frame rate did you use (60i, 30p, or 24p)?
I love it!
hairyupsguy 2 years ago
To me that looks like 24p. Could be 30, though, because of YouTube's look after compressing.
I'm getting this camera soon. Gotta get rid of my HDR-SR10.
