The things Price needs to work are on:

1) His focus

2) His menal strength

3) His glove hand (it's good, NOT great)

But everything else he does is better than Halak's. This is why Gainey and Martin have more faith in his abilities than Halak.

When Halak plays against above 0.500 teams, he lets in SEVERAL GOALS (see performances against New York, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, etc).

A lot of the saves Price makes look so easy because he is such a big, technical goalie.

Gainey is hoping a GM is stupid enough to think Halak is a #1 goalie and will overpay. He is a BACK-UP.

Price has bigger size, better lateral movement, a better blocker side, better rebound control and can dominate against top teams. He is the better technical goalie and performs better against top teams (see performances vs Pitts, Bos, Buffalo, Wsh)

FuturePBABowler, you are wrong. Halak has a losing record against above 0.500 teams. In fact, Halak's only win was the first against New York when Cammy scored a hat trick in OT. Halak still let in 4 goals in regulation that game, which is terrible.

Tonight, Halak let in 6 goals in regulation against that same playoff team. There is a reason why Martin continually gives Price the big assignments (Wsh, Pitts, Bos, etc) because he does NOT have faith in Halak against better teams.

Some of the negative comments here about Price are just ridiculous. If you are a Canadiens fan and have followed THIS season, you'd know that Price has LITERALLY STOLEN games for them. Without Price, they would be in the bottom of the standings!!

Montreal isn't exactly a good defensive team, with all those slow veterans on the back-end and Price faces 35-40+ shots on a regular basis. If he were playing in Chicago or a real cup contender, his save % would be even better.

I agree with the comments that the Montreal fans have just been awful. I have never understood booing, even as a Yankees fan in my youth. Booing is for things you extremely disapprove of, but not effort. I rarely boo my Coyotes (who obviously are not good) because they really try. We might yell "come on pick up the pass!" Eric Desjardins said it best after he and John Leclair got traded to Philly "Montreal is the Siberia of hockey".
