Glad to see this video, especially the tip about twisting clockwise! I'll be that's why some of my locs don't hang straight. Should I retwist my locs clockwise next time to make it work? I have naturally wavy hair, too, so I appreciated the tip about pulling the hair into a holder to pull the roots straight. Thank you so much.
I talked to my "loctician" about this method, and she advised against it because she said it eventually weakens your roots. Before I even found this video, I'd been retwisting my hair this way, but found that they were getting weaker, so now I do mine with clips. But using the clips for me still doesn't have the same neatness that using this method did. :-\
@uniquebrowniegirl well, i'm not a professional hairstylist. i only make videos based on my own personal knowledge. i've had locs for 8 years and have used this method for about 3 years and haven't had any issues with thinning of my roots. you have to do what's best for you. and that might not necessarily be my method.
I have the same hair line and I can't stand it. I usually gel it down before bed and tie it down with a wrap. By morning it is nice and flat. The downfall is that once you sweat it all comes right back out. So what's the point, right?
I did your method and it worked great :-) I still used a few clips to hold down my locs in place, I didnt use pony tail holders because my hair isnt that long yet! Thanks for sharing
Hi! Just seeing this video for the first time; I'm definitely going to give this a try next time I wash. One thing though: my locs are *just* long enough for a high ponytail, which would be kind of uncomfortable to sleep with. Is there another way to secure them to dry without clips?
Great video, sister! I got a better idea of how to better me and my husbands locs. I have a question: In your method, you don't blow dry your hair at all! I like this, but I heard that you have to blow dry in order for them not to smell funky or moldy. Is that true? Oh yeah, my locs are way longer than my pic now, but thinning :( Thanks.
@VISIONSbyLauren I always make sure to wring my hair out and then towel dry first so that my hair isn't sopping wet before I start twisting. if you do that then overnight should be fine. i've done this method for over 2 years and have never had an issue with my hair smelling.
@chescalocs Thanks so much for responding and thanks for posting such great information about your loc-u-cation! LOL Look forward to your new videos! Peace and Guidance to you always sister.
I have just discovered your videos and am very impressed with the quality and info. Thank you for this! I have had my locs for 3.5 years (started from 2 strand twists) and they are mid shoulder length. I have a quick question. I have been using the latch hook method to do my own hair but would like to switch to just twisting without clips. Is this possible or would that interfere with the lock pattern. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
@sole4dance thanks and welcome! you'll most likely notice a difference in thickness if you begin retwisting as latch hooking tends to result in a thinner loc. my advice would be to palm roll your locs, giving special attention to the point between the two methods to help smooth out the loc and make the texture more uniform.
Hi Chesca. What would you suggest for a Caucasian wanting to start dreads? What is the best technique, I mean? Did you use any products for your dreads?
@MakeupByPanda heey! I'd suggest you check out one of my favorite hair forums on Livejournal "Get Up Dread Up". they have an awesome memories section that covers lots of questions and tips regarding locs for Caucasian hair. because your texture is so different from African American hair, backcombing is the most commonly used method. beyond that, I can't be of much help since I'm not a professional stylist and only can speak from my own experience. Best of luck!
I love watching your videos. I appreciate how you include how much time a each technique should take that helps out a lot. Some people who do tutorials forget that most of the people watching need to know the very basics as well as the result of style, method etc. Keep up the amazing work and I'll keep watching :)
@smuccilicious thank you!! tutorial videos are challenging because you really have to plan ahead and think about what your audience is going to ask before they ask it which is no easy feat. i've been doing this for a few years now so i've learned a lot through trial and error and just watching other people. i'm glad that you're enjoying the videos and learning something as well. thanks again!
Your locs are beautiful. I am in the process of starting all over again. I'm trying to decide should I 2 strand twist as I did before or try the braid locing. May I ask what method did you start out initially. Also do you have any videos of your early beginnings. Maintenance & products? I am so impressed with your locs.
@adamsbell1950 thank you! my happy birthday hair video (the first 4 years) shows some photos of my hair at shorter lengths, but i started making videos in year 4, so i don't have any video before that time. as for products at that time i used Jamaican Mango and Lime loc and twist gel along with their shampoo. Now I don't wash with shampoo, only organic root stimulator conditioner and no longer twist with product.
nice locs chesca..im tryng to grow locs but my hair is like nappy/very curly, and it takes a long time for my hair to loc besides patience do you have any tips?
@robutta100 ummmm nappy/curly hair is exactly what you need to cultivate locs lol it can take anywhere from 6 months to a year for hair to be fully loc'd root to tip. if you hair was fine and very straight it would take even longer. aside from getting extensions, there's no way to speed up the process. patience is the key ingredient!
This method shaved a solid 2 hours off of my maintenance time. 4.5 hours is surprisingly fast for me and my 250+ Locs with a little practice I may be able to get down to 3 hours. Thank you.
Thank you so much!!! I had to stop, wash and re twist using your method took 1 1/2 hours which is great for me...this is so fast and easy, i may never go back to the salon...lol thanks again
Your hair looks amazing. I've had my hair locked for about 6 years now and I've NEVER once got my whole head done in 40 mins LOL. I usually interlock mine tho because just twisting lasts like a day with my hair. For the strays and baby hairs try tucking them into the center of the loc as much as possible before you twist it rather than just wrapping them around.
I tried this technique on about 2 inch hair and it did alright (ran out of clips). When they get longer- will def apply this method cos its hassle free. cheers chescalocs x
@tmac625 this is a funny question considering i just got out of the shower in this video :) yes, you should only twist your hair when it's wet because twisting dry hair can lead to breakage.
@tmac625 Not completely wet though. You wanna towel dry as much as possible first so that you don't have to walk around with wet hair after it's twisted (if you don't use a dryer). I usually add my moisturiser after towel drying too.
you have one of the best locks i have ever seen! i just started dreads but i cant get them to go straight down... they curl a little :( but it takes time i guess sinds it was just finished a week a go (finnaly no more wax) ps: you are also verry pritty
Hi chesca! I just did my first retwist myself last night with my loc extensions and I'm wondering is there a problem with curly roots? watching this again I realize that perhaps i twisted too tightly bc a few locs are curly at the root. is this horribly bad or will they just grow out?
@laruejoubert you just missed a step! 7:01, after you've twisted your hair, you need to put it into a tight ponytail, or multiple ponytails, depending on your hair length and then pull your locs straight to straighten out the roots. I put an annotation to remind people, but this is a step people continue to miss :P maybe because they fast forward the video? not sure. hope that helps!
I love your dreads. I just started. I'm a month in and I'm kinda not happy with my dreads. First, I don't think I have enough twist to achieve what yours look like. :( also my dreads are super frizzy ugh. And I just don't know how to maintain. Lol help. How do I make them as neat as yours. How long does it take them to loc. I call you the guru. Lol
what part of new york do you live in because where i live theres bairly any black ppl so i have to drive all the way to albany to get mine done and i cant find licking gel.....they only have creme wax
@25storm25 it really depends. not to mention, everyone's hair is different. i've stopped using product on my hair so it doesn't last as long as it used to. i also workout 3-5 days a week, so my freshly twisted hair usually about a week and then i try to retwist every other week. but for some people it will last longer.
Hey! I saw this about 3 weeks ago and recently maintenance my hair. I tried this and it helped A LOT!!! I have a mix between sister locs and traditional locs. This means they are small, thick and a lot of hair!! this help a heck of a lot thanks for the tip. I know you said something about lint. I used black soap shampoo and conditior by genuine africian. It is black which helps the lint kinda of blend in....lol. Well hope that help. :)
Wow...your locs are amazingly beautiful!!! I wished mine looked as "uniformed" as yours! I've been growing my locs for 2 years & 10 months (LOL) and they are past my shoulders now. Thanks for the tip as I'll give this method a try (it looks quick & easy)! I have "baby" hair as well and I just braid it up and tuck it in so it won't be sticking straight out!
@Tamra44 thanks! you can always palm roll your locs to help smooth them out if they aren't as uniform as you'd like. also, remember that everyone's hair is different and that no 2 heads of hair will look alike
@chescalocs I Jusss started My Dreadss Maybe 4 months Ago andd at first i wass twisting My hair, Now I started interlocking and now i dont like how it look Is It anYy way I couldd Go Back To twist Like "Comb twistt" Andd Not seeing dhaa effect Of dhaa part dhat was Interlocked. I really Need Ur Help So Plz Replyy.
Hello Chescalocs I'm learning how to twist locks so that I can maintain my boyfriends dreads, while away at college he only knows 1 person that can do his hair w/out clips and have it stay twisted at the roots for more then one week with his activity. Do you think this method will hold long enough to lock??
@keys5389z everyone's hair is different. i also don't know how mature his locs are. the thing is, when you retwist your hair, it's going to come undone at some point. the goal isn't for your hair to stay twisted forever. you're basically training your hair to grow in a pattern that will eventually create locs. so regular maintenance is needed to teach your hair how to retwist and eventually become locs. overtime, they'll stay twisted longer. ps. he should twist them himself!
NEW LOCS PT2 This is the reason some people tend to have their locs start of one size and then they tend to get thicker, cause they are just adding in the hair to ANOTHER loc instead of starting a fresh one xx
Hi chescalocs i noticed on your video that you had some what you called babyhair in the front, i get these every two 2 three months n' have been told that these are "NEW LOCS" I asked where they came from as i am not missing any hair from my other locs.... it is a process that i do often - it's a pain as it reminds me of the beginning to my journey (untrained hair with no direction) but it is what it is..........;-)
I don't know a lot about locs, and watching u twist ur new growth left me sceptical: does it really works, when u get up in the morning, does ur twists stay that way and eventually loc? how much time does it take, a week?
@logikgirl12 lol you're skeptical? i've had locs for 7 years and have used this method for 3, so yes. it works. basically, twisting your hair into a tight spiral does the job of holding your hair in place, the same way a clip would but is more comfortable. twisting your roots is one of a few ways to maintain locs. it trains your hair to grow in a spiral pattern which eventually locs. i retwist every 2-3 wks and depending on growth it takes about a month for my roots to loc
@chescalocs Thanks for the vid, very informative ! Question : I had my locs for a year now, is there a specific shampoo that you must use for locs, or can you use any shampoo ?
Your amazing beauty has been distracting me and i hafta to watch the video ova and ova to get what your saying >,< WHY ARE YOUR EYES SO DAM PRETTY!!!???
Chesca, I don't know where you live, but they sell Jamaican Mango and Lime products at the Target in Brooklyn now, if you wanted to go back to the product!
so what do you use to wash your hair. you've probably mentioned before but you have a lot of videos and my laziness wont allow me to look through all of them :) thanks
Thanks for posting this video! I like that method of twisting at the root. My friend used it on me and they stayed in surprisingly. I'm going to try that the next time I do my hair
I never used clips until recently when doing my own maintenance (the few times I've went to the salon they always do) I'm glad to see that you are showing people how to do it without clips ( I now use them only in spots that I've had breakage and are really really short) I feel that they pull at my hair which I don't like so thanks for sharing with everyone
Very good tutorial.... mii new bf wants me 2 retwist his hair i never tried so ill try dis waii.... thanx 4 postin this im sure he would appreciate the comfort n less time of not using clips
Thank u so much for the tutorial! I have had three years of uncomfortable nights sleep because of those clips, I'm sure my next touch up will be more comfortable.
@KylesNaturalHair i tried interlocking my hair when i first started my locs and i found that it made my locs a lot thinner and i didn't like the bumpy texture. that's not to say there's anything wrong with interlocking, it just isn't for me. it's important to find a routine that you like and stick with it to avoid weakening your locs or changing their texture.
@chescalocs theres plenty wrong with interlockig its 1 of the worse things you can do to dreads..but twisting the hell out of thems not too smart either
@iriesoaringeagle Whats wrong with interlocking for one and two whats interlocking? My initial question to you would be what if youhave ALOT of locks and not just large ones? All my friends with locks have larger locks which I evny I would rather have less and large rather than having like twoo hundred locks at a moderate size
@IzzytheApocalypse everyone's hair and head is different. so it's not the best idea to compare your hair to anyone else's because no two people are identical. if your locs are small, you can always combine them to make them thicker, which will also cut down on how many locs you have. interlocking is when you loop your hair through the roots to tighten them instead of just twisting. it's kind of hard to explain. i'd suggest doing a search on YT to find videos of how it's done
@chescalocs The same day that I wrote that message is the same hour to say the least is when I found this one woman interlocking he locks but i used your method and it cut down about three hours it usually takes me around 9-12 hours just to do my hair neatly and precise even post haste and it still takes that long but you method took only 6 hours. Thank YOU
@IzzytheApocalypse glad to know i cut down on your time but 6 hours is still a really long time. how long is your hair? it only takes me 45 minutes tops, unless i'm doing pipe cleaner curls which usually takes around 90 minutes
@chescaleigh My hair is a little below my shoulders but like I might have mentioned but in a subtle manner I have aloooot people tell me that everytime the discussion on getting my hair done by someone els they say " Oh ms. whootie woot woot would charge you extra cause she will be like its too much locks". So thats why three years ago (Or day one) Iv'e been doing my own locks
@IzzytheApocalypse i understand why you've chosen to do your own hair (i do my own hair for the same reason) but i'm still not understanding why it takes up to 6 hours. is this one sitting? do you do one part and then another later? that seems like an awful long time to retwist your hair.
@chescalocs Yes this is all in one sitting, I mean at the most i'll take a ten minute break to rest my feet, but I know that if I choose to sit there a second longer it will only prolong things you know. I used to twist alllll the way down the loc but I understood that it's not really mandatory/needed/necessary to do so. So I just started to only do thr newgrowth, but i still doo all of the oc because I use the palmrolling technique so that all of it recieves loving, lol to say the least
@IzzytheApocalypse interlocking makes them weak and more likely to break it causes them to stop dreading right u replace the natueral dreading that needs a lil loose space at the roots to move with interlocks that are 30% weaker and it pulls on the scalp causing traction alopecia permenant balding if u want thicker dreads let siome combine or congo i had 200 im down to 50
@iriesoaringeagle like i've said a million times before, what works for some doesn't work for others. i know people who have no problem interlocking their hair but the method isn't for me. i'm not a professional hair stylist so i don't think i'm in a position to say one is definitely better or worse than another. but thanks for sharing your knowledge/experience
@iriesoaringeagle i'm not sure if that's completely true. i know plenty of people that interlock their hair and don't have any problems. i think the point is not to overdo it, no matter what method you choose.
@chescalocs 1 use makes that point 30% weaker now a 1 inch dread should support 1000 pounds so 30% weakers still strong (thinner dreads tho become very weak) but opikle 1 on top of another and u can be 90% weaker yeau shouldnt over do it but why do it at all if it does nothing good only harm?
@KylesNaturalHair noo it weakens them breaks them and removes the space at the roots needed to dread right u replace dreading with sweak points that are too tight and can even damage the scalp permenantly
Oh thats cool, i've been doing my hair for the past 2years and I found out that you tend to get better results when you do them yourself. Is that the same with you?
@Thegreattmoney I honestly wouldn't know because I've never had my hair done by anyone other than myself! It's just a matter of what works best for everyone. Personally, I don't like the idea of paying someone to do something I can do myself, but that's not the case for everyone
@Thegreattmoney thanks! I've done my own hair for the past 7 years. I've never had it professionally done. Check out my happy birthday hair video for my loc timeline :)
@MzQuiik you need to be able to put your hair into a ponytail for this method to be effective. or you can do multiple ponytails if your hair is too short for just one.
@ElWiiTard also, what product you use on your hair is really up to you depending on your preference. in this video i'm using organic root stimulator loc and twist gel, but i've since stopped using product in my hair to prevent build up. you just have to find what works best for your routine.
@ElWiiTard i've only done this in the past few years, so i'm not sure how well it would work with short locs. part of the process is being able to put your hair into a pony tail in order to keep the roots tight so if your hair isn't long enough for that, this might not be the method for you at this time.
i have a small suggestion for you regarding you edges/baby hair. I use a Jam or edge control you can get them at walmart or sallys they work great edge control is for really stubborn baby hair mines not that bad so i use jam and sometimes edge control as needed hope it helps!
im not sure if anyone told u before, but if u twist up the baby hair by itself and then stick it THROUGH the loc closest to it, it will stay in place for longer, and maybe eventually loc. i too have a messed up hair line lol. since ive been locking my hair the edges have grown more. hopefully when my hair gets longer i can use clips. i freaking HATE them, but your method doesnt quite work for me yet.

U make it look really easy but I am a guy and have no hand skills with hair. I've tried doing this and it never comes out right. Any suggestions for me?
Very Interesting. I may try it out. I believe what I like about the clips is that it keeps the hair in place well. I have such "soft" hair. Its not thick and full nor coarse at the root. So I'm wondering if this would work for me. But again it is very interesting.
@swright1104 i've had locs for 7 years now, so i have a lot of practice retwisting my hair and don't need to see the back. i usually part my hair and then go row by row from left to right
I love watching your videos because they're so informative! I'm still learning even though I haven't done my own hair (I still let someone else do it, haven't got the nerve to do mine yet). My locitian, she uses Organic Root Stimulator gel & Jamaican Mango & Lime on my hair. Which I love both of their products. Thanks for all your info.
@BiggJern i'd say no more than every 2 weeks. any more than that can lead to breakage and thinning locs. i try to do my hair every 2 or 3 weeks. it just depends on how i'm feeling. but it's really up to you. but everyone's hair and routine is different. you just have to find what works best for you.
I want my dread's like yours but im from mexico i got my dreads like 2 mouths but with the crochete hook and they are not that measy but i would like to have tem like yours any advice? :) thanks.

@MsNirual you can twist in whatever direction you want. the point is to always twist the same way so that your locs don't become thinner.

So do you twist your locs while they are wet?
tmac625 6 months ago
@tmac625 this is a funny question considering i just got out of the shower in this video :) yes, you should only twist your hair when it's wet because twisting dry hair can lead to breakage.
chescaleigh 6 months ago
@tmac625 Not completely wet though. You wanna towel dry as much as possible first so that you don't have to walk around with wet hair after it's twisted (if you don't use a dryer). I usually add my moisturiser after towel drying too.

yesi003 6 months ago
Hi chesca! I just did my first retwist myself last night with my loc extensions and I'm wondering is there a problem with curly roots? watching this again I realize that perhaps i twisted too tightly bc a few locs are curly at the root. is this horribly bad or will they just grow out?
laruejoubert 6 months ago
@laruejoubert you just missed a step! 7:01, after you've twisted your hair, you need to put it into a tight ponytail, or multiple ponytails, depending on your hair length and then pull your locs straight to straighten out the roots. I put an annotation to remind people, but this is a step people continue to miss :P maybe because they fast forward the video? not sure. hope that helps!

How long do your hair last using this product?
25storm25 7 months ago
@25storm25 it really depends. not to mention, everyone's hair is different. i've stopped using product on my hair so it doesn't last as long as it used to. i also workout 3-5 days a week, so my freshly twisted hair usually about a week and then i try to retwist every other week. but for some people it will last longer.
chescalocs 7 months ago

Tamra44 7 months ago
@Tamra44 thanks! you can always palm roll your locs to help smooth them out if they aren't as uniform as you'd like. also, remember that everyone's hair is different and that no 2 heads of hair will look alike

Hello Chescalocs I'm learning how to twist locks so that I can maintain my boyfriends dreads, while away at college he only knows 1 person that can do his hair w/out clips and have it stay twisted at the roots for more then one week with his activity. Do you think this method will hold long enough to lock??
keys5389z 8 months ago
@keys5389z everyone's hair is different. i also don't know how mature his locs are. the thing is, when you retwist your hair, it's going to come undone at some point. the goal isn't for your hair to stay twisted forever. you're basically training your hair to grow in a pattern that will eventually create locs. so regular maintenance is needed to teach your hair how to retwist and eventually become locs. overtime, they'll stay twisted longer. ps. he should twist them himself!
chescaleigh 8 months ago
NEW LOCS PT2 This is the reason some people tend to have their locs start of one size and then they tend to get thicker, cause they are just adding in the hair to ANOTHER loc instead of starting a fresh one xx
kim66hot 8 months ago
Hi chescalocs i noticed on your video that you had some what you called babyhair in the front, i get these every two 2 three months n' have been told that these are "NEW LOCS" I asked where they came from as i am not missing any hair from my other locs.... it is a process that i do often - it's a pain as it reminds me of the beginning to my journey (untrained hair with no direction) but it is what it is..........;-)
kim66hot 8 months ago
I don't know a lot about locs, and watching u twist ur new growth left me sceptical: does it really works, when u get up in the morning, does ur twists stay that way and eventually loc? how much time does it take, a week?
logikgirl12 8 months ago
@logikgirl12 lol you're skeptical? i've had locs for 7 years and have used this method for 3, so yes. it works. basically, twisting your hair into a tight spiral does the job of holding your hair in place, the same way a clip would but is more comfortable. twisting your roots is one of a few ways to maintain locs. it trains your hair to grow in a spiral pattern which eventually locs. i retwist every 2-3 wks and depending on growth it takes about a month for my roots to loc
chescalocs 8 months ago
@chescalocs Thanks for the vid, very informative ! Question : I had my locs for a year now, is there a specific shampoo that you must use for locs, or can you use any shampoo ?

I never used clips until recently when doing my own maintenance (the few times I've went to the salon they always do) I'm glad to see that you are showing people how to do it without clips ( I now use them only in spots that I've had breakage and are really really short) I feel that they pull at my hair which I don't like so thanks for sharing with everyone

would u ever consider interlocking? If not y?
KylesNaturalHair 9 months ago
@KylesNaturalHair i tried interlocking my hair when i first started my locs and i found that it made my locs a lot thinner and i didn't like the bumpy texture. that's not to say there's anything wrong with interlocking, it just isn't for me. it's important to find a routine that you like and stick with it to avoid weakening your locs or changing their texture.
chescalocs 9 months ago
@chescalocs theres plenty wrong with interlockig its 1 of the worse things you can do to dreads..but twisting the hell out of thems not too smart either
iriesoaringeagle 9 months ago
@iriesoaringeagle Whats wrong with interlocking for one and two whats interlocking? My initial question to you would be what if youhave ALOT of locks and not just large ones? All my friends with locks have larger locks which I evny I would rather have less and large rather than having like twoo hundred locks at a moderate size
IzzytheApocalypse 9 months ago in playlist WOOOOW
@IzzytheApocalypse everyone's hair and head is different. so it's not the best idea to compare your hair to anyone else's because no two people are identical. if your locs are small, you can always combine them to make them thicker, which will also cut down on how many locs you have. interlocking is when you loop your hair through the roots to tighten them instead of just twisting. it's kind of hard to explain. i'd suggest doing a search on YT to find videos of how it's done
chescalocs 9 months ago
@chescalocs The same day that I wrote that message is the same hour to say the least is when I found this one woman interlocking he locks but i used your method and it cut down about three hours it usually takes me around 9-12 hours just to do my hair neatly and precise even post haste and it still takes that long but you method took only 6 hours. Thank YOU
IzzytheApocalypse 9 months ago
@IzzytheApocalypse glad to know i cut down on your time but 6 hours is still a really long time. how long is your hair? it only takes me 45 minutes tops, unless i'm doing pipe cleaner curls which usually takes around 90 minutes
chescaleigh 9 months ago
@chescaleigh My hair is a little below my shoulders but like I might have mentioned but in a subtle manner I have aloooot people tell me that everytime the discussion on getting my hair done by someone els they say " Oh ms. whootie woot woot would charge you extra cause she will be like its too much locks". So thats why three years ago (Or day one) Iv'e been doing my own locks
IzzytheApocalypse 9 months ago
@IzzytheApocalypse i understand why you've chosen to do your own hair (i do my own hair for the same reason) but i'm still not understanding why it takes up to 6 hours. is this one sitting? do you do one part and then another later? that seems like an awful long time to retwist your hair.
chescalocs 9 months ago
@chescalocs Yes this is all in one sitting, I mean at the most i'll take a ten minute break to rest my feet, but I know that if I choose to sit there a second longer it will only prolong things you know. I used to twist alllll the way down the loc but I understood that it's not really mandatory/needed/necessary to do so. So I just started to only do thr newgrowth, but i still doo all of the oc because I use the palmrolling technique so that all of it recieves loving, lol to say the least
IzzytheApocalypse 9 months ago
@IzzytheApocalypse interlocking makes them weak and more likely to break it causes them to stop dreading right u replace the natueral dreading that needs a lil loose space at the roots to move with interlocks that are 30% weaker and it pulls on the scalp causing traction alopecia permenant balding if u want thicker dreads let siome combine or congo i had 200 im down to 50
iriesoaringeagle 9 months ago
@iriesoaringeagle like i've said a million times before, what works for some doesn't work for others. i know people who have no problem interlocking their hair but the method isn't for me. i'm not a professional hair stylist so i don't think i'm in a position to say one is definitely better or worse than another. but thanks for sharing your knowledge/experience
chescaleigh 9 months ago
@iriesoaringeagle i'm not sure if that's completely true. i know plenty of people that interlock their hair and don't have any problems. i think the point is not to overdo it, no matter what method you choose.
chescalocs 9 months ago
@chescalocs 1 use makes that point 30% weaker now a 1 inch dread should support 1000 pounds so 30% weakers still strong (thinner dreads tho become very weak) but opikle 1 on top of another and u can be 90% weaker yeau shouldnt over do it but why do it at all if it does nothing good only harm?
iriesoaringeagle 9 months ago
@KylesNaturalHair noo it weakens them breaks them and removes the space at the roots needed to dread right u replace dreading with sweak points that are too tight and can even damage the scalp permenantly
iriesoaringeagle 9 months ago
Oh thats cool, i've been doing my hair for the past 2years and I found out that you tend to get better results when you do them yourself. Is that the same with you?
Thegreattmoney 9 months ago
@Thegreattmoney I honestly wouldn't know because I've never had my hair done by anyone other than myself! It's just a matter of what works best for everyone. Personally, I don't like the idea of paying someone to do something I can do myself, but that's not the case for everyone

@MzQuiik you need to be able to put your hair into a ponytail for this method to be effective. or you can do multiple ponytails if your hair is too short for just one.

RainKrewskater 10 months ago
@ElWiiTard also, what product you use on your hair is really up to you depending on your preference. in this video i'm using organic root stimulator loc and twist gel, but i've since stopped using product in my hair to prevent build up. you just have to find what works best for your routine.
chescalocs 10 months ago
@ElWiiTard i've only done this in the past few years, so i'm not sure how well it would work with short locs. part of the process is being able to put your hair into a pony tail in order to keep the roots tight so if your hair isn't long enough for that, this might not be the method for you at this time.

BiggJern 11 months ago
@BiggJern i'd say no more than every 2 weeks. any more than that can lead to breakage and thinning locs. i try to do my hair every 2 or 3 weeks. it just depends on how i'm feeling. but it's really up to you. but everyone's hair and routine is different. you just have to find what works best for you.
