I think the primary difference is McCain was mid 20s when he "didn't love America," and learned just how great a country the United States is by his captivity. I think the primary difference is McCain was mid 20s when he "didn't love America," and learned just how great a country the United States is by his captivity. He obviously isn't implying he disliked America before his captivity, only that he didn't learn to really love America until then. Taxes were only ment to be for inforstructure and defense when they were first started. Now look at them.... The crodies in Wash.DC are taking kick backs, pay offs, and waisting OUR money. That is both Dems and Reps. One of Obamas talking heads already came out and said that a family will be taxed more if they make over 250 thou., and a single person will be at 200 thou.. That sounds to me like they are already lowering it, and that is before he is Pres. Imagine what will happen after....

Take things in context. The emphasis on the statement is the word "really". He did't say he didn't love america, but put emphasis on "really" as in he didn't realize how much he loved America until he was deprived of her company. Basically he admitted he took America for granted as so many of us do. I have traveled to Europe and didn't "really" realize how great we have it here until being away. This is just another controversy based on spinning words, yes it goes both ways.

This is a disgusting individual. McCain is talking about degrees of his love. He is talking about love of country. He is not saying he did not love his country he is saying he did not get what real love is. Many of us are that way. We do not realize what we have until we lose it.
Michelle Obama's words were not in that context. They were meant as shame and disgust. ONLY until we elect a black president can she be proud. That apparently is the barometer she uses to be proud.

She is NOT using pride in the same context as Mr. McCain, she has never been in the military, never suffered for her country, and never been tortured for her country. She did not turn down freedom so she could not be used as a PR ploy in the war. Her comments may or may not be disgusting depending on what she meant but the video is DISGUSTING in its implication that was my point. Her sentiment was that she could only be proud now that her husband was running.

Agree with the first part of your comment, but take issue with the latter. We are a great nation that has stood up to terror and taken out a man who would have found a way to attack this country if left alone. Sadam Hussein made enough money thanks to Khofi Anan's son that he could buy just about anything he wanted on the black market. Of course McCain's statement was harmless. That's the point. Michelle Obama made an almost identical innocuous statement and was smeared by McCain's camp for it.
If the point of the clip was to paint McCain as "unpatriotic" then you would be right that it is a weak critique. But the point of clips like this is to show how absurd and hypocritical it is for McCain's campaign to paint Obama and his wife as unpatriotic. And as such, it is a very effective critique.

McCain is a hyporcit and I can site another example- calling for less government but wanting to legalize abortion. Here's another example- spending his entire career championing for less regulations and then stating that the reason for the disaster is because of less regulation. He's suddenly for deregulation. Another example- he was for the war, then against the war, then for it. Flip flopping indicates that you don't have any clue what the correct policies and solutions should be.

They are both equally harmless statements, but Michelle Obama's words were chastised for being "unpatriotic". If her statement is a litmus test for lack of patriotism, then McCain's statement should be chastised for being unpatriotic as well. Since neither statement was unpatriotic, neither one should be chastised. You can't pick and choose, Fox News.
