No amount of special effects today can equal the mysterious atmosphere set in this film or the brilliant performance of the great Boris Karloff. 6/8, 5/7 who cares it is a treat to see this. Thank you. One day this fascist bureaucracy will end and you will be able to post anything.
@MrKatzenellenbogen No, I've tried uploading the missing parts twice now, and been denied due to copyright infringement. Once more and I could lose this channel. I agree that it seems very pointless to upload six eighths of a movie, and I considered just removing the whole thing. However, it still continues to get views, and I hope that the people who come here will take the time to read the description above which tells where they can watch the whole movie online for free.
@ysbaddaden2003 Actress Zita Johann was a firm believer in reincarnation and was offended that the Hays Office removed many of the reincarnation scenes (including the one with the Anglo-Saxon warrior listed in the opening credits).
I'd be interested in your source. Zita Johann is a hard figure to research. I had noticed the credits for the Anglo Saxon warrior, but always presumed he was part of the Queen Ankhesenamun's funeral cortège, but didn't know why he was credited if he was just an extra.
Johann had a cat-like grace, and seemed like an early version of Barbara Steele. And when she gets into the cab in a trance, she rattles of the museum's French name as if it were no effort to her at all.
@ysbaddaden2003 When the girl in a trance tells the cab driver where to go,the first word she says is difficult to catch but I think it is "pour" which
would be wrong, then more clearly she says "la musée des antiquités". Musée
looks feminine but is in fact masculine, so she should have said "au musée des antiquités".
@ThePinipedsBrother She was very ethereal, wasn't she? There could be no actress better suited to this role. her looks, her voice, her perfect accent, she was wonderful.

Any opinion on the 1999 remake?

The cartouche actually appears to be that of Akhenaten but then I suppose he was an "Amenophis" of sorts.

This movie was really an oddball.
The first one directed by cameraman Karl Freund.
And although essentially a rip-off of Dracula and Frankenstein
The occultic expert was the good guy, in later Mummy movies it would be a high priest bad guy.
The power of the ancient Gods were taken for granted.
And they spoke of reincarnation as if it were a common idea, worthy of being taken seriously.
And even ended with the heroine having to rescue herself...

@ysbaddaden2003 I can't swear to it, but I may have read about her in 'Complicated Women' by Mick Lasalle.

@ysbaddaden2003 Reincarnation is still a common idea and belief and is taken seriously by more people throughout the world than Christianity.
