Kanye's that good to recognize artist who were good in the past that he gives credit and shows future generations that the past music is something to listen to.
@scantence Why? What he does for hip hop is refreshing...im tired of hearing the same fucking beat over and over again...its just bass, snare and high hat..like thats 90% of most rap nowadays...kanye has brought all different forms of music and incorporated it into his own sound...which sounds so damn sexy...you can hate on kanye himself just not his music lol
He's still my Fav Rapper. He bring back old songs and beats an made them different in is own style. If he did take them we would of heard him being sued.So that means he had to ask to mal the song an not just taken it.
sampling is quite difficult. you have to dig through tons and tons of music. some of which you don't like... just because you find a good song, it doesn't make it a good song for sampling. after you find a good sampling song you have to chop up bits and pieces speed it up or slow it down. of it to find the right sound for the emotion you want to portray. you then have to get the rights to use it. when you sample it needs to be a pretty original song and you should chop it up beyond recognition
nobody is fuckin wit kanye in terms of production - period - the best/most dynamic producer ever - NO I.D. was his teacher, but i still say he's better
to all that say sampling is easy post, a vid off you sampling something to make a beat and if a person can id the sample easily or if it sucks your comment is no longer valid.
sampling doesn't take half the skill it does to actually be able to play the music, much less touch upon the talent of the originator of the talent, real musicians don't sample, they play/create their own music. I actually think the originals sound better, Hip Hop beats over simplify the originals, they lose all their nuances
@ATENakaATON but kanye west technically isnt a musician.. he uses samples to create beats for his raps, and thank god for that, because its introduced me to lots of great artists i've never hear before.
everyone is forgetting that while he made millions off this samples , the original artist received a shitload of money , i'ts a win/win situation , ( i like a lot his music )
@javoutube1 Yes man but you can't have Sony, BMG etc. to be so aggressive about copyrights. Many artists did copy music from others but then the big corps don't care as they make profit. When it comes to their own pocket then they become all sentimental.
I don't think sampling is a bad thing but to me it questions whether he can come up wit something of his own. Dats way too much sampling of otha artists music I think
But I guess I'm ready to battle more incompetent moron's that think sampling is an "art","talent," or anything remotely in the sights of genius. It's idiocy and boarder line blasphemy to think other wise.
great compilation, poster. hopefully this isn't a surprise to anyone. It has been pretty obvious that he does this for quite some time lol, but if you don't listen to real music then I can see how his beats might come off as genius.
@FoShizzle713 Thank you. I've been at non stop battle for a while here on YouTube, trying make morons understand that there is no credibility to be an "artist" if more than half of your music isn't ORIGINAL.
You said it. He's not any kind of musical genius/artistic genius if he just takes old songs and increases/decreases the pitch a few semitones, adds in hip hop drums. Almost every good kanye song I've heard is sampled... very unoriginal and disappointing. And he doesn't just sample a few vocals or something, he actually samples the entire song (notes and chords composed by someone else). This video makes me lose respect for him as an artist.
@FoShizzle713 im guessing you dont understand the concept of sampling. its something all hip hop artists do, and its a lot harder than just slowing it down or increasing the pitch. if it was that easy we'd all be rich by now. the artists he samples from respect him and allow him to do it. obviously he has a great knowledge of music to be so good at sampling, and to be honest your comment makes you seem really stupid. be a bit more open minded in future.
@frusciantefan122 What paint and brushes are to art instruments are to music; what drawing is to art playing instruments is to music; what the picture from technical skill and imagination is to art the song is to music; what copy&paste/tracing.is to art sampling is to music. Sampling takes the same amount of talent/skill as digital collage. He cannot physically make anything so without computers and other peoples work he has nothing, since he can't make music he will never be a musical genius!
LOL the only people who are ripping on kanye are the ones who dont actually listen to him and then make assumptions about his music. I listen to his songs for lyrics and flow before the beat. always.
#1 sampling ISN'T stealing, because you have to get the permission from the original song owner
#2 Sampling ISN'T easy. Everyone thinks all you do is add a snare and 808 to any sample and that's a track. Rapping isn't easy either, especially not with Kanye's wordplay and style
#3 if anything, it's more glory to the original song owners because it just means that the song really inspired Kanye to put his own spin on it since he liked it enough. Almost all the best newer aged rap songs use sampl
I feel like this is very unfair... The real geniuses here are the ones who created the original songs but kanye didnt make any of it although i guess you can argue he made a very small part of it.
this is BS! Genius?? geniuses are the people who created the original stuff, sampling and then ryming is easy!! Thats why all his songs sound the same
Samplin is fun as hell. I only wish I could do it like him with those nasty ass drums he has. I hate rap nowadays so I put off makin beats for a couple months but seein this makes me wanna start again just to see what I can come up with. I have yet to hit a record store I think I'll do that. Kanye is one of the few I can still stand to listen to. Watch the Throne wasn't that good to me but everything from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy to The College Dropout was classic shit.
@DestructiveParadise No. He's not a "genius," he's taking other musician's work, pitching them up or down, adding some drums and calling it his. I'm no pro but I could easily accomplish that. Sampling itself is fine, just not lazy sampling - ie. taking LONG samples, looping them over and over and not adding much to the original piece (other than a rapper's vocals). Seriously, fuck that. Real producers make their own beats. Kanye and Timberland just steal other artists' works.
Remember, these arent even all the same genre or time in history, these are classics that span years of musical creativity and change, and to take all these different sources and put them into of ALL things the hip hop genre, is the work of a genius.
I wasnt gonna comment, but I just need to say something here. Kanye West is not a parasite, a jackass, or anything like that. He grew up listening to REAL music, and wanted to incorporate his love of the past into his music of the present so people of the future wont ever forget. And to be able to shape these wonderful songs that are great on their own into masterpieces of hip hop is just insane.
@MrFreeForAll25 I would agree with you on this if he would sample one maybe two songs but when the samples start to pile up i think the artists creativity comes into question.
*sigh* Sacred ground. I mean, c'mon. It took the original artists alotta work to do what they did. At least use their stuff creatively especially if you make money off of it...
Im not sure how i feel about this. Some of them are stretched far enough to call it creative. In other cases he just straight up USES the original as it is. That's sorta cheating. Imagine how you would feel if you created something original and then in 30 years someone ripped it off and made millions off it. I'd be frustrated by that for sure.
Kanye west is the parasite in the music world. Lives off of other people's work and slaps some auto tuned ignorant jibber jabber on it and calls it his. Been sued for stealing copyrighted music 4 times and people still listen to this clown?
some people don't understand the complexity of listening to a song, sampling that song, and making another piece of music with a completely different message and vibe. It is natural to gravitate toward the same then of an original song, but Kanye can just tune that out
@arumz99 Reading music and understanding it's basic principles is not talent, it's the ability to actually create music which requires talent, to take other peoples work and remix it just shows you understand the elements of sound, not that you actually have the talent or imagination to create those sounds yourself.
I didnt kno Kanye sampled so much. Pretty cool and interesting. Especially who he samples. I havent heard more then half of those original songs. So props for sampling.
But the thing that gets me is that his samples are alittle plain. He will just use a little part and just keep looping it. I understand looping a beat, but vocals are different. U gotta mix shit up. Make people look up the sample cause the song is so damn cold.
"My Song" / "I Wonder" is at 9:09 btw for all interested.
I also REALLY like how Kanye did samples on his latest album, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy". They sounded much more like original compositions than do a lot of his earlier work presented in this video. You can search "my beautiful dark twisted fantasy samples" to see them.
Coming from someone who actually makes his own beats... Sampling isn't hard, guys. Just load the song into the machine.
THAT BEING SAID... What signifies Kanye as a great producer is how he surrounds the samples with new sounds. One of my favorite examples is Labri Siffre's "My Song" / Kanye's "I Wonder". He takes Labri's voice, re-programs the drums, adds synth and bass lines, incorporates live instrumentation and then adds his lyrics, making something (almost) completely original.
genius? ....how? I WILL say he is very good at beat making and sampling, I'll never take that from the man. But "genius", is a little too much. Plus..most times people "sample", it's usually fueled by a ostentatious plan to show how vast one's musical taste is over others. Remember when in hiphop it was cool to sample and reference old soul tracks..now it's all different kinds of genres. There are pretentious sheep herding tactics at play.
Apparently neither do you res dog. Sampling is just to make you and whoever "samples" feel better about stealing. Sampling is not hard, nor creative. Its rapping over someone elses hit.
Sampling really is quite difficult. Kanye has a great ear for music combined with an incredibly creative mind. I really think those two attribute combined with his work ethic is what has brought him the success that he has today.
Trolling, no. hating, no. calling someone out for being fake, hell yes. Sampling is hard, highly doubt that. Its not really a sample is you steal the whole song. I am far from a " producer" such as cardboard kid. But I have freinds who mess arond in the studo. And taking a song and rapping over it is som of the easiest shit I have ever seen.
My personal opinion is that kanye is a loser. To be so arrogant and call yourself and artist is a damn joke. This isn't music its bullshit. Its all a copy. He isn't original at all. The real music is what's underneath. Not this dumbshit. But society is to ignorant to know the difference. Now if he were to put himself on blast in the begginning and say this is how I'm doing it then it would be cool. But he lies to his own fans like he made the music himself. What a f ing joke.
@bostongeorge1000 Are you serious? Everyone knows he samples!? and if you dont, you can't call yourself a fan... Sampling is one of hardest things to do as a producer, so why don't you try it yourself before you start bitching...
kanye is obviously a talented muthafucka no questioning that but damn how u gonna make a whole career out of just flipping other people's work, i think ppl give dude too much credit sometimes
@Toddyboy1980 A lot of musicians have samples or covered other musicians and made it their own. Elvis did it with many of his songs including Bach, he sampled variations of other composers as well. It's been done throughout centuries and genres. Its not not make it talentless at all.
Apart from maybe Dre and The Bomb Squad I believe Kanye is the best hip-hop producer ever. Period. His abilities to craft songs and his sampling skills are amazing. He's single-handedly introduced me to some fantastic songs due to his sampling.
i love KW...but honestly...truth be told...he did not create these from scratch...and as such he is not a talented musician (as compared to those that actually makeup the beats and lyrics from their head). Using samples i understand is the way of hip hop and music these days...but that fact alone doesn't make an automatic genius. I m not taking credit away from his sampling genius but please don't compare him to real musicians/artists that actually 'create' the original beats.
I watched this video so many times. I don't wanna sound like his cheerleader or anything but if more people seen this video they would like him a lot more.

And taking a song and rapping over it is som of the easiest shit I have ever seen.
bostongeorge1000 3 months ago
My personal opinion is that kanye is a loser. To be so arrogant and call yourself and artist is a damn joke. This isn't music its bullshit. Its all a copy. He isn't original at all. The real music is what's underneath. Not this dumbshit. But society is to ignorant to know the difference. Now if he were to put himself on blast in the begginning and say this is how I'm doing it then it would be cool. But he lies to his own fans like he made the music himself. What a f ing joke.
bostongeorge1000 3 months ago
@bostongeorge1000 Are you serious? Everyone knows he samples!? and if you dont, you can't call yourself a fan... Sampling is one of hardest things to do as a producer, so why don't you try it yourself before you start bitching...
