A brilliant mind; however, I do disagree with his views on manned spaceflight. His arguments against human exploration are arguments against free human movement. Rees' philosophy is basically: why bother visiting New York when you can view the city through a webcam online? Why go to Mars when we can send robots? His is a very British approach, overtly cautious and danger shy...that's not to say that robots have no relevance; send them as scouts however, then let the people follow...
He came to our university and gave a talk and he signed a copy of his book (Six Numbers) for me. An absolute gent.

Martin Rees is great...!
We only need to know the real reason for our existence, and we will can move the world in human reality, tecnologhy and nation realities.
For a social grow, the people (Humanity), have to live over Earth... in the space.
