What a difference to feel the true word of wanting to meet that girl you always had a crush on.Something simple with alot of feelings. And she was a real georgia girl, yea and with she walked in to the room I turned to butter
Makes me think of my high school sweetheart - we met in 1965 when she was only 13 yet the thrill is still there - we just celebrated New Years 2011 and she still gives me the "...pounding in my brain..."
I agree TheBabyboomkidof53 , bring '46 vintage myself . . . however there are some really good songs out there these days, you just need a fiesty 19-year old daughter with a good taste in music to keep you up to date! In our day you didn't have to sift through so much stuff.
@PatThePirate2011 could'nt disagree more....nothing today is on a par with music of the 50s,60s,and early 70s. it's all monotone nothingness without harmonies or melodies....sorry .
@TheBabyboomkidof53 you have provided one of the better descriptions of what folks call "music" these days - none of this new stuff is danceable , and what talent is out there is being disguised by too much bass and bad lyrics
@Sterrixlane50 me lucky to like you I was there and wasn't it magical and wonderful and music was uplifting.I enjoyed this time in my life:the memories have not left but most of the peple have.
The first song I ever dared to tell my Mum I fancied one of the singers! Wow - John McNally - I even remember his name! I must have been about 10 or so at the time... Gives me goose bumps to hear it......
Does any one else think the Guitar melody in this is very similar to the Signature tune of CROSSROADS a Sixties early ATV soap based in a Midlands Motel starring Noele Gordon...
@LOKISlog7 I was part of it and this music was the back drop of my life. The time the people and tge music made it a special time to be in.This was a magic time.
@LOKISlog7 it was a time full of wonder and discovery. from great heights to greater heights in rapid sucession. just when you thought it could'nt get better it did.music was the gateway all across the western world and much of the east as well.
I 've wanted to hear this song for a long time, and I finally did!! This is a GREAT tune from the 60's,and the Searchers were certainly one of the best groups of that era! Rock on!
I consider this one of the most underrated songs from the "Mersey Beat" era. This song also has one of the most underrated guitar riffs in rock music.
Jackie DeShannon wrote/had the original version of this song, but as was frequently the case with her songs, someone else had the big hit with it. The guitar riff has to be one of the best in the history of rock and pop.
@mackb909 If I recall right it was Jackie De Shannon who had a boyfriend named . . PJ Proby, hence where he got his name from. Jackie in her own right was a good singer. I have her original song of this on tape somewhere
Dont know who the first picture in the video was of!!! but it certainly isnt The Searchers! (Although Tony Jackson the original bass player did play a Hofner Violin bass around 1963 !) but that aint Tony Jackson!, and certainly NOT The Searchers!!
I'm american and was there for "the british invasion", all those years ago. after the beatles, this was my second favorite group. they came closer to the original sound the beatles started then the stones, dave clark five, animals, did. those are great groups and certinly surpass this one in a number of ways, but where sound is concerned this one has that early liverpool excitement that shook the world. I love their version of jackie de shannon's song. like the beatles they coverd others better.
is it weird that sometimes i get emotional when i listen 2 older songs like this becoz i wasnt born in the late 50's/60's and i missed out on all of this...
just to show you how record charts dont tell the entire story often times, this song was played often and regular around the detroit area in 1964 when I was a teen. its #35 standing was a national rating. but in certin locals it may be a smash! same was true of the hollies look through any window. it was huge where I was from. this is a great sound . the jangling guitar pre-dates the byrds rickenbacker 360e12 string sound. of course george harrison, was doing this before either.
@TheBabyboomkidof53 I was a little tyke then, but I believe that in my hometown of Boston, this song got frequent airplay on the two Top-40 stations of the time, WBZ and WMEX.
@altfactor yea just because it is'nt popular wakefield wyoming,or stevens Iowa, can be meaningless if it's popular in major metro areas like boston, detroit, atlanta, new york city.
Wow ! You really brought back great memories mentioning " Look through any window " because it was a big hit in the metro DC area also, was always a favorite of mine.
Wonderful song!...I remember two italian version titled "LA MIA VOCE" by NEW DADA and the other was "C'E' UNA STRANA ESPRESSIONE" by the ROKES....Formidabili quegli anni!!!
Utterly fantastic. The guitar sound that the Byrds covered years later is so obvious here. Great harmonies and playing. Takes me back to the mid 60's instantly. Great time to be alive as a teenager. Thanks hawkmoon!
I was brought up with sixties music, without the beatles, as dad was and still is a MAJOR shadows fan, and didn't think much of the beatles or elvis for that matter, just a few tracks of theirs here and there, but this and other great songs I remember hearing all the time. And to this day I stil love the guitar rift that plays through this track, a classic.
It looks like you might find one guy this time, and another guy the next time! I reckon that is why we (Americans) love the Beatles......They stuck together!
great vocals and the first instance I know of the kind of guitar work that the Byrds would claim as their own so it sets the stage for folk rock. I'd have to check the dates but I think that maybe the Beatles had this kind of sound in Hard Day's Night.
@novapup2001 when the Beatles were going around auditioning and no one would sign them, one producer told Brian Epstein "groups with guitars are on the way out"...yep the Beatles were way out, alright...that producer should have had a career in banking, law or politics for being so talentless and missing legal profitable opportunity...yeah, yeah, yeah...YEAH !!!
@ITILII joe meek was another one he said the mersey sound is rubbish another extreme was the music professor wilfred mellers that analised beatle songs like this melody begins in the dorian mode and modulates to the lydian mode people thought he was out of his mind but he was correct
Not of the Searchers at that time. At least I haven't found it. There is a video of a modern line up doing it. There is an old video ofthe composer, Jackie De Shannon, performing it.
Words can't even describe how much I love this song.
