@djnav4 If you really want to continue making videos, get a refund from Apple for FCP X and get Premiere CS5.5 instead. It's so much better than FCP X, it's staggering.
@BrainSpecialist email me about this. I am upgrading from iMovie 11 and this would be the logical choice. I am a documentary film maker so mad effects are not what's up for me, just the added sharpness that comes from FC Pro you can tell it when you see it.
I see FCP X is trying to copy Sony Vegas Pro 10 or better yet Pro 9. About time. Still not there yet. Sony Vegas Pro 10 can edit 3D and supports RED, this can't. As far as the rendering now in FCP, Sony Vegas Pro always had that feature, the reason i went from FCP over to Sony Vegas Pro! FCP you're late!
I don't know, I feel like this should have been the next version of imovie, instead of being the new version of Final Cut. I really, really hate that yellow video selecting whatever the hell it's called, ruined imovie for me.
FCP X really sucks.. its imovie on steroids. Who ever made the decision to push out this crap should be fired and slapped. I understand they are trying to get the majority of non-pros to buy this crap but its really an insult to all faithful fcp users. If they don't fix this, like many others will switch to premier or something else...

I know the interface may look cooler but this is clearly a poorly designed program. It's nothing wrong with making a program ground up but why is it so hard to keep some of the features from the previous Final Cut Pro 7? Truly it's a nice program to play around with when you're new to the industry (like I am) but even I can do more in some programs that doesn't have as much recognition (such as Adobe and Sony Vegas). You can't call this program "PRO" in any way...IMOVIE X!!!
Should Apple call it iMovie Pro instead of Final Cut Pro X? The interfaces are much like iMovie, not much like Final Cut Pro interfaces. I've read many websites and seen many clips on YouTube about "Final Cut Pro X" causes so many confusions to many Final Cut Pro editors because they don't want to spend times, moneys, and effforts to learn and master the new software while they have been experiencing and mastering the Final Cut Pro for years. I hope Apple team will release a new Final Cut Pro 8.

Hi Trippy, I just like to say that I support your attitude toward the software and don't worry about comments like the one mention a guy in his bedroom editing video blogs. I do remember when Avid was introduced in the market it was exactly like now. At that time All "linear editors" (I was one) complain and said that AVID would not live longer enough to tell the story, guess what we were all wrong. Today I am an Avid editor and I love it. I believe FCPX has the same potential. Well done

@romodrummerjz EDL's are Edit Decision Lists, they are ascii-formatted industry standards to carry an edit across any system. An EDL from FCP works in avid, works in premiere, works just about anywhere. It's a file that a trained editor can read and understand if media is unavailable and can be used to store an edit alongside media during a live project if its being moved to another editing house. FCPX is for amateur videographers, film makers will use tried and true over shiny and new always.
I just want an editor which when editing it doesn't lag and the audio and visual match, it is impossible to edit when the audio-visual are not lined up right [also lag]. Hpefuly getting the iMac 27 [2011] soon. [Death To PC]
i, o - drag over to the canvas and through in there... hmm? i use a shortcut for that f9 or f10. the only new thing from you newly discovered "buttons" is append clip. the rest is old and only have new shortcuts.
For PROS... Final Cut Pro X will be everything they want soon....what it is now is great..remember it is only v1...some will never like change no matter how good it is!
@sweetmollyfilms its interesting that you support so much fcp x when you dont have a single video in your channel, and that many pros stick with older versions since they were more reliable. I vote for premiere cs5, avid, and maybe vegas; even pinnacle is more useful and reliable than imovie for small proyects, and way cheaper.

@sweetmollyfilms well, faith is completly out of place in something that requires facts, and the facts are: 1st apple has lost a lot of credibility by sticking to do as they please, and sell overprized software (and also a bit overprized hardware); 2nd, while adobe have improved a lot and adapted to 64bit cpus (while apple is just beginning), there are more places where people still work with avid because its more reliable; 3rd, the interface of the fcp x is more kiddy than pinnacle studio.
@ArturoDabdoub Initially trading in the few workhorses for the mass public? That's not a bad trade. Plus, the application is only going to get more powerful from here. I'm sure people will stick to FCP 7 until Apple updates the application a couple of times. It has a lot of potential.

If they keep messing up, apple is going to crash just like sega did. its ok to make new things, as long as you dont forget the people whos going to buy it. Its kind of weird that they have kept the same GUI design of their OS X for such a long time, and decided to change in a single blow one of their main products, and forgetting about customers work (even if most of fc users are students and rookie film-video editors).
@ArturoDabdoub The only reason why Sega crashed was because of the hype around the PS2. Only fans bought the Dreamcast (I did), everyone else waited for the system that was more popular. In Apple's case, it's reversed. Apple is the company people buy products from because of the hype. They may lose some fans, but the mass public will replace them thousands of times over. I wouldn't say Apple forgot anyone. They just prioritized. It was time to inject design in Final Cut. Now it looks seamless.
@iDiggMGL FC had a good GUI. Again: fanatism is wrong, since DC had a few decent games, and sega was already dying since the first PS1. A good console, is the one that best works for the developers, since they are the ones making the games. if only a 20% of games in the market are good, and in one console you have 600 games and in other 230 (and many of the good ones are in both consoles), youll be smart in chosing the one with most games. Software is the soul: if software sucks, your pc sucks.

Because you first brought the dreamcast and sega as an analogy for Apple and FC, I'm going to assume you've seen the Icons episode on G4 which explains the fall of the system and the company from the people who ran the entire operation. The real reason why they fell was because of the PS2's hype. They had initial strong sales then it pretty much dies before the PS2 even launched.
@iDiggMGL LOL DC was mediocre as system, and you dont know what GUI is (graphical user interface, that means the graphical design of menus, etc, of a program). A great GUI would be one that you can customize, that helps you do your job without clicking too much. FCPX has a decent GUI for casual users, since it lacks of many common options available to the old FC and Premiere, AVID, etc. PS2 had retrocompatibility with PS1, was more powerful than DC, so it had more and better games than DC.
@ArturoDabdoub Yeah, says you. I don't think it was a mediocre system. All the fans who bought the console don't believe it was a mediocre system. It's hard to have a chance to have great games when the lifespan is so short in comparison to the PS2 but the Dremacast had one of the best ratios of good games to bad games. At least that what I've heard from some magazines.
GUI accounts for every aspect of the applications interface. GUI should feel natural to navigate through. Apple enhanced that.

DC had a short life, because very few were interested in making games to that console, just because it wasnt good enough: very few consumers were interested on it, most of them sega fans. I've read that some FCP Editors are gravitating towards Adobe Premiere Pro now in CS5.5 since you can still use it on an Apple with all other Apple programs.
Sorry but ripple editing, deleting etc. is really easy if you've actually edited before. Coming from Avid and Premier I set up FCP so I can go between insert or overwrite editing with one keystroke. I can leave gaps if needed or not with one keystroke. What a dumbass, obviously never took the time to learn how. And like another poster said you can view thumbnails in FCP 7. Again learn how to edit before spouting off.
Might I suggest that Apple more accurately represent its product by adding quotation marks, i.e. FINAL CUT "PRO". Or, since it's obviously aimed at consumers, how about FINAL CUT CON.
Kiddos, if you are thinking about getting any kind of JOB in the TV or film industry, I would stay away from FCPX. Listening to guys in their bedrooms who obviously just woke up will not be helpful.
@AnalogX64 Exactly, and the sad thing is they killed a decent software, to still sell it in a "pro price" to another audience who i beleive could be more than ok with pinnacle studio, since its 10 times cheaper, has color correction and many effects ready for use, and is really easy to learn. like the review of the cool toys... but, the meat of any editing application is it's ability to handle the work flow of the editing process... and, you didn't touch on this crucial aspect of editing...of course, work flow doesn't mean much unless your just doing novice home videos... if so, then why spend so much on an editing application such as FCPX?
Professionals FCP users I feel your pain. I left mac in 05 and went to Sony Vegas. I'm surrounded by macs in my building and see the concern on the editors faces. Good luck.

FCP7 looked like an ancient OS9 app, and it technically was. A redesigned interface is OBVIOUSLY going to have similar design to iMovie since iMovie is also a modern application. Hi Trippy, I just like to say that I support your attitude toward the software and don't worry about comments like the one mention a guy in his bedroom editing video blogs. I do remember when Avid was introduced in the market it was exactly like now. At that time All "linear editors" (I was one) complain and said that AVID would not live longer enough to tell the story, guess what we were all wrong. Today I am an Avid editor and I love it. I believe FCPX has the same potential. Well done

@romodrummerjz EDL's are Edit Decision Lists, they are ascii-formatted industry standards to carry an edit across any system. An EDL from FCP works in avid, works in premiere, works just about anywhere. It's a file that a trained editor can read and understand if media is unavailable and can be used to store an edit alongside media during a live project if its being moved to another editing house. FCPX is for amateur videographers, film makers will use tried and true over shiny and new always.

I vote for premiere cs5, avid, and maybe vegas; even pinnacle is more useful and reliable than imovie for small proyects, and way cheaper.

@sweetmollyfilms well, faith is completly out of place in something that requires facts, and the facts are: 1st apple has lost a lot of credibility by sticking to do as they please, and sell overprized software (and also a bit overprized hardware); 2nd, while adobe have improved a lot and adapted to 64bit cpus (while apple is just beginning), there are more places where people still work with avid because its more reliable; 3rd, the interface of the fcp x is more kiddy than pinnacle studio.

If they keep messing up, apple is going to crash just like sega did. its ok to make new things, as long as you dont forget the people whos going to buy it. Its kind of weird that they have kept the same GUI design of their OS X for such a long time, and decided to change in a single blow one of their main products, and forgetting about customers work (even if most of fc users are students and rookie film-video editors).

@ArturoDabdoub The only reason why Sega crashed was because of the hype around the PS2. Only fans bought the Dreamcast (I did), everyone else waited for the system that was more popular. In Apple's case, it's reversed. Apple is the company people buy products from because of the hype. They may lose some fans, but the mass public will replace them thousands of times over. I wouldn't say Apple forgot anyone. They just prioritized. It was time to inject design in Final Cut. Now it looks seamless.

@iDiggMGL FC had a good GUI. Again: fanatism is wrong, since DC had a few decent games, and sega was already dying since the first PS1. A good console, is the one that best works for the developers, since they are the ones making the games. if only a 20% of games in the market are good, and in one console you have 600 games and in other 230 (and many of the good ones are in both consoles), youll be smart in chosing the one with most games. Software is the soul: if software sucks, your pc sucks.

Because you first brought the dreamcast and sega as an analogy for Apple and FC, I'm going to assume you've seen the Icons episode on G4 which explains the fall of the system and the company from the people who ran the entire operation. The real reason why they fell was because of the PS2's hype. They had initial strong sales then it pretty much dies before the PS2 even launched.

@iDiggMGL LOL DC was mediocre as system, and you dont know what GUI is (graphical user interface, that means the graphical design of menus, etc, of a program). A great GUI would be one that you can customize, that helps you do your job without clicking too much. FCPX has a decent GUI for casual users, since it lacks of many common options available to the old FC and Premiere, AVID, etc. PS2 had retrocompatibility with PS1, was more powerful than DC, so it had more and better games than DC.

It's hard to have a chance to have great games when the lifespan is so short in comparison to the PS2 but the Dremacast had one of the best ratios of good games to bad games. At least that what I've heard from some magazines.
GUI accounts for every aspect of the applications interface. GUI should feel natural to navigate through. Apple enhanced that.

DC had a short life, because very few were interested in making games to that console, just because it wasnt good enough: very few consumers were interested on it, most of them sega fans. Smart gamers jumped from SNES to PS1, and a few like me also tried the N64. N64 was overpriced, and PS1 after a few years offered a lot of great games. it was hopeless.

Sorry but ripple editing, deleting etc. is really easy if you've actually edited before. Coming from Avid and Premier I set up FCP so I can go between insert or overwrite editing with one keystroke. I can leave gaps if needed or not with one keystroke. What a dumbass, obviously never took the time to learn how. And like another poster said you can view thumbnails in FCP 7. Again learn how to edit before spouting off.

Its a real shame. At least people will not trust Apple so easily after this, and maybe they will focus in the user, and not in their big ass egomaniac selfishness.
