  • One thing I love about Donald Fagen (and Walter Becker) is that he thinks outside the box: "Any world that I'm welcome to"...." and "Any matter world that falls apart surely comes together again--any Major Dude will tell you." Priceless lyrics. You just don't find this anywhere else in the music world. The guy is just amazing.

  • me too

  • Hey "jorlev" . . . great video!! That took some effort, eh?! (Justice done) How about another?

    Best wishes . . . Chris.

  • ♫♪ If I had my way

I would move to another lifetime

    I'd quit my job

Ride the train through the misty nighttime

I'll be ready when my feet touch ground

    Wherever I come down

And if the folks will have me

    Then they'll have me...♫♪

  • So few views. Ugh

  • You just gotta love the back-up vocals from Michael McDonald. Nobody else could do a better job than Michael. KUDOS!!!

  • Great job of finding images that make sense of the lyrics! Will post this on my blog today -- hope that's alright. "HealthyPlanetDiet"

  • I'm ALWAYS in the mood for this music.

  • @MrAmericanaSam I'm Gonna Hit On Your Favorite Videos Link!..my stage Fox!Rock'sCzar!

  • Well done, thank you from a Cold War college boy....

  • Bravo!

  • You have done justice to this piece of art!

  • A well thought out video. What a song! :-)

  • I only know I must obey this feeling I can't explain away.

  • "Is better than the one I come from." My favorite lyrics in this song. Nice video.

  • You certainly did do it justice, it's an excellent fan video. I grew up with this song in the 70s, my dad was a Dan fan. Right back from the age of 4 or 5 I identified with these lyrics. I imagined voluntarily leaving this word for a better one... and I still do.

  • i like how ya can hear mike for one of the first times

  • nice illustration on the video jorlev150 - considering that Fagan recorded that song in 1975 - its been 36 long years since then, but he's still lives there.

  • Nice work friend.

  • Very nice work! A song well deserving of your efforts.

  • PREVENT

  • This song is too personal for me, the lyrics is about my life..thanks donald and walt and mike mc d too...nice back up vocals....

  • i love mcdonald on this song

  • I've been so ready to embrace any world...and it shall be music.

  • I think you did a FANTASTIC job on the video. I enjoyed it very much. Do not listen to naysayers who have never made a video or uploaded "anything", but follow your vision, which you did. Good job!

  • Michael M makes this song absolutely great.

  • I love this! THANKS YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING IT!

  • ...love this video (and this song) and I've watched it many times now.

  • The guy from the Clash said: You're only as good as your drummer. In this case the drummer was the legendary Hal Blaine (Pet Sounds, Good Vibrations, etc...) so there you go.

  • @YearOfCam Well put!

  • Great video! Great song! Thanks jorlev150!!

  • STEELY・DANの最高アルバム"嘘つきケイティー"からの、相変わらず妖しげな魅力のアレンジ"ANY・WORLD"~ハル・ブレインのオカズ満載!

  • as a decades long admirer of the day, i say you give em good props:-D

  • NICE!!! I love Steely dan and my city. even shots of flushing meadow park. :)

  • I really enjoyed that video. Well done!

  • Very artistically done on the video, my Friend. Excellent job.

  • The song that will be played at my wake.

  • i actually appreciate the literal videos as well as the nebulous ones. after all, it's just one person's interpretation of the song. we all interpret things differently.

  • Great job !

  • Awesome tune...I can only describe the guitar as molten

  • i like this video :) nyc, i like the central park shots :)

  • Only 18,853 views?

I expected to just click on to something else, but this is really good.

  • I think of atom bombs, when I hear this... The message in the words of this song evokes all kinds of images, those we don't want and those we do. The contrast is what contributes to the richness of this song. :-)

  • Yes, I too think it's a song of contrasting imagery.

If you want straight-up bleak, try "King of the World."

  • @jorlev150 Nice job. Kudos from a member of the DGA. Keep at it.

  • do we relly think of atom bombs when we listen to this track. i love this music. never think of war and horrible things we do to each other when i listen to Steelydan. i find this music uplifting.

  • do we relly think of atom bombs when we listen to this track. i love this music. never think of war and horrible things we do to each other when i listen to Steelydan. i find this uplifting.

  • good job

  • googd job

  • you did great.I like this.itS perfect

  • I LOVE Steely Dan - love em...

the lyrics are sad... has Donald given up? (he'd be forgiven for doing so!)

but... faith, hope & love... (the greatest being love)... and God...

yah I'm a follower of Jesus!

  • @agapefriend04 I read somewhere that Donald was always a little self-conscious about his appearance and this insecurity manifested itself in some of his lyrics (Fire in the hole) I don't think he'd be half the genius he is without a bit of the introspection caused by insecurity. I don't think he's given up, he's just looking in the wrong places. I can only hope that he gives the glory for his supreme musicianship back to God and finds solace.

  • Lyrically this song fits 2011.

  • Outstanding video interpretation of one of my favorite Dan songs, favorite songs period. Thanks for sharing. Great work.

  • i think its beautiful

  • i think its beautiful

  • I love Michael McDonald's voice in the background blowin hard... He was one of the Dan.

  • I think it is very nice! Thanks for sharing!

  • love this great music

  • Steely Dan is just not meant for music videos, with VERY few exceptions. Whenever someone tries to create a video montage for a Steely Dan song, I just listen to the song.

These are my tunes, bitch. And you're not going to put your own spin on them.

  • Genius, more love! My favorite!

  • ...thoroughly enjoyed your video. Absolutely love the song, and believe you did it justice, adding some interesting twists, so that it was like listening to it with you. Tx!

  • I was just talking about this song and remembering being in Central Park and 5th Ave. I come to youtube and here it is set to one of my favorite Steely Dan songs.

    Beautiful video, well done indeed!

  • NICE

  • the calling of the master within. and now fond memories of learning. now we are the master.

  • This was a fantastic vid...

How you showed both sides of how the world is...

    Breathtaking!

  • Thanks for this video and song. I've listened to this song literally thousands of times since I was in high school in the 70s. I'm a DanFan tried and true.

  • Love the imagery. Thanks for sharing. =)

  • Says a lot. Perfect for the times. Get out your Bibles and check things out.

  • im a life-long Danfan and i personally your video and imagery is spot on ... love it

  • Any world that I'm welcome to...is better than the one I come from....naw it isny?/

  • this video captures the song. a true steely dan listener.

  • Fantastic video!

I Like the way the content of the video is connected to the music and lyrics. It creates a powerful message that way.

Please continue to express your creative inclination about what we need to learn and do to develop our personal and collective consciousness and build a better world that we are all welcome to.

    - One World, One Family

  • Fantastic vid - FatDave IS full of it.

    Thanks!

  • Together we can build a new world.

It is already written in our hearts...

    Thanks for a great video!

    - One World, One Family

  • Good job.....great song.

  • I love Steely Dan, but this is one of my least favorite of their songs.

  • love the words <3

don't like how it sounds ....sadness

  • "Katy Lied" was, in my humble opinion, Steely Dan's best album. I dug every song on the album, but this and "Black Friday" were incredible. Donald Fagan's voice conveyes so much, and the music is obviously beautifully conceived and executed. By the way, nice video, and thanks for posting it!

  • Well done.

  • thanks for the great video.....

  • A great video, but it would have been even better if it just stayed floating around in the clouds.

  • al I can say is...thanks

  • Video is dumb but song is among the greatest ever

  • I think I'll go to the park

    Watch the children playing

Perhaps I'll find in my head

    What my heart is saying.

  • If I had my way, I would move to another lifetime, I'd quite my job, Ride the train through the misty night time....

  • I love the song. One of my favorite Steely Dan songs. Thank you for sharing it!

  • Fat Dave, your comments are well grounded and thought out and, yes indeed, you are in fact full of shit.

  • Good job, but can I offer some constructive criticism? Sometimes it's better if the images reflect the mood of the music rather than the literal meaning of the lyrics. A little ambiguity is good.

It starts to distract from the music if I'm paying attention to how each scene matches the lyrics, no matter how clever the fit is. It's like "Oh look, and there's a hand reaching out", and then the idea of a hand reaching out gets separated from its lyrical context.

Then again maybe I'm full of shit.

  • sick song. sick vid

  • Agreed 100%

Thanks alot for posting the video though!

  • @FatDave2112 I like the images.

  • @FatDave2112 "Then again maybe I'm full of shit."

Not at all. If it's worth doing (video, in this case), it's worth doing well.

    We should pity the unartistic.

  • @FatDave2112

"Then again maybe I'm full of shit."

I've got this thing inside me....

Sorry, I'm in a weird mood today...

  • @FatDave2112 Yes Dave a little ambiguity is good no doubt about it! Like being capable of doing two things at once. For example: Watching a nice video by an amateur who should be thanked for making this an interesting experience for us all AND listening to the music at the very same time.

What you've described seems somewhat like ADD. "Oh look there's a hand reaching out !" and now by God! I'm thrown off lyrical content track! Make sense?... Just offering some "constructive criticism" Dave.

  • @AnthonyDelRay Perfect!

  • @FatDave2112 LOL ""Then again maybe I'm full of shit.""" I found the criticism imformative...I like the video..... and I found the last line funny....Steely Dan would aprove,,,,, ;) Peace to All.....

  • @FatDave2112 full of doggie doo doo. :-) You wanted feedback! :-)

  • this is a good song, o yeah, do you have "the western world" from the same period? I'dd love you for adding that song...

  • Great vid. I especially liked the last moments as my world's in Anchorage for the time being. Always enjoyed the song. TY and Happy Holidays! Laya~

  • My favorite Steely Dan song. Not heard often at all. They are brilliant. Thanks for this beautiful video.

  • @tazie45 mine too

  • indeed..very nice..u worked hard on this, good job :D

  • Thoughtful, nicely done.

  • Very creative on a gorgeous song, cheers

  • Awesome video.
