  • The weather made the video beautiful from Newman

  • Thanks for your comment

  • A right royal film. You got Britannia in fine fettle there. A like from me. Barry

  • Thanks Barry, she looked and sounded really good, presumably HRH was suitably impressed!

  • Britannia in green! Fantastic! Let's hope that one day it double-heads with Oliver Cromwell!

  • I hope so too, a noisy combination that'll be!

  • yes tell me about it,normally kids

  • great video shame about the dog

  • Thanks, that dog never stopped from the moment I arrived! Dogs, chainsaws etc. the bane of the videographer!

  • Despite appalling weather conditions, a very, very good result. Bravo and thank you Austin. Philippe

  • Merci Philippe, il est toujours assez particulier pour être en mesure de filmer le Train Royal, malgré le mauvais temps

  • Excellent Austin - and a great noise from 70000. You don't see much eastbound steam on Copy Pit (or westbound come to think of it!), so great to see this. Thanks, David.

  • Thanks David, even though this involved a 130 mile round trip for such a short shot it was one I felt I couldn't miss. We can look forward to seeing Lizzie over Copy Pit soon.

  • What a surprisingly great start to the year on the mainline . Who would have thought that 70000 was going to do the honors on the Royal Train before RYTC's train out of Manchester this Saturday

  • We have so much to be thankful for with the mainline steam scene. Nobody could possibly have forseen how it would develop back in the late sixties

  • The noisy old kettle sure did make the sheep run like hell. LMAO ;-) <3

  • Yes indeed, timid little creatures!

  • Superb vid...glad she's back in green as befits a Pacific....that sounded like a very heavy train 10 coaches and heavy ones at that?

  • Thanks, yes I think the Royal Train coaches must be a considerable bit heavier than the norm plus the weight of the 67 at the rear, so it was an impressive performance from the Brit.

  • Great footage Austin as always! The Brit was in great form and with the sanding gear in full operation the driver was taking no chances with the Royal passenger! Good to see it in green and with its nameplate, and that was a nice touch to paint the top of the cab white, very thoughtful someone! The rain looked and sounded horrendous, made me feel quite at home! Thanks for braving it and sharing it with us. Ken

  • Many thanks Ken, the driver was certainly not taking any chances, the gradient around there is 1 in 68 climbing to the summit and those rails must have been very greasy. I did question my sanity in the rain but having now dried out I can laugh about it

  • Superb video.

  • Thanks, glad you enjoyed it

  • Just wanted to add my thanks for a great video. Great to see Britannia back in green with a white top great honour and good for Steam. Sounds great too! Fantastic Job Thanks

  • Thanks for your kind comments, much appreciated

  • Austin, thanks for going to so much trouble, what a superb sound (except for the dog!) and great to see her looking resplendent in new paint.

  • Thanks very much, the dogs were in the farm just below me and started barking as soon as they saw me coming down the footpath and never let up the whole time I was there!

  • Great work Austin thanks for getting wet & sharing

  • Thanks, this one was worth getting wet for!

  • wonderful sound there Austin, great location, to see it coming through the rain and mist with sanders on, marvelous, cheers. PM on way.

  • Thanks Leon, she sounded great and you could hear her working well before she came into view

  • Absolutely brilliant footage and thanks for sharing this, Lovely sights and sounds from the superb steam locomotive,

  • Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it

  • Duh! just noticed the HD symbol, sorry for silly question

  • despite the weather, what a brilliant video (is it HD?) lovely side view, Thanks

  • Thanks, you always hope for a nice cold sunny day but get used to being disappointed!

  • ......stunner Austin, despite the weather. She sounds really strong.

  • Thanks Matt, the Brits do make a cracking sound. Can you imagine 70000 and 70013 paired together

  • Well done Austin for capturing such a stunning sequence of the 'Brit' back in it's green livery. and white cab roof....Last time I saw her in this livery was at Bewdley back in the seventies...Bob

  • Many thanks Bob, it was a fairly long round trip with an early start for such a short sequence but one I couldn't resist.

  • Thanks for standing out in such horrible weather to bring us all this great video and it's nice to see it in green with it's nameplates.Chris

  • Cheers Chris, despite the weather I was pleased I went out as she looked and sounded superb

  • A superb sequence despite the terrible weather.

  • Thanks very much, it was too much to hope for a cold crisp sunny morning I suppose!

  • Austin, Superb sight and sound. Thanks for sharing. Regards, John

  • Thanks John, despite the conditions it was definitely worth going out to see this one

  • Belting shot Austin , what a sound she made even in terrible conditions . Britannia looks superb and should sound even better over Shap in March. Nearly went near you but opted for Houghton . Regards Steve

  • Cheers Steve, how fortunate are we, to have not just one, but two Brits making their wonderful sound on the mainline. This one was definitely worth getting wet for!

  • id be on the footplate all the time if I was royalty =)

  • Yes indeed, I reckon nobody would disagree with you there

  • Excellent shot and sound Austin, you were just up the path from me and I think we will both agree the Brit was well worth getting wet for.

    Regards Phil.

  • Thanks Phil, you must have made a smart getaway or was it me being slow coming down the hill! No question, this was definitely one worth getting a soaking for, the Brits make a superb sound

  • Outstanding shot!

  • Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it

  • Great vid and what a sound in such horrible weather

  • Thanks you very much. You can always rely on a Brit to make a fine sound whatever the weather

  • Wonderful catch. The weather adding just the right amount of mood. Was there a special royal carriage, or was Charles working on the fooyplate?

  • @bluecomet390 Uhh .... make that footplate!

  • Thanks, I suspect he would have liked to have been on the footplate but was probably finishing off the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs!

  • Great video, a little brighter (but not much!) than my early morning shots at Lostock Hall!

  • Thank you, my spirits lifted a little when I arrived at Holme Chapel as the rain had eased and it became a bit clearer for a while. True to form it was pouring again when the train appeared

  • Great video Austin in very poor conditions. Thanks for braving the wather. Keith

  • Cheers Keith, I had decided this was one I couldn't miss despite the weather. 70000 looks superb back in green

  • As always, cracking photography & sound. I remember stumbling accross Britannia and Sir Nigel Gresley amongst the Black 5s and 8fs in Crewe South Shed circa 1966. Britannia was looking decidedly woebegone with a bent cab roof. I took the oportunity to 'cab' them both! Its great to see 70000 looking so good on such a prestigious working.

  • Those are great memories, we couldn't have imagined back then that one day 70000 would pull the Royal Train. Thanks for your kind comments

  • Smashing Austin. Thank you. If I was royalty I'd demand steam everytime. Great to see her back in green. All the best....Tim.

  • Thanks Tim, I have a sneaking suspicion that Prince Charles is something of a steam fan. The guys at Crewe have done a great job on the Brit.

  • I bet Charles was saying "But does it HAVE to be Wakefield....?"

  • Yes, not the most salubrious spot in the realm I understand. But never having been myself I'll say nowt!

  • Cracking clip despite the weather, Austin, and just reward for your early start.

We all seem to have avoided each other this morning, LOL

    Mike

  • Many thanks Mike, it makes a change for us to be in different spots although Phil must have been just down the hillside from my position. By the time I slithered down he was well gone

  • FANTASTICO....

  • Grazie mille. Mi fa piacere vi sia piaciuto il video

  • Excellent video in poor weather. Most enjoyable,Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks, as you will know, we just have to take what the weather throws at us and hope the camera stays relatively dry!

  • Good shooting Austin,shame about the conditions.Peter.

  • Thank you kindly Peter. The weather could have been kinder but we just have to take what we get

  • Thanks to your contact and You Lovely vid so nice to see 70000in grn with a white top and another feather in the cap for Steam UK..

  • Thanks, It is great to see her back in green, be wonderful to see (and hear) her double heading with 70013

  • Brilliant footage of the Royal Train. Didn't know about this.

    JamesandPeter

  • Thank you, these workings are usually shrouded in secrecy but a few details often sneak out fortunately

  • @acw71000 - thankfully, our Local BBC news "let slip" at 9am that HRH was visiting our region for the ceremony...we made it to Kirkgate by the "skin of our teeth" and managed to get up close with Britannia. We were shrouded in steam as she left for York but worth it! Lovely footage of yours by the way.

  • Bit of a grey day but excellent sight and sound Austin. Chris

  • Thanks Chris, I woke up this morning, heard the rain and wondered whether to bother but the lure of 70000 was too much

  • Excellent footage Austin at last she back in green proper colours. Andrew

  • Thanks Andrew and doesn't she look superb

  • Brilliant shot in such awfull weather. She looks great in the new livery (C&A) Liked.

  • Thank you, she does look superb n green again, full marks to the team at Crewe who were responsible for the repaint

  • Thanks very much Austin, for the details as well as the video. I knew nothing of any of this. What is the significance of Wakefield? Brittania always puts on a good show, I'm glad you were there. . . . . . . Alan

  • Me too Alan, one I couldn't resist. H.R.H had a few engagements in South Yorkshire so I presume Wakefield was the best spot where the renaming could take place. 70000 proceeded to York later with the stock
