I don't understand how people compare wrestlers from different years and weight classes. All of them were great at the peak of their years. Karelin, Khadartsev, Fadzaev, Andiev, Medved', Saytiev, Yarigin, Musulbes, Taymazov, Smith, Yaltiryan, Shahmuradov, Batirov, Gatsalov and many more are all true wrestlers.
"The end of the Star, the rise of a Legend!" Buvaisar Saitiev is the best freestyle wrestler of all times. That unfortunate loss against Brandon Slay cost him his fourth Olympic gold. Yet, aside from Alexander Medved, no other freestyle wrestler has been able to win three Olympic gold medals.
@CubanColonel I'm going to have to disagree with you and throw in John Smith as the best, Smith had a very offensive style which vanished from wrestling in the 90's when the rules changed and started to favor the very defensive Russian style. taking nothing away from saitiev, but I just don't think he ever met a wrestler with the offense that Smith had. Smith however beat Sepan Sarkisian many times who had incredible defense. (plus, Saitiev has been very disrepectful about that loss to Slay
@pthompson2010 Couldn't agree with you less. John Smith was one of the greatest; no doubt about that. Perhaps I would go as far as saying that he can well be considered the best Western wrestler in history. But you must not forget that he lost to Sarkisian as well. Saitiev achieved more, I believe, as his record might demonstrate. I would place John Smith fourth in my list of all-time greatests: after Saitiev, Sergei Beloglazov, and Arsen Fadsaev. Possibly Batirov will achieve more than all.
@bodylock88 You are right. How could I forget about him. I was just trying to make a point about Smith though. Nonetheless, I do not believe Jordanov could equal the level of Saitiev or that of Beloglazov or Fadsaev. And like I said, Mavlet Batirov, I believe, will surpass all of them.
I have to agree with Sam61493. Most of you probably don't know but casey cunningham trained with slay and learned to mimic the exact style of saitiev. For the first few weeks cunningham was beating slay, yet then slay looked at tape and put a strategy together to win it all. I would not call that luck at all i call that having a plan.
for all u guys saying that Slay got lucky, just watch an interview on him nd his match w/ Satiev. He trained extensively to Satiev's style to counteract it and then beat everyone else at his weight so i really don't think he sucks or he got lucky
19 year old olympic champ ... are u tripping balls... this man is a god watch his matches this is how to wrestle freestyle bro... brondon slay was lucky to win that match he could barely beat joe williams...
Slay came out of nowhere. People were saying his win was a fluke when he beat Joe Williams at US Nationals. Well he beat him again at the Olympic Trials and he trained hard and won the Olympics and defeated Saitiev. How many people can say they have done that? Please give credit where credit is due. The man earned it.
dude, slay is a great wrestler and nobody can take anything away from him. whether you believe his overtime win over satiev was a fluke or not, the fact still remains that satiev had broken ribs when he wrestled slay. this does not mean that i discredit slay, after all, that particular win was not his only claim to fame
btw Satiev is my favorite international wrestler by far...so it really pains me to see him lose to Slay, and I am American! I still like Satiev better.
I wasn't focusing on proper literism. But since you obviously were and still fucked up: Did you mean "you're an idiot."? If you're going to insult someone's intelligence, don't make yourself look stupid in the process.
literism isn't a word, douchebag. you meant literalism (which doesn't even apply in that sentence). and to be fair we both fucked up (mine being a typo). it should have been [did you mean "you're an idiot"? if you're going to insult someone's intelligence, don't make yourself look stupid in the process.] you can't use a period and a question mark in the same sentence, faggot.
ya you are crazy, Saitiev was not in his prime in the 1996 olympics that he won, he was better in 2000 but slay had a outstanding match and may have ony beaten slay 1 out of every 10 times but he got the 1 when it counted. id say saitiev was best at the 2004 olympics. Monday was great but id say Saitiev would beat him 85percent of the time if the wrestled numerous times when they both were at their best

@P9t2r. Yes, Slay was good. But would have liked Saitiev to win. That would have counted as his fourth Olympic gold!
