  • its about suicide but i dig it i really do lol

  • Could someone please read the lyrics and tell me what the fuck they mean- im so confused

  • @LyricsArFun This song is obviously about suicide

  • That's absolutely true. Damnation is also good to listen to it especially on weekends at night with other kindred souls. I don't know if you see what I'm trying to picture: At night with almost no lights; only with a "campfire", just darkly awesome.

  • The entire album is perfect. Dark and beautiful at the same time. A masterpiece nxt to Damnation Album.

  • @TheMetalReaper7 True, but I like to go to sleep with damnation on cos I know I'm not going to be suddenly woken

  • this song is a 10/10, but it drags alitttleeeeeee too much in the middle, if they cut out like 5 seconds, this song would literally be perfect, but its all good

  • Personally, favourite Opeth album (and song)...breathtaking

  • La Musica de Opeth es magica y sin lugar a dudas y en personal, una de las mejores bandas que he escuchado...

  • I could quite happily die to this song.

  • @vanutra Than you would no longer hear Opeth

  • @temptstress666 yes you would... in heaven...

  • @vanutra you know so could i actually

  • @mikenmolly lol you posted the same comment 3 times...

  • It was 101 degrees in my backyard at 3:00 PM. Now, at 9:15, it's dropped to a freezing 87 degrees. Why do I hate summer? Opeth, play me out....

  • To the people who clicked dislike, you should puncture your eardrums with golf tees. No sense in having a sense of hearing if you don't know how to use it.

  • blackwater park is one of the best albums ever made imo, so fuckin epic. Opeth forever \m/ <3

  • Really beautiful song. + I can't stop playing the intro xD

  • One of the things i have always loved about this song is mikaelakerfeldt's vocals right at the beginning. they are pretty much some of the most beautifully sung vocals ive ever heard. and the song that follows is magnificent to say the least:)

  • I looove the beginning of the song, after that it gets kinda boring for me until the end. but the beginning is so amazing!

  • I have trouble listening to Opeth for more than sixty seconds at time. Every time I hear them I get inspired and have to go pick up my guitar.

  • usually don't listen to this kinda music, but this is beautiful. love the tune and melody of it all

  • gone... here is nooooowhere

  • beautiful... simply beatiful

  • suicide

  • @Progmandrake get over your self

  • the melodys are more prolonged then you see i typical metal music were there are more short repetion based riffs.. on the other hand opeth tend to create melodies stretching over 4 bars typical ending with a different tail-riff.. That is why i think the melodys are much more involved and interesting then when limited to 1 bar or shorter ... (good example is the hessian peel riff after the solo... )

  • i love insane manic happiness.

i love dark melancholic isolation and sadness.

  • great intro & outro

  • it's amazing. Opeth is my most favourite band of the world. Them songs are so epic, sad, and too long. I Love them songs. ..are too sweet..

..and them guitar passages from hard to light and inversely.. ^^

  • this "burden" and "to bid you farewell" are my favorite songs by opeth. something this great can only come from the Scandinavian countries.

  • ahh, the first song i heard from opeth. i know how to play this whole song too. :D

  • No you dont, you cant do it with just one guitar

  • I'm so lucky, I saw these guys live! But without Martin on drums :(

  • Opeth aaare simply, fucking, amazing...

  • Dude, this is the first song I've ever got 4 chills in a row consecutively... 1:48 - 3:31.

  • Doesn't that feel great? It's like an aural orgasm, I kept getting them while I was listening through Watershed last night, haha.

  • just based upon their musicianship and range, opeth is one of the best bands ever to be formed.

  • Am I the only one who finds the guitar melody that begins at 2:47 absolutely beautiful?

  • probably not...

  • Who doesn't? Very beautiful.

  • I rewind to it about 29 times every time it finishes :) soooo beautiful, beyond beautiful, graceful as well.

  • I do the same thing! Opeth are so talented! It's awesome the way they weave together such beautiful melodies.

  • ow yes especially when the counter melody kicks in!

  • hey could you elaborate on that 'counter melody' business abit...cuz i always felt there was something about this song, when the vocals kick in the rhythm goes off in a 'perpendicular' direction. got any music theory insight on that ? thanks

avid music theory and opeth fan

  • @untitledundefined i think this song its pretty much the recipe for awesomeness they apply in many of there songs. .. the middle part with vocals there are harmony guitars, they mix up chords in such a way without respect to any musical theory.. but the chords themselves are very theoretical and "pro" alike, intro and ending are Am and heavy part is Dm ....

  • thanks man :)

  • @untitledundefined Typical trade mark riff is 1 guitar playing melody and one starting up with the melody and progress to the low end ... it gives a very dramatic feeling i think (april ethereal) For trade mark chord i would say Diminished .... like in heir apparent and the Am-add9 chord, its all over the place especially blackwater park

  • krása...

  • this song is awesome...i get some melancholic when i play it on my GG... xDD

  • I can't express how much beautiful this song is.

It makes me feel bad,yet so good.

Music that comes from the core of the soul, and speaks to the core of YOUR soul.

This is by far THE BEST expression of sorrow and longing for peace I've ever heard.

I'm always amazed by Mikael's talent. My biggest Idol.

  • i read on some website that tracks 5 &8(i.e dirge for november & blackwater park) was written by peter lindgren.but i m not 100% sure.

  • @StealerAG true but Mikael has some evil growls that i love. i like the calm part of Opeth too. just not quite as much as their Death metal stuff.

  • Wonderful song!

Yes, this song is dark and talks about suicide... does this make Opeth an Emo band?? NO!!

I love them and everything they do! thanks for the post!

  • The mix between the instruments and Mikael's growl in this song is simply perfect.

  • This summarises so many different things in my life.

  • Like what buddy?

  • Opeth is really amazing. Each instrument adds to the song, creating a whole different world. That's why I like Opeth. Their songs take me away from this world and, ironically, give me this peace of mind.

  • Really?

  • my fav opeth song

  • Really?

  • When the song was over...I wasn't sure whether my heart was beating slow, or fast, that was amazing.

  • that was a great one Shen, gotta love how these people get extremely offended over something written on youtube.

    well played.

  • Lol I'm j/k I actully fucking love Opeth been listening to em ever since my friend showed me this cd like 6 years ago. I was just really high and wanted to start fsome shit :D Ya'll need to not get so offended when someone insults something you like. It's just the internet after all...

  • lol Shen, by the way you type you clearly must listen to rap or pop so...you must not be able to understand the sheer talent it takes to write and perform music of this caliber. gtfo.

  • Damn Opeth's heavy constant parts (This, April Ethereal, Demon of the Fall) are so full of sorrow, makes me feel sad inside... :( So beautiful, but sorrow...

  • Learn how to spell, dude.

  • maybe this insult would hold more weight if it was spelled correctly. what a prick!

  • you are an ignorant retch

  • Comment removed

  • you spelled wretch wrong you illiterate moron.

  • Comment removed

  • I love the darkness of the lyrics.

    Opeth Rules!

  • One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Blackwater park really is a great album.

  • Agreed 100%

  • Another very underestimated song. The clean parts at the beginning and at the end are wonderful, as the heavyest part in the middle, which comes out as a terrible, continous sigh... Sure this and Still Life are Opeth's best albums, at least the best representative of their "classical" and "typical" style.

  • Still Lidfe's story-thread is just... Really interesting, definately in one of my top 10 albums....

  • Man, i've only seen them live... twice? hmm... Once at... Proganation, and once with High on Fire and Baroness. (btw, Dream Theater, great band. But i didn't like them live.)

  • Sounds pretty good, not usually into the death stuff but this is different somehow, probably because it isn't pure death, I love the melodic parts

  • This is a very good song, I love opeth. ^^

  • OMG

the first 4 mins are fking awesome really touching , esp the solo started @ 2:18

    love opeth!

  • Opeth r fukin demonz.....i love'em

  • i fucken love opeth!! omg there amazing

  • Nice :D
