Man I really wish I could get private lessons from you. You're a great violinst, but more importantly you seem like a good teacher too. You have a great way of explaining things so anyone can understand them. I've only been playing violin for about a month now, and I've made massive progress thanks to your videos.
Thank you. Your lessons are direct, your comments are clear and you get to the heart of the matter. It is helpful between lessons to view your videos. I think you are doing more for me than my teacher is.
Thank you SOOOO much! I am in the process of playing the violin once more. I dug it up and am wanting to play it again. Thank you so much for your kind service! Thank you very much!
Thank you so much!!!!!!!! I am from Costa Rica and I am just starting, haven´t got a teacher yet but in the meanwhile these videos have been so helpful!! again THANK YOU!!!!
WOW!!!u really gotta be selfless to do so much service to anyone in the world who is willing to learn...I mean you post the most brilliant online violin videos FREE of cost with such detailed explanation and likely errors that beginners might make...
I mean just imagine the number of ppl who might have been benifitted by these!
you professor v are an absolute, LEGEND, thanks for all these amazing, video's, i started watching these outta curisoity, than then decided to buy a violin:L. thanks alot
you r great person .. what makes u recored ALL of these lessons and put them online just like this without any benift ??!! i think this is a great thing to do ... I loved ur way of teaching ...
im egyption by the way and it's really wonderful to take my frist lessons form u
wait im just learning to play and im iin an advanced class and my teacher doesnt care so hes all like play e and a and i dont know how to play anything i dont understand which strings are a or e or whatever
I have no idea why this is, but your violin sounds much higher in tones then mine does, even though i have bought a violin tuner and set it to EADG. My violin is a cheap one, of 70 euro's, and the strings acompanied are of course very cheap also.. Would this be a reason, it would seem weird to me, because tones are tones, irrelevant to the quality right?
Ah.. I found the cause to my problem, it was due to a misplaced bridge, i had the higher point of the bridge at my E string, instead of the G string. Also the placement needed some correction.. Much better now.. thanks ALLOT for all your great advice and explanations in your video's, i have never seen someone explain anything this detailed and clear. Every video of yours that i watch still suprises in your ability to teach and explain, even through this medium. Greetings from Holland!
Sorry if this is redundant, maybe I misunderstood, you tune it to eadg? The tuning is gdae. Or maybe you wanted to say you tune it at 440.
That said and discarded, the quality is relevant, I personally recomend breton`s strings, they respond real welll and the tension at least for me it`s just perfect.
Anyway, all depends on what kind of tone you want to achieve.
Actually I think ProfV have a series that deals about tone production, I love his way of teaching ^^.

professor, i really wanted to learn violin.. your videos really help!! but there's this one question i have. the violin does not have any fret, how could i actually know what to press? please tell me.. T.T i really want to know.. where can i find D? or G? or the others as well?
You know what to press just by listening to it! You can clearly tell if you're in tune or not - just practice all types of scales! Your lowest string is a G, than you have a D, A and E. Your fourth finger on every string should equal your next higher string (hard to explain). I don't know about your "music-reading-skills" but with the knowledge of the tuning of your strings you should be able to figure out where to find which note! May you should start of with a G-major scale: stroke your seco
nd to last string (sorry - I meant the last string - I've been playing the viola for too long know...), then put your first finger on that string, third (close to second) , fourth (check if it's the same sound as the next string), go to first on the d string second (further apart - cause this is a f sharp), and third. Now go back again - until it's fluent! Just always listen carefully - you should be able to tell when you're in tune!
i just have to say, thank you for the lessons, i got some great start up with you, right now im practicing my self, just playing random stuff just to get familiar with the strings and playing the violin. later on, ill try to play musical pieces.
Professor, do you use the pink when you change strings using the nut? And when you set your bow near the bridge (for E and A strings) and put it between the bridge and the fingerboard (for G string) do you use you pink and the Index Finger? Can you teach how to do it?

I noticed that your bow hair was let loose, would that bow better?

I am also trying to learn this piece. I just can't get the crossing right. But thx for the tip there.
By the way, for beginners who are learning to play the violin, where should their eyes be focusing on? The strings or the fingers?

Yes, I do use the pinky. I am planning to finish my series on string crossings and discuss finger motion in it. Thanks.
