I have pretty much abandoned using common nails for much of anything, the quality of nails I was getting from lowes and HD just sucked. I went to screws with the square drive and I install them with my 1/4" impact driver... When I built mine I also put a bead of construction adhesive behind the gusset for extra strength, cheap insurance!
I built a set of these tonight, I used 2x8's also only I made mine 24" tall. I have a lot of 6x6's to cut slots in and my old sawhorses were not up to it...........thanks for the idea. These are plenty strong.
Safety guards (while useful for the less experienced) really do give a false sense of security and safety. The best safety guard is the one between our ears. Respect your tools, use them correctly and for the right jobs, don't become complacent, and keep your hands/fingers where they belong. That will keep you safer than a cheap piece of plastic any day of the week.
Safety glasses might be a different story however...
But hey, this isn't a how to on safety! It's for saw ponies! ;)
We all adapt our tools differently to make it work best for our own use. Cody is really clever with his projects and this is a real nice change from all the ho hum videos on youtube. I Think this kind of saw pony is easily set up for building a home. I like how hee exsplains every thing in clear detail.
Great guitar & intro/exit work. Very professional!
Also, love the coil framing nail gun. Friends crap on mine, but they're more compact. balanced & hold more nails.
To the safety-guard ninnies, if you don't stick your hand in the saw, you won't cut anything off. And to make many cuts, especially on thicker boards, you HAVE to take your left hand off your board, reach up right next to the sharp blade & raise the silly guard just to get the saw to make the cut.
@carp60rd That's some sound, solid, well thought out advise. I believe he is both a home owner and a do it your self guy, that said where is his guard?
Yea, yea, that efficiency thing is all well and good fur you young'in, but us old farts got nothing but time and we needs it, for thinking. great vid, thanks for your time, Later ed.
i am a chef and this is how we work too. least amount of hand movement the better. i like this video because it reminds me of my grandpa and his style of working in his wood shop. thankyou cody
Dude, I would like for you to tell me why there is no blade guard on that saw. We all want you to keep your fingers and finish this project. I'm not being a wise guy I'm just being real......freakshow2000
@TheSoloAsylum Guard? are you kidding? The guards they put on new saws are more dangerous than using the saw without one. Thank you for you concern however there is no need. West coast carpenters never use guards.
Another great video, enjoyed the music. This is a usefull project. I could see these ponies used as stools as well.
Very good explanation on the thought process needed to increase productivity and efficiency. I have found this becomes more important with age. Your exactly right, a person can work in such a way that it resembles a truck in the mud. A lot of energy is being consumed, but forward progress is very slow.
