Do not go through this process of removing the bumper and headlights. Refer to your manual or other YouTube videos showing how to change the bulbs in much less than an hour with the headlights remaining in the car.
i hate cars that require bumper removal to do something as little as change a bulb. Most of the japanese do that nowadays, not sure why. I guess it does make it harder for a thief to steal the housing though....
@1mirarmar1 you don't need gloves as long as you don't touch the glass part of the new bulb which cost around 130 dollars for a pair at pepboys....o boy
I purchased some PIAA laps off Ebay for $40.00 and they are till working strong since I made this movie. Gloves or no gloves your choice. I am sure there are other way to replace the lamps. I will try a different way next time.
@TheSmartdude11 You don't really. The idea is that you shouldn't touch the glass ever - with or without gloves. Gloves give you a sense of safety that isn't really there... you're protecting the bulbs from yourself, and greese can still be on the gloves. So basically just don't touch the bulb.
Thanks for the good Video. I have been studying everything I can find out about this, before I attempt it myself. It's truly a shame that Toyota Designers are falling to the same level of incompetence that have plagued US Auto Manufacturers for years. 1) Remove Bumper Cover 2) Remove Headlight 3) Replace Bulb 4) Reinstall everything AND HOPE THAT TOYOTA WAS BEING HONEST THAT THE SHORT LIVE-SPAN OF THESE BULBS ARE NOT CAUSED BY A DESIGN FLAW IN SOME OTHER COMPONENT.
For anyone who is interested. I found step by step instruction for removing the bumper on the web site priuschat my-hid-bulb-replacement-my-06-prius.
Thanks so much for your video. Toyota's manual doesn't show one of the screws you note, which was holding up my progress. Just a note, I didn't have to take the bumper off, just loosen enough to get to the headlight bolts.
Easy? You have to take the whole front of the car apart. Have you ever changed the lights in other cars? You open the hood and reach behind the light and do whatever you were there to do. (Have not watched the whole vid.. and not going to because I don't really care how to change them as I'll never have a prius - only looking to see how they have hids without projectors) at 4 minutes now, you said that the whole headlamp comes out.. it does other cars too, remove 3 screws and it's out.

Yes you will need gloves. Oil from the skin can burn out lamps.
