  • Hi, thanks for the great video. Have learnt a lot about my mitress! I really like the volume mod you suggest. I have heard that it changes the character of the sound but will try it for myself to check. Thanks again.

  • fuck bp

  • Love your videos man

  • which song is playing at the beginning?

  • Why don't they make things like this anyone at EHX. Most is all digital now.

  • Fuck, your the man.... modding a circuit board.. . . This box is beautiful sounding, it as if nothing has improved / evolved beyond it in 35 years

  • @TheSpoonwood The mod was for a volume problem; the pedal sounds fine with it.

  • got a 70s dem but i have to mod it for european standarts (basically the power supply) aaaaahh can't wait

  • I'm 20 years old and live in the digital age but I love analog effects and I'm deaf with a hearing aid.

  • I actually have a RARE 9v battery version of the Mistress and I love it more than the 18v version I own. But my personal fav Electric Mistress is the Deluxe version.

  • Is there a different circuit between the Electric Mistress and the Deluxe version?

I recently picked up (what appears to be a 1978 version) and it really screams if you don't watch the feedback control.

  • I like the look of the older one better.

  • Your videos are so good, I'm subscribing, and I never* do that!

    * almost never

  • Thanks man, glad you enjoy the videos! G

  • @muzboz hahaha same here. :)

  • Hey G. I'm trying to get rid of my volume drop on a DEM, that capacitor and resistor you put in the non deluxe could it also be used in the Deluxe version?

Any tips on this would be really nice :)

    cheers Kenny.

  • I believe that the circuit layout is very different so it wouldn't work. G

  • When you blew the regulator did it also blow the sad1024? Do you know what the functions of the trimmers are, exactly? thanks for your great videos.

  • No, the SAD chips were fine. The trimmers set the bias and input levels (I think!) best not to touch them. G

  • Do you McGeoch used this thing during his time in the Banshees?

  • I'm not sure. I had an idea that he used an MXR flanger? I could easily be wrong though.

  • @Desmaad McGeoch is MXR all the way :)

  • at 10:00 it sounds like the tone at the end of the Camera Eye by Rush... heard some Xanadu in what you were playing there, too... :) Thanks for all your great videos, man. You are doing what we call "the lord's work" (for humor) here in the US.

  • What would you say are the sonic differences between the two models you show there?

  • I have the Deluxe version (mains powered, silver), but the knobs are the same as your original Electric Mistress, rather than the solid cylinder knobs like your Deluxe version. Is it from 1977 or later?

  • Sounds like a late 70's version. G

  • @blondegraemey thanks very much Graeme, cheers.

  • @blondegraemey

EHX has a reissue of the deluxe out right now, do you think it's any good?

  • Seriously, fuck these america's debt commercials.

  • @36errante YES

  • why does the circuit board look swirly compared to recent ones, makes it look more organic

  • Great sounding pedal. The newest Electric Mistress is both a chorus and flanger that can be blended, were the originals and I guess everything before the XO series just a flanger?

  • I have the link for that volume mod, but for some reason I cant post here, send me a message if you need it

  • @alexanderwald I need it!

  • why did i have to watch a loreal skin cleansing advert before this?

  • Hi there great sounds man!

I was wondering, dont know if you are familiar with throw away your televeion by the chili peppers, but im debated whether to buy this pedal or the moog 12 step phaser but I cant find out on line which he uses for the second verse at 0.49secs in to the song. He uses the phase in the chorus for sure but I dont know about that second verse. If you have time to give your opinion whether it was this pedal, that would be amazing. Many thanks for the great work!

  • Just had a listen. I would say he does not use an Electric Mistress in that song. G

  • @blondegraemey

Cool thanks! It must be the moogerfooger 12 step phaser then, as my phase 90 doesnt go extreme enough to do the job.

    Cheers.

  • @AxisOfSoulPower hey dude! if you wan't the sound from throw away your television, check out the line 6 fm4 (filter modeler). Its the one that john used in the song. he used the obi-wah setting on it and got that crazy phase shifting tone. Good luck :)

  • @Nimrod9458

Yeah i have one and i think ive got the sound nailed, and I was hoping that was also the pedal used on the second verse at 49s in, the stuttery guitar sound, but it isnt so Im trying to find out what hes used. It sounds like a phase so im guessing it is his moog 12 step phase cos he doesnt seem to have his phase 90 on his board anymore since californication.

    Cheers

  • @AxisOfSoulPower john frusciante is using a line 6 filter modeler or FM4 set to an obi-wah setting on a fast rate for the solo..... some sort of slapback echo is used from (00:32 to 00:42 and from 01:05 to 01:15) this will be created by his Line6 DD4.i belive he is also using an EHX holy grale reverb for parts if not all of the song and he is prehaps using an MXR phase 90 for the part you are questioning...this pedal has been on his board from the californiacation era onwards...:)

  • @topcatiscool

Hey thanks for the info. I got the FM4 and the slap back delay set to 1 repeat and to the tempo of the song, it is just the wierd phase kind of sound im after. I have a phase 90 and have tried and it doesnt quite do the job, it isnt quite extreme enough to sound close to the live & studio versions.

If you dont think it's anything to do with the electric mistress then I think im decided it must be the moog phaser. He has had that in use from by the way but not the phase 90. cheers

  • hey blondegraemy really nice video

I have one of these pedals and it sounds perfect, but recently something happened (i dont know what) but the sound developed an extremely annoying distortion-ey overload when i pick harder on my guitar, which increases as you turn the colour knob up. i am running it through the 18v adaptor with the 3.5 mm tip. do you know what i can do to correct it?

  • @bobblyface I have the same problem, were you able to fix it or find a remedy? thnx

  • I wish they could bring back the original electric mistress pedals.

  • @AASKICKBUTT Hartman makes a clone, if you're interested.

  • 09:10 --> Omar Rodriguez Lopez's tone in the beginning of The Mars Volta's Concertina video on YouTube with Eva (girl) on bass.

AWESOME sounds man. Very inspiring. I got a Digitech Rp500 today and I'm definitely going to try to use the Orange amp model with muff and flanger to get that chorus-y lead tone you got going. Awesome :D

  • Hi, your mod sounds really good.

I have the same pedal as you and have alot of problem with the volume drop.

Do you know where I can get the resistor and a schematic so I can mod my Mistress?

    Kind Regards

    Billy

  • Sorry Billy, I don't have the link anymore. Do a bit of googling and you will find something, Im sure. G

  • I have one of these, only runs on the batteries, i notice at 2.03 I can see ablack wire coming from the mains socket onto the pcb, mine doesn't have this..if i could get a close up pic of this detail I would be sorted, ill start a thread on gearpage

  • Hey...I've got a board that's a bit different. It's square and says "EH51000" on it. Is it original? How can I make the volume mod work? Are the cap and resistor simply in series with each other, or are they tied together at some point on the board?

  • Im not sure about the board you have. The cap and resistor are wired in parallel with another cap and resistor which are under the board. G

  • What song do you play at 7:52 ? Sweet riff!

  • It's not a song, Im just jamming. G

  • Man that sounds way better than my Electric Mistress (RI).

  • Hi! First at all-great, great, great demo!!! I've got the same pedal, but it got burned 2 months ago...gave it to a friend to fix it, but since then, it's just not the same pedal any more! Can you, please, send me the original schematic (with all settings, like those 2 blue "buttons" and if there is something else, too)? And if you can add that modification, too, please?

    Thank you!

  • Absolutely incredible! Thank you so much for this and all the other great videos you posted! Do you find a huge difference between the sound of the green version you have here vs the new reissue large version?

  • Thanks, glad you like the videos.

I have never played the newer Mistress pedal so I couldn't comment. They sound ok on the demos Ive heard. G

  • Yeah it seems that the main difference is the old green letter version has a volume drop when engaged but some say after they were modded for no volume drop, they lose their sweetness. Perhaps the new units that "fixed" the volume loss issue should have a vintage-modern switch where vintage would keep the sweetness or modern=no volume loss but a little less dynamics.

  • Honestly, I did not notice any loss of tone with the mod. I soldered the parts 'half in' and used a screwdriver to make contact so I could A/B the difference. The only change was a vast improvement in the vol drop problem. G

  • Hmm I believe it because it sounds great! I wonder why on some of those DIY places they make them as 9v...

  • Howard DAvis the designer from EHX has a mod for the Deluxe electrc mistress REsiisue that boost the high req to sound like the Green one...

the diference is some high end lose in the REissue

google Howard Davis pedal and the first link

  • The sound reminds me of my black/green vintage Deluxe Electric Mistress. Nice sound!

  • very nice indeed. Makes my old boss ones sound a bit anemic.

  • Had one in the '80s. Sold it cheap :(

  • 18v mistress cuts pretty much of a bass response when fuzz pedal engaged before...

I was pretty dissapointed with mine mistress... but now i know that's ok!))

  • I have one of these at my Mother's house. I had it repaired once and when it broke again I just left it there. I should retrieve it and try to fix it. ;-)

  • Best Ever <3

  • thank you Graimey! I was waiting for this vid! Really! I 've got the same mistress for repair and I've fix it eventually, SAD1024 was bad. I think without volume mod mistress sounds more transparent and liquid IMO.

  • I finally got one and I know what you mean by amazing

  • Oh my god, i need to pick up this pedal if I ever see it. It sounds so nice.

  • Nice pedal. I have the reissue Deluxe Electric Mistress and it still blows the socks off my mate's boss super duper mega flanger. He won't have it though.lol

  • ha thanks for making this video!

  • Incredible sound, and I don't really like flangers that much. When you put the fuzz with it as well, that was just awesome!

  • my favorite flanger of all time i just wish i had mine back from the shop thats fixing it

  • Sounds fantastic, one of the few modulation style effects I could see myself using at some point
