All hail Quicksand, a truly great band. Ok so they weren't technically astounding or anything, but they wrote some really good, hard rocking tracks that are as timeless as any Nirvana track!
Like, I fucking know they weren't "figuratively too smart for everyone".... Do you get what I fucking mean?? It's not proper English how you fucking said that....
One of the best bands from rock n' roll's last great era! 66 likes, 0 dislikes - find one other band with that kind of batting average. I wish they'd reunite. In the meantime it's cool that Sergio's got a solid gig in the Deftones and I like Walter Schriefels' current band Rival Schools. Come to think of it, Tim Capone played guitar for Handsome, who released just one album and it ranks among my favorite 90's heavy rock bands. But Quicksand was those guys at their best, in my opinion.
A buddy of mine had to introduce this band to me only a couple of years ago. Can't believe I didn't know about these guys. Unfortunately, back then I was too stuck to metal only. Thanks Jay.
There is pleanty of intelligent rock still around. Joe Coffee, for instance, a great band. Clutch is another. Its just not what the lists are jamming up our arses lately. You will like Fuel, nickleback, and 3 doors down or else!!!! Well, or else you wont be able to listen to rock radio anymore, which I wont. If you need your brain fix, go find Henry Rollins; the man who says really intelligent things while sounding like a unmedicated paranoid schitzo.
@overground & @ Dalus73 i totally agree! if it wasnt for this band and orange 9mm, tool or the thousands of bands that want that "sound" wouldnt be anything, its kinda sad isnt it.... this band barely got what they deserved but bands like tool and metallica have been writing the same tired regurgitated riffs for years and are making a millions doing so.
Absolutely one of the most underrated and under-appreciated bands of our time. My slip CD still plays without a skip after some heavy use in the 90's.
if you dig smart intelligent music with balls check out this new band bringing the 90's back "Cast In Cadence" check out the song "In a state of dyer need" just type it into youtube or go to Itunes to get the full album "serotonin". Support real music!!!
So powerful, and i love what their songs are about, like dine alone? I always hear that song when I'm stuck waiting for somebody (whether it's for dinner or what).
"Slip" is an incredible rock album. From it's very beginning to it's end it's powerful, moving music. There is not a second on "Slip" that I want to skip when listening to it.
These guys were amazing. I think they were literally too smart for most people. They weren't afraid to put a song like Dine Alone on an album and rock it. Could Tool or Metallica pull off writing a song that is literally just about eating by yourself in public? Maybe they could, but they wouldn't try it. It's a shame that bands like Quicksand, Orange 9mm and Downset just aren't built to last. I miss powerful, intelligent rock music. Just fades out too quick.
I don't know why people still compare Quicksand with Tool. Two completely different bands; it is like comparing chocolate ice cream with vanilla ice cream...both are great bands, and it all depends who likes who the most...it is not like you are comparing chocolate ice cream with dog shit. By the way, Tool is powerful with intelligent "rock" music (they are not exactly rock).
@OvergroundComics Haha ''a song that is literally just about eating by yourself in public?'' Dine alone is not ''literally'' about eating by yourself in public! It is absurd to even notion that idea. Doesn't anyone know how to read into lyrics anymore?
@stillpist Well, it appears that there are still plenty of people how read WAY too much into lyrics. Does the situation prompt thought? yes, but it's still just a simple description of a situation. Trying to complicate life to make yourself proud for "figuring it out" is just vain self indulgence. Are you seriously that desperate to argue with someone that you would debate a compliment? You're just weird.
@Str8Faced Never said they weren't, they were just a band in a different direction. I'm a tool fan myself, and was just pointing out that a band like Quicksand is a nice change of pace.
@OvergroundComics I agree, other than the fact that I think TOOL should have be excluded from that list. TOOL has been doing far deeper stuff than most people recognize and by no means deserve to be grouped in with Metallica.
All that aside, though, I love Quicksand, and this song in particular.
@OvergroundComics never ever ever put tool and metallica in the same sentence...for one: they are totally different genres and two: tool put out a song thats a fucking cake recipe in german and metallica sucks, well since load at least.
@OvergroundComics Too damn true. I've seen both Quicksand and Orange 9mm a couple times each and they have a sound just as incredible live. I long for the days when making powerful emotion-driven music didn't involve sounding like the male lead singer was a post-op tranny and could do little more then just whine.
@OvergroundComics You don't know how to use the word "literally", dipshit. You only use the word "literally" when there's risk of something being understood in a "figurative" context. You're write about Quicksand being great, but your ability to use language is lacking. Everyone uses the word "literally" incorrectly.......
@Thanos700 you are very hostile. I hope that whatever is going on with you improves so that you can interact with people in a more positive manner. I just made a comment about a band I liked. It's no big deal. We all make errors in speech sometime. I get a litle irritated by the constant misuse of irony, but I'd have a pretty sad life if I attacked everyone who made a mistake.
@OvergroundComics I'm just saying, if you're smart enough to appreciate this band then you should use "literally" properly, it's what Quicksand would have wanted. It's not just you, everybody's doing it. Like, you only use it if it's clearly opposed to a figurative understanding of something. Like, for example, if a bands second album isn't as good as their first, you could figuratively say the band "slipped". If a band falls off a wet stage in the rain then you can LITERALLY say they slipped.
@OvergroundComics and yeah you know what, i was pretty hostile. Look we're not so different you and me, I like Quicksand and weird alternative comic books too, but if you can use "literally" correctly then i'll try not to misuse "ironic".
@Monolith787 what are you talking about? how am I a youtube douchebag for just stating something about Tool, its not like I was being an asshole, and how was I supposed to know it was a joke?
@OvergroundComics LOVE me some Quicksand. Stumbled on them while looking for Rival Schools stuff. I've had all their albums for years but they just flamed out. Big ups for pimping Orange 9MM, too.
