  • Tain rushing the beat as usual.

  • @shawoody He's not rushing the beat, he's just playing right on top of it. Louis Hayes did it too.

  • @shawoody C'mon...Really??!!!

  • The sound, my soul, The expression express.

  • weird!

  • 時の寵児となった、マルサリスだったが、支えた盲目のマーカス・ロバーツの確かなモードフル且つ伝統バップ・ピアノに感嘆した、急速調"枯れ葉” #jazzm

  • oh my god

  • bminorwaltz speaks the truth

  • Autumn Gale.Equinoxian Gales, not the dead leaves, they all have been blown away.

  • maybe the faster part confuses people. it's not going double, that's the tempo they're starting at. the subdivision is grouped in 2 bars. it's much clear if u know the melody. not double time or feel, starting with tied whole note, 8 beats.

  • @jude4312 in other words, everything is half note tuplets until it gets to 'standard time' at the B and solo section.

  • They don't add a beat to each bar, they subdivide each one differently. whole note, half notes, half note triplet, quarter note, quarter quintuplet, quarter triplet, quarter septuplet, eighth note. Then the reverse for the next eight bars. Listen to Mr. Hurst and Mr Watts on the head in. Dead on subdivision of the beat.

Also Marcus Roberts is a total bad-ass here. I love this recording.

  • @bminorwaltz

thank you! That makes so much more sense.

  • that is awesome!

  • yeah marcus roberts!!

  • Wow I didn't know Will Smith was in to this kind of shit.

  • but ... but ... He does not put soul into the music, it's just technical. can never reach the levels of Chet Baker.

  • @cappellomatto95 have you heard his album with Willie nelson?

  • @cappellomatto95 im pretty sure his intention is not to reach the level of chet baker. 2 different trumpet players from a different eras.. he is doing what he loves which is playing music

  • Saw him and his band live in Vancouver during a Jazz festival. It was great he did a lot Duke Ellington stuff. It was really a treat.

  • Greatest Sound

  • favorite song on this album

  • this just kills me. I can't imagine the time they must have spent rehearsing to get the rhythmic changes on the theme tight.

  • Totally great. Gonna try to play this on my trumpet, might take me 2 months to get down the notes at that speed. I really like his playing here more than most other charts I have heard of him.

  • me encanta.... la raja,... lo tengo original!!

  • This is a great album - first jazz album I bought.

  • I played with him no bullshit.

  • @silkerplayer2kg2 whatd you play? and when and why

  • this is such a good version of autumn leaves

  • amazing how he increases the pulse slowly, rather then a flat out tempo change....

  • @enakrium

Yeah its odd subdivision. He adds one beat to each bar of the head, redividing it in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ,7 and finally 8 where its in double time.

  • @Jiboplexer Whoah, you're right. This is sick!

  • @Jiboplexer Metric Modulation at it's finest.

  • @Jiboplexer its a bit confusing to hear it. you cant tap your foot .

  • GENIUS
