Pop-punk became a dirty word when it started to become too wimpy, like the vocals in this song. I saw these guys in '91 at the Chameleon in S.F. I liked them at the time, don't know if I do now.
And @mikecoppolag is correct, the Ramones were pop-punk. Definitive pop-punk. However 90 some percent of their stuff came off as ballsy, EXTREMELY powerful pop-punk.
i think its so funny when people trash pop punk and bands like this saying this isnt real punk etc.... listen to any RAMONES album and what will you find? love songs pop songs? yup you got it! They were punk right? They fucking pioneered it! long live MTX, Queers, Screeching Weasel and every other band that busted(and stil busts) their ass just like the RAMONES and got jack shit!
Thank you! Couldn't have said it better myself! I still hear little wannabe hardcore street punks ripping on pop punk who don't know shit about the history of their own scene. I'm glad you do, though, mate :)
Anyway, awesome band. I wish good pop-punk wasn't so overlooked. Why does Good Charlotte and Avril Lavigne have so many more fans than Mr. T Experience, Screeching Weasel, The Ergs, etc?
that's what i liked most about the book as you could tell it was pretty much the real life of dr frank in high school (or me or anyone that wanted to be in a band)
Just gonna leave this here but: are there any videos of MTX from the 80s online? Maybe from around the time of Night Shift at the Thrill Factory?

pop-punk isn't a dirty word. I believe the one you are looking for is "EMO"
Motosake177 6 months ago
@Motosake177 Yup, same can be said of emo. Used to be really good in the 80's and early 90's and now... now we got crap like My chemical romance

i loved this band but i really respect their hiatus. hearing them play the "hits" really bums me out. i'd much rather hear the newer stuff/

I saw these guys live back in the day. Maybe '98? They sucked just as bad live as they do normally.

if you can't work out how to play this without using tabs, you should probably give up the guitar.

god, i love these guys.
kickintelevision 3 years ago 55
That is SO true. Music is music, people. Enjoy and embrace it.
edgehead62888 2 years ago 5
@kickintelevision since people started putting awful bands under that category that had nothing to do with punk.
