  • federer has something on his right leg, maybe a brace??

  • return at 3:57

  • I'm Federer fan, but I should say: all his behavior because of his ankle was as if he said "will be one of the most unlikely results of history, what can I do?". Today Federer has defeated Nalbandian many times and Nalbandian has defeated Federer the same number of times. Because of the behavior from Federer in this match from there on it was as if Nalbandian said, "ok, you're Roger Federer, probably the best tennis player of all... But I'll show you who I am."

  • 6:59, whoever disses slice shots is a moron, enough said.

  • @kelman221 this shot was fucking incredible !

  • yes, federers movement was not 100%, but I can't remember a time where I've seen him hit the ball so cleanly. I think the way nalbandian hits the ball makes it perfect for both of them to play just clean, sexy tennis

  • This is pretty close to God Mode vs God Mode.

  • "Federer with just a beautiful DROPPA!" lol

  • The problem is that Nalbandian loves the party the same o more than the tennis... :)

  • I miss seeing fast hardcourts like this. Its a shame really the current state of the game.

  • I just choked at 7:05

  • this court was fast :)

  • can't understand how Nalbandian didnt won any Grand Slam !! really he is a very very good player

  • I would say they enjoy the game.

  • If has Nalbandian good day he can beat everyone.

  • Hmmm. I thought Federer had never lost a match after going two sets up? I guess that was only Grand Slams.

  • in my opinion one of the best 10 matches of last 10 years.

    they are my favourites players

  • The two most beautiful tennis strokes on circuit in my opinion.

  • Except Fed, I like Nalbandian forehand, backhand, serve. They look comfortable, gentle, after Fed :D.

    I love seeing Fed-Nal rivalry rather than Fed-Nad T.T

  • how can there be 2 dislikes to one of the best tennis matches ever??

    just don´t get it...

  • my no. 1 favourite non-GS match of all time

  • the 5 set format was changed for later master's

  • nalbandian n nadal r like federer's greatest weaknesses

  • tony roche looks like herbert from family guy ..lol

  • nalbandian is a great player i was analyzing some videos he has excellents strokes

always going to the corner .... buuuttttt

we can't compare Federer is just perfection

  • maybe federer was injured before the tournament.. but nalbandian was FISHING with his friends before he was called up for shangai.. he want even prepared for the tournament

  • it's a shame (and an anomaly) that nalbandian never won a slam.

  • @xridethelightningx He is a top player, that's what matters.

  • @xridethelightningx mostly because Nalbandian didn;t commit himself to be a number 1. If that was his goal, he could have been up there with Roger as his archirival for the throne. He chose to do other activities instead of dedicating his whole career to tennis.

  • @xridethelightningx I completely agree, but he doesn't have to win a slam for people to know of his awesomeness :). Nalbandian is a great player.

  • @xridethelightningx the most talented player who has not won a slam (with Marcelo Rios) (IMO)

  • The crowd couldn't believe what they were seeing.

  • why do they always say DROPPER so weird??

  • @John11inch it is 2004 ATP finals. well, I don't know

  • @John11inch though I am Roger's fan. It is Roger generation's fan to be precise. Roger. David. Marat. Canas.etc. David in this finals was too great. It was the maximum peak of his career. Roger was great play too. But, Roger was not a condition of the best. Roger was injured in the latter half of the season of 2005. He cut the Achilles' tendon of the foot. It is fact. Actually, He have a lot of slump. mono.disease of lungs. Injury of chronic of back or waist.etc. Now, his age. family and kids

  • @John11inch I don't know. Why person always say, like a Roger's best. He is true greatest player. But, Roger also just human. everyone have alot of slump.

  • yeah nalbandian is one of the best players to never win a slam. On his day he'll hang with anyone. A bit of a shame

  • Was fed injured in this match cos he looks like he's moving pretty slow?

  • @TJFederer15 Not to take anything away from Nalbandian who was in the absolute zone but yes Roger was coming back to injury. Prior to this tournament he was on crutches for four weeks and couldn't practice one bit until he arrived in Shanghai. Clearly his stamina was badly affected because if a professional athlete turns inactive for just two weeks, especially an intense sport like tennis, your stamina will begin to degrade, let alone 4 weeks.

  • @GyariSan Don't forget that Nalbandian also didn't have any practice prior to this event. He was on vacation fishing in Argentina when he received a call to come to Shanghai.

  • @GyariSan Well, of course. Everytime Federer loses there is a completely valid excuse for why he lost. There is an old saying from the legends of Aussie tennis back in the glory days "I've never beaten him when he's healthy." That sums up Federer. Evyertime he loses there is an excuse.

  • @VerdascoFan It's a fact people know of that he twisted his ankle badly prior to this event, something Federer never brought up himself even after the lost of this event.

  • @GyariSan No. He milked it. It was nowhere near as bad as he made it out to be.

  • @VerdascoFan Nah

  • @GyariSan lol u know nothing...

  • @VerdascoFan no thats nadal

  • @ichoserapture1 Pardon me...?

  • @GyariSan

yes your right that just shows how good federer is bbut nalbandian also beaten him on other occasions when federer has played some of his best tennis, in my opinion i believe these two have some of the best and most exciting matches out there because there such talented shot makers

  • @GyariSan so you mean Federer should have won the match?

  • @ElectricanMV No. Nalbandian could have beaten anybody on that day. Federer's stamina may have not been 100% but even if injury free he would need to bring his absolute best tennis to beat this Nalbandian.

  • @GyariSan Ok, Nalbandian was on vacation and was called at the last minute to fly to Shangai and play this tournament for another player´s injury, so both players weren´t at their best conditions for this masters cup, but i think their tennis grew during the matches and both guys ended up playing their best at this final.

  • @GyariSan boohoo frickity hoo, Nalbandian outplayed him in the end

  • @StewNWT He did

  • @TJFederer15 nope... this is how nalbandian can play

  • @AceGuitarR7 - yes i know how nalby can play but fed clearly went away physically and mentally in the 3rd, 4th and most of the 5th set and looked to be moving extremely slow. Yer i forgot he sprained his ankle whilst practicing basel didn't he and had to withdraw from basel, paris and madrid so clearly affected him here.

  • hi listhename, yeah that website comes from the argentinian newspaper el clarin, its a good and trustful source. In that interview federer said that nalbandian lost his chances to be the numer one. because he lost many matches, that he had to win.

    edant.clarin.com/diario/2007/03/19/um/m-01383515.htm

  • @Luchon20082010 is true that,i'm from argentina,yo escuche eso del clarin,

  • Nalbandian's backhand great as always, but his backhand crosscourt serve returns are just out of this world!

  • was fed hurt?

  • It is a shame for Fed that he had 2 win 3 sets cos for the last 2 years it has been won in 2 sets & he was 2 sets up.

  • Imagine if Nalbandian goes through to the semis or final in USO and those two meet again in a fivesetters! Could be as exiting as if he meets Nadal, even more maybe cause Fed has a tendency to make more UE against Nadal and both are known to be some of the best in the field to hit insane winners! These two are a better match up than Fed and Nadal imo, Nadal usually wins on hard and grass since 2008, and on clay it´s usually a nice two or threesets to Nadal.

  • Nalbandian is the most irregular player in the tennis history. If he could play like this all the time, he would be without any doubts, the number 1. Federer once said it. But, that doesnt matter now, what does matter is that Federer didnt get the if, he actually did it. Thats why he is the best in history.

  • @Luchon20082010 Hi

your comment is interesting.Where is the interview where Federer said it?

    THX

  • in argentina we think that if nalbandian just be more consistent probably he would be number one in those years

  • A mi parecer, uno de los mas grandes partidos de la era moderna del tenis, por la calidad de los puntos, y el talento de ambos jugadores. Lo que jugó Nalbandian acá fue impresionante!

  • awesome match

  • Roger is the classic greatest. Love Roger

  • @federerbestclass And you are the classic GAY. Hate you

  • Roger was sickness in 2008 and 2009 (mono) in 2010(, pneumonia) Roger was injury. back and waist. cut Achilles' tendon( 2005or 2006)

  • @federerbestclass Bullshit

  • Also no more slam title for fed. Now the king is back to his old trick. Just destroy fed today, even when he didn't play his best. Still able to beat him in straight sets at the madrid final. Next stop the FO and then wimble.

  • David Nalbandian took revenge for Gaudio after the humiliation he suffered at the hands of Roger. It was his way of bringing back some honour to the argentinians. Massive win for him... See the match titled federer vs Gaudio where roger won by 6-0, 6-0.

  • insane level!

  • At 2:54, does patrick macnroe have a little tic from his tourrettes lol

  • @Jamus182 mcenroe!!! lol

  • best match i have ever seen...

  • Comment removed

  • Federer lost to Nalbandian like 3 times in 2003 though and never won until the final event of 2003.

  • @federerbestclass Twice he won it back to back. Everytime he is going for 3 times in a row somebody beats him. I think had it not been for injuries to nalbandian over the yrs, maybe he could a slow down roger slams. I mean this guy had talent, he just had a bunch of injuries over the yrs. He has the game to play roger, but with injuries he is not consistence like he should be. He should of had several slam titles by now.

  • @Thutmosis7 Roger has the chronic injury since young time. Injury of back and waist. And, sickness several times. mono and pneumonia, etc. This time might be after Achilles' tendon with the foot is cut. ( Roger in 2005 or 2006). Though it doesn't remember accurately some time.

Roger's rival is always said the injury etc. Roger experiences the sickness and the injury many times.

  • @federerbestclass I am tired of hearing this mono thing. It doesn't last for yrs. It's a thing that's out of your system in few weeks. Federer have never been injury. Nadal injury is more career threaten than federer lil mono. He had back spasm. Anybody can get that and play still good. But in all of federer losses he was 100% his best. In some of nadal's he was and wasn't.

  • @Thutmosis7 I am writing the fact. The mono is serious sickness. It is not a curable illness in several months. Roger and Ancic became the sickness of the mono. Ancic became impossible to come back. took one year or more so that Roger might recover. pneumonia this year.

Injury of chronic. waist and back. Roger cut the Achilles' tendon of the foot in the past. All tennis players are experiencing the injury. All players. That much.

  • @federerbestclass You're talking bullcrap. Roger never had any serious injury or illness. Mono is out of your system in few weeks. I know the sickness. It doesn't last for a yr. That's a bunch of crap. Fed couldnt beat any of the playas of the 90's in their prime. Fed is just an average playa of his generation. He just have more below average playas other than nadal in his field of tennis.

  • @Thutmosis7 ha?

  • @Thutmosis7 Isn't it a serious sickness and injury? Why is it understood? Have you gotten the thing and pneumonia? sport player cut Achilles' tendon. Do you understand what it is? You do not understand. The Roger's sickness and injury are not serious. But, Other players' mono, pneumonia, and injuriesIt is serious. LOL

  • @federerbestclass Bullshit

  • 5:55

    Amazing .. !

  • Nalbandian is of course well known for his down the line backhand pass, but his forehand down the line is oft overlooked.

  • Nalbandian has one of the best looking two handed backhands. along with verdasco. and federer has the best looking one hander

  • Nalbandian is the best, he just want to show it when he wants to

  • Federer lose this game because of his ridiculous outfit. It looks like the cow costume from the movie "Top Secret"

  • these two and davydenko are the craziest ones who hit the ball so early!!! The match explodes when you combine them in a match @_@

  • nalbandian a un nivel superlativo

  • I think in this match, Federer was getting sore with his ankle affecting his play so he didnt give the 4th set his best to allow him to save it for the 5th set. He was down 0 - 4 in the 5th set though and nearly knocked off Nalbandian when he made his comeback. It was his first 5 set match with the injury in a long time. All the other matches in the Masters that year were finished pretty quickly.

  • the ankle is the only real injury roger has suffered in his career really isnt it?

  • he has a back injury which comes back every now and then. he doesnt injure it very often though because of the style he plays. no twists etc putting it out. very fluent with his shots and movement around the court.

  • n-coded 90 six one tour

  • federer's raquet looks diffrent. what model was federer using in this match???

and... great tennis i like both of them

  • Sencillamente E S P E C T A C U L A R !!!!

Uno de los mejores partidos que vi

  • this match is the best you'll ever see Nalbandian play lol. He was simply in the zone. AMAZING shots splattering all over. Federer could do nothing in the 3rd and 4th set. The 5th was exciting because Federer started to have jelly legs and was down 4-1. Nalbandian had a bit of a lapse and Fed took his chance to catch up even to serve for the match. But Nalbandian broke back to win the tie break. Stunning play from Nalbandian.

  • he wins the first 2 sets and lose the match! Roger, roger...

  • come on give the guy a break lol he was injuried (and nalby was playing something sick) after the match he said he could barely walk but yer know nably deserved it (fed fan here)

  • Yep, I know but he made the most difficult thing: losing 2 sets and play a 5th just to blow even more his legs!

Anyway David deserved it because he played really well!

  • how did he do it?

  • I cant believe how awesome this match was from both players. They were just exchanging brilliant shots. Nalbandian was always one of few players that I always worried about when he played Federer, cuz he had the ability to totally challenge and even at times out play Federer.

  • Oh yeah, and Nalbandian's ability to flatten out his game is what got him to the Wimbledon final in 2002 and why he plays pretty well on grass.

  • What I love about Nalbandian is that he can flatten out the ball so well, as well as hit with good topspin. That's Roger is really good at doing. He knows when to play the right shot whether it needs to be flat for a winner or with top spin for control. Players like Roddick hit the same way every shot. Roddick hits every shot with loopy top spin. I don't know why.

  • federer play very well but nalbandian was unbeatable. david was at his best.

  • I dislike patrick mcenroe

  • @rockerduff1231 he is the best commentator

  • 6:50 forehand, wow

  • The Point at 6:52 is technically brilliant.

  • federer wan not at his best!

  • One of the best matches of all time..

  • great vid man, thanks :)

  • great ONE!! dude a favor, don't you have this for download on its original format and quality. it just that is too cool to watch it only on youtube

  • i love nalbandians ground strokes there just ....

    speachless

  • lol 3:09 and 4:41

    great match.

  • superb

  • GREAT MATCH!!!

  • what a great game, bravo

  • i love Nalbandian

  • LOve-Lovely!! OMG! This was amazing i really like every point and ball of the match!

  • wow.... an old highlight like this still makes me excited... one word, wow... i wonder' how is the 2005 federer compares to the federer now.
