That's strange, the syndicated TPIR had the Viacom distribution tag and kept the CBS Television City ref., but the other syndicated G-T shows that tape at TV City don't have the reference to that (MG, FF '88, etc.).
Originally Viacom distributed programming for CBS, but would end up later absorbing the network. As of 2005 or '06, the two have split. CBS is now CBS corp.
Oh, and on the syndie thing, maybe we will have a shot at this once the dust settles on the new host. Maybe we will get somebody who wants a daytime and nighttime version. Only time will tell
Forgive me, but what was the point of this particular clip? I see some talk about Viacom, and that I do not completely understand either (and, the link to Wikipedia, while finds, looks like the info was edited).
You doin close captioning for us? Lol, they need that feature on here actually(for the people who have shit in their ears). Yeah, that was too much for a damn cheap furntiture showcase, and would still be a bit high today really.
What hdayejr said about TPIR coming on at 2am in NYC was correct. When I was 7 the summer of 86, I watched a few episodes of TPIR at that time at my Great Grandparents house. It was a shock cause I didn't even know there was a different version from the one on during the day but I loved it just the same. Tom Kennedy was great and that version should have been on much longer than it was. Hell it should be on today.
It also was the same for the TPIR '85 version with Tom Kennedy(word is that it was on at 2am in NYC, one of the critical stations for syndie shows), and TPIR '94 numbers were so low it only last 4 months. Even though the '85 version only lasted one season, it could have been on more. Tom Kennedy did a really great job.
One thing I've always wondered is why the show never made the same splash in syndication it has on daytime while other shows like Wheel and Family Feud became just as big in syndication.
Viacom used to own CBS, but not anymore since New Year's Day 2006. And CBS does own 50% rights of The Price Is Right, the other half is own by Fremantle Media North America, just to clears things up.
Viacom spun of it's CBS assests into a seperate comapny called CBS Coporation and Viacom formed a new company with the Viacom name. However, Sumner Redstone's company National Amusements still controls both companies, so in a way, they're pretty much the same.
Not anymore it doesn't. Viacom has spun off CBS. Sumner Redstone's National Amusements controls both companies but the corporate structures are separated.
Some people were scared of it. Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_of_Doom. There is a further explanation on it. I was only a little child when it was used, and it didn't scare me one bit.
AHA! I do remember that. The V that ate the television...I was too young to remember seeing it much but...can't say it really scared me when I DID see it.
Viacom also distributed the syndicated Dawson Family Feud from 1977-1985. It did the same thing as Price in terms of the credit crawl but it was near the end of it as opposed to mid-crawl.
That is if, and only if, these programs are rerun on ANY TV station or cable channel. I'm pissed they don't show Price on GSN. And I want to know why.
The reason why is they don't have the rights to rebrodcast The Price Is Right anymore
Source:Wikipedia's GSN Page
"GSN's contract to air Price expired in April 2000 and has not been renewed to this day. Most Price reruns are held not entirely by FremantleMedia, but also through CBS Television Distribution, as CBS is currently a part-owner of the American Price franchise; therefore, GSN would have to pay royalties to both CBS and Fremantle to gain the rights to the show."

She won One Right Price, which on the nighttime version, was a "big prize game"
Surprised they played 2 "time saver" games on 1 nighttime show.

The Tom Kennedy version never aired here in Chicago due to the local CBS O&O airing the network version of "Price" late in the afternoon.
terehend 4 years ago
In Detroit, the Kennedy-hosted "Nighttime TPIR" was seen on WJBK-TV2 (then a CBS affiliate) in the early evening at either 7:00 or 7:30 PM EST.

CBS O&O? I thought it was channel 2. What is O&O?
sugarbear522 4 years ago
"O&O" is an industry term for owned-and-operated by the network.
terehend 4 years ago
It is trade "lingo" for owned and operated.
