Its a bummer he died so young, But at least Fr Ted has become a legend, And before He died Dermot was finally reaping the rewards of a lifetime in comedy.
apparently the father ted idea was pitched to rte but in their infinate wisdom turned it down and ended up buying the rights to play years later from channel 4
legend stand up many people only seem to think of father ted but dermots talent was at his best when on stage a master of the craft rip dermot you done ireland so proud and we will forever laugh and always smile on the drop of your name
@mokbass graham linehan has stated that he never brought the show to rte because they wouldnt have had the ability financially or the prior experience in sitcom that the British channels had. Its an untruth that RTE passed on it.
another thing that is so sad is that those outside ireland only got to see him as fr ted . those of us that are irish got to hear his sharpe satircal mind on RTE radio scrap saturday , his tv apperances and his live stand up. he was a really funny guy .

I would place Dermot Morgan right up there with Dave Allan as Ireland's best comedian.

Nice one Bob Collins, you must take some of the credit for his success by not sentencing him to a life in RTE.

Hard to watch a gangster like Bertie pay false tribute to a great man like Dermot Morgan, PJ Mara didn't sound convincing either.

Agree with the first part of your post but you should check out Paths to Freedom, a brilliant Irish Sitcom from the early 00's.
