It started out like that--she felt a hollow nearby and Hitsugaya was impressed with her (albeit small) reiastu (sorry if I spelled that wrong). He keeps watching her because of that (Matsumoto makes a jab at him, something like "Have you fallen in love with a human girl?"). Finally, he shows up at Karin's soccer game, and until he finds out that she is hurt, he refuses to join the game. His reaction to her injury is particularly interesting; likewise, Karin's awe of Shirou's shinigami powers. xP
