  • Would raising this breed of chicken be good for an urban enviorment? are they quiet and unflighty? I was considering this breed, barred rock, and golden buff for my backyard. (3 chickens total)

  • @CHICKENS2212 Absolutely! Actually, all three breeds that you referenced are generally calm, docile, quiet birds. Roosters may be a bit noisy, regardless of the breed, but you would do fine with hens.

  • The Egg Cart'n Chicken Tractor is connected to the back of the pen where the run is. The birds have the freedom to go in the coop if they wanted or the grassy area underneath it. We do let them free range during the day and then they go back in the pen at night. You can always use netting on the top of your run to protect them from predators like hawks and eagles during the day. The pen/coop at night is a great way to protect them at night from owls and ground predators too.

  • I really like your pen. Do you have a coop attached to the back or just let the hens roost in the pen? I saw the laying boxes on the side. Also, do you also let them free range? We have some week-old Australorps, but I'm trying to design an area for them to range. We have a lot of predatory birds around here, hawks, owls, some eagles, so I'm concerned about safety from the air as well as on the ground from the raccoons, coyotes, bobcats, and neighbors' dogs.

  • I have 7 of these in my backyard. They are the best birds! Friendly and pretty quiet as long as they are eating. They will even make you laugh with their antics. I let them free range in my yard, and you don't even know they are there unless you are looking for them. I did alot of research before i got them, I highly recommend this breed.

  • very nice :)

  • I bought some blue australorps recently and i live in australia, iv'e had them for 2 weeks and there not exactly the chicken to run up to you unless you have some food :/

  • Yeah I have a one month old Australorp. She's so nice and calm and usually the most friendly of the bunch

  • guarantee best breed for backyard,

  • I liked this breed and I really wanted them. I am so glad these guys did a show on these guys!
