  • Those were some brave men. You rarely see that kind of bravery now.

  • @billbob654321 so all the people who served in iraq are cowards? shut the fuck up

  • And there were many kinds of wounds that the veterans of this battle carried with them. Having said that, it was an amazing event...teamwork, determination, brotherhood...it took all of those things to take this little island.

  • All this, just so ZOG could open up the border and let mexico invade and conquer us. Fucking great. Now it will be civil war.

  • To an American soldier the Japanese army were probably quite scary. To a Japanese soldier the American army were probably quite scary.

  • Friendly advice: Actually make sure you know what you're talking about before you post something painfully incorrect, borderline disrespectful to the Marines who had to go through this. that, or don't comment. Semper Fi to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Marine Divisions, we wouldn't be here without you.

  • This was the only battle that the U.S casualties out numbered the total amount of troops of the enemy soldiers.

  • "alot of these brave soldiers knew they werent making it back". Yes generically they were "soldiers". Specifically they were US Marines (part of the Navy) of the 5th Marine Division. The 5th was formed and trained for only two battles: Pelileu and Iwo Jima (Vocano Islands). You may be thinking of the battle of Okinawa (Volcano Islands) following Iwo, which was fought by both US Marines and US Army, with large Coast Guard contingents and large Sea Beas contingents.

  • Why couldn't they keep the flags on top of Suribachi?

  • @bigdragon8me Not sure what you mean. The two flags which were raised on Fri/23Feb45 (1st & 2nd flagraisings) are on protected display as we speak, at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia. What you see @06:13 in this film is the 2nd flag, raised about noon that day. That actual flag is preserved and protected at the museum, as is the smaller 1st flag, which was raised about 10AM that day. Today, a permanent memorial marker sits atop Suribachi honoring US Marines.

  • Every time I see these films, I search for my dad's face. He had just turned 19. He was there all 36 days!

  • @JoyceKFaulkner Was he 26th Marines or 27th Marines? This was the only battle in Marine history where the invading units continued throughout the entire battle without being relieved. They were reinforced by incoming new guys, but they were not relieved. At the end of 36 days, some units had only a handful of original men left. All the rest were replacements. Because of your daddy's sacrifice, you and I are writing this in English today, not Japanese. Iwo Marines are the Corps' heroes. (Salute!)

  • @FLSHBK1 My dad was in the 26th Marines. Thanks for your kind words. It was a long, heartbreaking event in his life. He was proud but also sad.

  • DAMN, I heard that US army was used even anti-aircraft guns to attack this island, that was weird but effective :)

  • @easterndragon9x Actually the bombardment was highly ineffective due to the fact that the japanesse were dug in so well

  • American projections were for this battle to be won in 3 days. It took 35 days. 90% of Americans lived but almost 60% came back wounded. American casualties out numbered all of the Japanese who were on the island. Most of whom lost their lives in this battle. The Japanese knew before the battle that they were outgunned, out maned, and had nowhere to retreat. They knew the fight was lost before the fight began. 70,000 American soldiers against 19,000 Japanese

  • What is everyone talking about, lots of them didn't make it back.... 90% of the Americans who fought in this Battle lived.

  • Got a moment this month?Take a moment to remember the battle of Iwo Jima.I just finished watching footage about this. From both sides.Stay strong Marines.

  • i've hear the songs before but i forget where and let alone the names of them if anyone knows let me know!

  • @jimexproductions1 The music is Michael Kamen's "Discovery of the Camp", performed by the London Metropolitan Orchestra. Look in the right corner, just below the screen. Most You Tube music is identified.

  • At first I liked this for its indiscriminate mix of footage from both sides. Unfortunately towards the end it degraded into "HOORAY AMERICA". Nice choice of music, though.

  • Holy shit! Colour film footage of the flag raising! Btw nice music (from band of brothers) :)

  • FACTS: Jet fuel CANNOT MELT STEAL, no plane or large object hit WTC7, all 3 buildings collapsed in perfect vertical formations, firefighters reported hearing 4 LOUD BANG before the collapse from the 1st floor, all physical evidence have been recycled.

These evidences & many more r unilaterally confirmed by independent researchers & officials all over the world.

  • @FRGP2 why don't you watch fukin video

  • 4 US presidents assassinated. JFK was the last true US president. The other 40 are all puppets of the elite. utube his speech exposing them, that got him killed. Mark my words, they will attack Iran & N.Korea through sabotage & provocations, & mass media propaganda, & they'll get their support from stupid sheeps. They'll get their 3 rd Great Depression & WW3, & have their NWO. U have not done your homework. Like I said, go do your homework & stop fighting your enemy blindly, u stupid sheep.

  • @FRGP2 Congratualtions! You have officially become a Troll. And that horseshit you blabbed is now in my "I couldn't care less box." I will award you the official retard medal. XD.

  • "The finest hour of the USMC: the flag rasing on Mt. Surabachi! SEMPER FI!"

  • @MrWINNSLAW "The raising of that flag means a Marine Corps for the next 500 years!" James Forrestal, Secretary of the Navy, present at Iwo on Fri/23Feb45 and witness to the flag raisings.

  • what a waste of everything that is anything. F*** war

  • This may sound crazy but i would have loved the honor to go there on this day.

  • 1st Great Depression, WW1

    2nd Great Depression, WW2

    coming 3rd Greatest Depression, WW3

The Illuminati caused it. Time is running, if you want to stop what's coming, Research intensely about the Illuminati, & you will be able to see who your TRUE enemies are.

  • @FRGP2 Absolutely agree with you. Their hands are behind of everything that happen to this world wether in the past or present ..................media, organised crime, religious & etnic conflict, economy & politics unstability etc. You have a sharp mind FRGP2.

  • @FRGP2 That's just the most pathetic thing I've ever heard, give me some evidence on that

  • @olvoro11 U are a classic case of "denial". Jumping straight to conclusion that my comment as "most pathetic".

I could write a book showing u shocking truths about our puppet-government & who their true owners are, but there isn't enough space for that here. So I'll provide a kick start to anyone interested. Research: William Cooper, the man who predicted 9/11. And as I've said, research the Illuminati intensely. We live in an age of "Awesome Deception"!

  • @FRGP2 Dude, I'm sick of conspiracy theories, they were made up by silly tramps who had nothing interesting and useful to do, u seem to be intelligent, so why do u believe in bullshit?

  • @olvoro11 u came off combative calling my comment as "most pathetic"! No worries, I've heard far worse:) William Cooper's exposure of the NWO, that 9/11 was an inside job, his murder, was no conspiracy. He's 1 of countless of truth-tellers trying to warn the masses of human-sheeps, including u, that humanity is headed straight for the slaughter. And he was right, these sheepels really don't care. U reap what u sow.

  • @FRGP2 Boy, thats just not true! You claim 9/11 was an inside job, yet people like u have never been able to present us with proof of that. Al Qaeda claimed responsibility for 9/11

  • @olvoro11 Are u that ignorant? Or are u on the other side? If u are this ignorant, u are deliberately not to doing your homework. IGNORANCE ISN'T BLISS! IT'S A DEATH SENTENCE! All legitimate independent research proves 9/11 was an inside job. Countless of firemen, former police officers, PHDs, advanced architects, and certainly the victims who lost loved ones have come out to voice their concerns and their evidence- that 9/11 was an inside job. Whats stopping u to research on this?

  • @FRGP2 The fact that most of the internet is conspiracy based doesn't mean anything. What about the people who don't get in the internet. What about the non-conspiracy theorists who don't need to spread their ideas throughout the internet. What about the firemen, PHDs, advanced architects who do not believe in the conspiracy? There's plenty of them. Damn it, why do people like u need to "prove" a conspiracy in everything?

  • @olvoro11 U wanted facts. Now u revert to conspiracy. U don't have what it takes to handle the truth. I asked u, what's stopping u to research on this? No answer! If there r, as u claimed, countless of such individuals showing evidence 9/11 "wasn't an inside job", where r they? I don't see any independent researchers that have shown hard evidence 9/11 wan't an inside job, besides endless gov. & media propaganda. “Complacent ignorance is the most lethal sickness of the soul.”-Plato

  • @olvoro11 FACTS: Jet fuel CANNOT MELT STEAL, no plane or large object hit WTC7, all 3 buildings collapsed in perfect vertical formations, firefighters reported hearing 4 LOUD BANG before the collapse from 1st floor, all physical evidence recycled.

  • What is the name of the song 0:47 - 0:57

  • @danybellefeuille The whole piece is Michael Kamen's "Discovery of the Camp", performed by the London Metropolitan Orchestra.

  • the flame throwers was a big key to winning it..i watched a movie on it..pretty sad

  • It is debateable whether IwoJima had to happen. Certainly taking back the Solomons was questionable and many of McArthurs contempories were not happy about it but he had the ear of the president. I beleive that thousands of US troops died unecessarily doing this. IwoJima was one of the most savage battles of WW2 and, like the Solomons, history must judge whether it was stratigicly necessary in bringing the war to an end. I beleive it could have been avoided.

  • @tpsossff As with all battles in history there are those that question the rationality of those battles. Was Iwo necessary?? We should probably ask those that were there and not create our own conclusions. So in asking the almost 25,000 Allied airmen that did not ditch or crash, because of little Iwo being there, how many do you think will say it was worth it?

Iwo by all counts was a strategic location for radar, fighters and crippled bombers.

  • This was one of the most tragic battles in the Pacific theater of WWII, since the United States demanded unconditional surrender of the Axis nations, Japan soldiers fought til the end. Before the Battle of Iwo Jima, there were about 20,000 soldiers, after the battle only about 200 remained and taken P.O.W.

  • some of the photos are fake....

  • It had to be done and they did it without complaining. Those who survived it are dying of old age today. Pretty soon here won't be any Iwo vets left. Real men, they.

  • @dawoool I used to work with an old guy that turned out to be an Iwo vet. He lived in a bottle of vodka and OJ. He found out I had been a Marine and took me aside one day while drunk and started crying. Sadness of not having another Marine around to talk to about Iwo was killing this guy. He told me stories for hours that day and never spoke of it again. He died a couple of years later, wish I had recorded his memories of this battle. Scarred so deeply, but said it was like yesterday.

  • NEVER FORGET ! ! ! ! EVER ! ! ! !

  • the americans did the right thing... they also massacre philippines but the the brave heart of the filipino and american soldiers defend the philippines im so overwhelm of what they did rest in peace soldiers of freedom

  • all those brave americans who died fighting japenese savages and then the americans let the leaders and war criminals and butchers of 731 all go free ,exempt from proscecution for money and medical data from human experiments, sometimes i ask myself which country was the real evil. what a shame for all those that gave their lives defeating japan only to be stabbed in the back by their own govt.

  • Power crazy leaders. I am glad the yanks dropped the 'A' bombs Nagasaki & Hiroshima. If not, they would have continued to ravaged and destroyed all the way to the South pole while the Nazis were doing it to others in the northern hemisphere.

  • who really cares if the Americans invaded Iwojima and killed every jap on the island, im glad they did it, I'm thankful to the American soldiers who died in this battle, it meant a safer world in the long run

  • Safer world. Like what? Iraq? Afghanistan? Dropping bombs on civilians - already preparing to surrender. Just for the sake of "trying" the A-bomb (made in germany) on real human beings.

Unfortunately you have never faced a war on your own soil except against your own contrymen. You folks are talked into shit in the past. You still have no clue today. And you might never have a clue, because you still think, that the usa is the "good guys". What a disgrace.

  • Better them (iraq, afghanistan, japan) than us( Australia, canada, etc), i know war is terrible just glad its notaround me, and saying that id slaughtered thousands to protect that, who gives a fuck about some asian filth or some middle eastern religious radicals

  • There are no good or bad guys. It's all point of view.

I think the hiroshima and nagasaki attacks were horribly executed.

Wouldn't it have been better to drop the bombs near the cities? More witnesses-->less damages--->higher likelyhood for panic-->whole thing turns into a damn legend-->government panicked into surrender.

  • @Arc9er

Dropping atomic bombs is a crime on peace & humanity, which is same as adapted to Nazis. Nazis had got that crimes because they had killed innocent citizens intentionally.

  • you obviously have no idea about unit 731 or japenese biological warfare tests on chinese villages , women chilren behead, the rape on nanking, you should revise your history my friend, the japs were savages and would have and did use biological weapons off mass destruction without any care for innocent human life.

  • @andrewkenworthy Yeah, everytime someone talks about how exaggerated was US for dropping the nuke I mention the nanking rape. I think they got off it easy, I'd say more nukes. Relatively it's a small land to lose to radiation...

  • @omgtkseth

American killed civilians on purpose in Germany (and Americans knew what was happening to the Jews). It's ashame that winners write the history. The Allies were extremely brutal during the war (mostly the USA and the USSR) but I'm sure they tell nothing about the atroticies in your schools.

  • @MembThePenguinII I have to agree with omgtkseth. the IJA butchered u.s. POW's.I read that during the battle for peleliu the japanese carved grotesqe features on the prisoners, cut out there testicles and used them for bayonet practice like they were dummies. also remember the rape of nanking.

  • @altarickorean you do know that the minimum amount of casualties for landing on one of the home islands was upwards of 1,000,000 right? That's just one landing, there would have to be one landing for every island. The dropping of two bombs rather than loosing upwards of 1,000,000 American lives was a much better decision on Truman's part. And dropping bombs is not the same as the Nazis. The Nazis where tried partly on the fact that they segregated which groups to kill, add that they where nuts.

  • @WolYou Japan wasn't trying to surrender because Japanese general refuse to use war war criminals. I think you need to do more research, Pretty much you lack sympathy for those who died in the hands of the Japanese and U know that Japanese government never apologized for it's war crimes today. Nice try defending japan.

  • awesome!! i didint know any footage like this existed..Soemone needs to know what our boyz went thru...

  • our boys were the attackers they were the invaders fuck em, the japanese were the real heroes

  • Your a stupid fuck. go to hell.

  • We weren't invaders dumb bastard. We needed Iwo Jima because it had 3 air strips on it. Iwo Jima would've been an emergency airfield station. It was a small and ugly ass island but it was important.

  • oh so they go takin ppls lifes cuz the want 3 fuckin airstrips? this why i hate americans bunch of crazy ppl.

  • You don't know what you're talking about. Instead of flying all the way back to Pearl Harbor or Midway Island they could go to Iwo Jima, which is way closer to Japan then Pearl Harbor or Midway Island.. It would save them gas and time. I'm sure you would rather fly a shorter distance then fly for hours and hours and hours. And it saved the American's A LOT of gas and time.

  • What do you think Invasion is? They invaded it, because they needed the airfields. Just because they needed Iwo Jima doesnt make it okay to forcefully take it and keep it until 1968.....

  • So when they bombed Pearl Harbor, was that okay? It's war, in war, people do things they don't want to do. We took Tarawa too. And a lot of other islands. Because we needed them to win the war. I don't think anyone actually wanted to take them, I don't think anyone wanted to send soldiers to their death's. But it's war.

  • @GodzWrath35 Thats what I'm trying to get people to understand! Crazy, terrible things happen in war! It is just how it happens! Good reply

  • No problem. :)

  • Yeah, how about japanese boyZ......

  • my grandpa was in the navy and arrived there a couple of weeks after the battle and after what he saw that happened to those brave men he will not buy anything that was maded in japan and i agree with him japanese suck!!!!

  • moron

  • @vertramp911 It is closed mindedness like this that makes this world so sad. Yes the Japanese were in the wrong, and yes it was a very destructive time in our history, but do not hold against them now what was 60 years prior. War is Hell on all sides no doubt about it, but do not hold that out on a race that mostly didn't even partake in the war.

  • @vertramp911 The Japanese now are mostly a younger generation or women, the older males who happened to survive or not even partake so whoose to say they're all bad. It is just as bad to call an infant horrid. The child hasn't done anything nor has the newer generations of the Japanese. Besides they were desperate, even thought they caused it themselves the past isn't the present.

  • Their mistake was "looking up" to a "leader."

  • I think its time for another war, toughen up some of the youth today.....

  • shut the hell up! you know nothing of what war is!!!!! die in a hole!

  • at 6.15

    Long live America !

  • rock on!

  • Excelent

  • Sheezus.

  • Quite a few of those scenes were from Peleliu, not Iwo Jima.

  • good eye. iwo was mostly rocky, yes? my dad flew b-29's still gets misty about marines who 'liberated' airstrip on iwo & kept his crew from ditching in ocean more than once.

  • dude that was your dad? awesome!

  • Semper Fi.

  • thts real courage and honnor right there how did you get this video i3po

  • its amazing how many men died for 1 island.

  • @thewraitharecool Abt 20,000 Japanese defended Iwo ~ only abt 200 of them survived the battle, and only about half of those survivors survived captivity (1/2 died of wounds). 6,821 (some say 6823) Marines were KIA on Iwo, and more than 19,000 Marines were WIA there, making Iwo the only battle in Marine history where the invaders suffered more casualties than the defenders. A total of 46,000 casualties (US & Japanese) in 36 days, or 1267 casualties each day (53 per hour) for 36 straight days.

  • alot of these brave soldiers knew they werent making it back

  • @aclassen5 They're not soldiers. They're Marines.

  • @no1kiyoko Not true, my friend. LtGen Kuribyashi told Emperor Hirihito if America sent the Army to take Iwo, he could hold it. But if we sent Marines, Iwo would fall. Kuribyashi offered to sink Iwo so neither side could have it. By then Japan couldn't spare that much explosives. Kuribyashi said the best he could do is cost the US so many lives at Iwo, we would rethink invading mainland Japan. Kuribyashi studied US Marines while living in the US & respected them. He had contempt for our Army.

  • @aclassen5 quit being an uneducated fucktard..... marines are not soldiers dnt EVER disrepect the marine core. soldiers are the dudes in the army...... MARINES ARE NOT SOLDIERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jukokerguy "Corps".

  • @aclassen5 my grandfather made it back

  • @aclassen5

    They were Marines!

  • @aclassen5 Marines, not soldiers

  • @aclassen5 *Marines.

  • @aclassen5 If you're referring to the Japanese soldiers, that's true. There was never any doubt how this battle would end, only how many lives it might cost. The Japanese knew they were doomed. Every man on the island emptied his pockets and together they mailed all their money back to the Emperor, knowing they would all die. Kuribayashi told his men to 'kill 10 Marines before you die". He never offered them any hope of survival. Cut off from resupply or reinforcements, Japan knew all would die.

  • Look at their faces, lots of them didn't make it back...

  • scary shit.

  • awesome video
