Everyone has an opinion. Regarding Alice - he is immortal, but the best band was the original and not the heavy thrash metal re-incarnations. Thankfully, the old songs like this one sound good any way you cut them.
Drummer Whitey Glan & bassist Prakash John don't get enough credit.. Great rythym section. John may have been the best bassist of the 70's but unknown because he was a gun for hire rather than band member. Listen to Reed's rock &roll animal song "white heat/white light" bass playing
@hanajinks HAIR BAND?--Absolutely not. Its all opinion, though...
The original band sounds like a garage band to me. But...they were the originals-which automatically puts the Buxton/Bruce/Smith.band in a class by themselves.
C'mon folks. Being more technically proficient doesn't make it better. It's about what band had the most youthful fire. The original group was easily the best Alice era. By '75 still great but the prime was '71-73.
@AllmightyQustionMark I think that's Steve at !:43...Dick solos at 2:13 and the tone is different--Steve comes back in about 2:30 and you can hear Dick clearly about 3:10---it's tough to decipher at times but Dick always sounds like he's turned up to eleven. Steve has a cleaner sound while Dick seems to use more distortion... :)
But the best players by far were these guys you hear now. That's why Hunter & Wagner were the main players you hear on Billion Dollar Babies because the other guys were either unfit to play or were not at the same level.
I worshiped Glen for years until I realized it wasn't him playing on a lot of that stuff.
Not taking anything away from him though. He was a great player/writer, just that he didn't always play what you thought he did.

Wagner and Hunter flat out smoked these guitar to death! Plus, the bass work is awesome! The best version of Alice Cooper IMO!

Just saw Cooper on May 18th and it was a nice surprise to see Steve Hunter as one of the three guitar players for the tour

Best Cooper line-up to date for playing live shows, legendary in every aspect of the word.

@worldneedsguts Fuck no, not to me! I'd rather see the original Alice Cooper group.
These guys are good, but fuck, I don't want to see a show where each song is a 4:00 minute guitar solo.

Absolutely. Superbly crafted solo's & a tone to die for, both recorded & live
