Um. Maybe you should have scripted the monologue. Riffing the review doesn't seem to be your thing. Also, thanks for making us see how a DRRI can sound like a Peavey.
Wow. Some of the Marty hate on here is ridiculous. He's an awesome teacher- hearing him give his take on the amp is great. Really want one of these amps (just got a Twin but too loud for home play).
Hi I got a really rare amp (2x12) i cant find any info on... i just know it was handmade in the uk maybe in the 80's .. wondering if people can check it out on my page and hopefully someone knows something about it and hopefully let me know how much its worth.
In australia we pay around $1800 for this amp! abt a grand more expensive...are they for real here..americans would send fender broke if that were the case over there.
what it comes down to is either you can play or you cannot play. All this talk about equipment man won,t make you sound like a hero. All it does is boost the resale market. Marty is the kind of musician that could make any product sound great
marty gives loads of great lessons for free , which is very cool , n he;s a nice guy , if you look at the people who make bad comments.. videos they;ve uploaded are invariably complete kak . negative comments from people that make a really bad noise that no one wants to hear . it;s a touch ironic
I usualy like your vids Marty, not this time. First of all your overdrive sucks, try pearl's blues screamer...That's the tone. And btw if you make a review please show us the full amp's features, advantages, disadvantages...You know THE STUFF. You dont even tell us what kind of speaker it has, tubes, does it come with some pedal controler? Do you have to switch the jack to the tremolo input if you want that effect? Just a little more in depth information would be appreciated. That's all.
It really drives me nuts when people do demos and either talk for half of it or solo the entire time. Most songs have riffs, chords, even chugs. I want to hear real music. I am tired of image. This guy is more concerned on how he looks and being witty or funny than what the video is supposed to be about, which is to demo a amp. I don't care where you use it or what you do. Just play the damn thing.
@DanielAndriani10 neither this or the vox would honestly be great for the bands you mentoned. those are all classic marshall sounds. maybe check out the marshall class 5 or haze for more that sound on the cheap
I have one of the old ones designed by Rivera - pretty much the same but no trem. And everything you say is right - this is probably one of the most recorded amp - a clssic studio amp. I've not found that 22 watts is limiting - you want more, just mic it up through the PA. It does beutiful clean tone and some real dirty blues tones - no pedal needed, this is the real deal. @nonvlog Yep - but if you had a Vox AC15 you'd be right up there at the same sort of price. Valve amps always cost a lot more but once you've heard one you'll never want to use a digital amp again. The good solid state stuff costs a lot more so you end up with the same sort of prices you'd pay for a valve amp. (Check out what a Roland JC120 would cost you.) I'd go valve every time. On a budget?- check out the Peavey Classic, or the Rivera Pubster 25.
@nonvlog Tube amps will always be more expensive than solid state amps because they're far more expensive to produce, and because these days they are considered have more desirable tonal qualities. Vox's tube amps are in the same range as this. an AC-15 costs about $600 and an AC-30 is about $1200. $800 for a quality 22watt tube amp is a very reasonable price.
I used to think these Fenders sounded good, but they sound like toys to me now. Compare with a Tungsten Crema Wheat or Vintage Sound Amp, or many others which make this sound like a transistor radio.
Hello: Nice lessons Marty. About your amp, think that the channels are inverted and used at the same time is not a good idea as one channel can cancel the other due the out of phase thing. There is a mod around to set them on phase and at the same time adds reverb and vibrato to the channel one too (by only changing one cable). Cheers from Spain.
i like your videos, and i like your roundabout way of explaining things-it brings a certain kind of intensity to your explanation. why bother with pedals when you got that thing! i have the same one, but mine is an original,, and pedals, nahh. does your amp have the blackface circuitry like mine? your name isn't vinny is it?

how can you use this amp cranched up if usually the volume you're allowed to play at can't be that high? Plus you can play in a big venue with a 5 watts amp because amps are microphoned in big concerts halls. I cannot understand the need for a Twin when in bigger venues. I have played in many places, on many stages and I have never turned the volume of my twin above 3...the sound engineer would kill me if I did that.on the stage the volume tends to be quite low: people care about their ears.
im just beginning, & wanting the 65 reissue twin reverb, Can you tell me if that is to much for my living room or bedroom ? Ive not used a tube before & my Crate sucks, I bought a 64 reissue LP Custom 335 & think this would be the perfect match. Any advice i sure appreciate,,, just gotta get a junior kimbrough tone,, :)
are there any minor changes you would recommend to have done on the drri? I purchased one and although I like it, the high end seems to get harsher and unpleasing as the volume increases. Specific tube changes or speaker replacements that you would recommend? I hear that changing the bias on to 24mA is helpful as well. Any feedback would be appreciated.
A harsh treble is most likely the speaker. Most speakers hower tend to soften up a little by aging, so a lot of playig will make it a little less harsher.
It can also appear harsh because your playing like alone in your room, normally in a band setup the harsness tends to get a little lost in the mix.
Lastly, a fender is a very bright amp, especially if you have a telecaster or strat. don't be afraid to use your guitars tone knob or your amps treble knob
Dude - I'm sincerely glad you're busy in your music business life... all the gigs you mention, the lessons, the running around and how great it is to be able to carry such a class amp/sound around with you... but.... could you please make your points more timely and succinct? That would be great! Other than that - fine review - nice sounds, fine playing. Thanks!
@FIRECRACKER392 There are only two great guitars - a Fender Strat and a Gibson Les Paul. The Gibson is for mellow stuff (Allman Bros./Southern Rock), and the Fender for hard stuff (Hnedrix/Clapton). Other guitars can be good - like Rickys and some of the weird ones Santana plays - but then Santana makes anything sound cool. As for amps, Fender for smaller gigs, Marshall for stadiums.

@CAP1997FURACAO no problem bro..but yea like i said those Vox amps the VT series they're pretty cool..they're one tube modeled...sum people get the tone they want out of a tube amp..and some out of solit state it all matters what ur looking for..like what style you play..and to sum extent your level of skill
GAHD!!! 4 minutes in and he's not said or done anything ob substance.... ummm ahh ummmm....my gigs...um...name drop (of someone nobody knows)...ahhhh...ummmm....blah blah blah
Marty, You are definitely a stand up guy. I play guitar in a three piece Jazz, blues, Pop band and have several of your CDs that have really helped me. I really value your opinion and am looking at changing my amp out and moving to the deluxe reverb. Thanks for thanking the time to provide honest insight.
can we say icepick without the mods? undersized transformer and suck sounding speaker. unless they've changed things other than the price in the last few years. we used to use a reverened altone 1250 speaker to kill the icepick. it did'nt take me long to part with it.
Cool hat.Not sarcasm seriously its a cool fuckin hat. oh yeah and this amp is god. its also $999.99 sooooooo its gonna take a while before I can afford it.
first you talk about shit then you actually play something and its all shit........man that amp must be so embarrased,i bet it wished it had legs to run the fuck away from you
great you finally played and the first thing you played from a fender amp is some distorted rubbish? im really grateful for the video as its one of the few decent quality ones but cmon man attention to detail will get you happy viewers.
@Wizmar I think he only looks like. If you take a look at his activity, howmany time could he have to be a bandit ? And if he was, why would he do that job? :o) And I'd like to wear the same hat.
Marty, I hope you continue with all of the info and the lessons, you are great. I have learned alot from your vides. I also have this amp. And I have a HR 410
just a bigger sound?? try fuller, richer, bottom end to die for, crank it past 6 or 7 and it's still clean as all get out!! the notes sail, but still clean as hell. If I crank her to 10 she will demo my house.. LOL..............
I tried one and it has that awesome fender sound ...but not very versatile..now if it had the modeling that the super champ has....then i would have bought it..
@chooseyourblues No. the vm doesnt have amp modeling just some effects like chorus and echo ,reverb ,tremelo etc..The Super champ has amp modeling in it plus effects but is only 15 watts...
@chooseyourblues . the VM has effects but doesnt have amp modeling like the Super Champ and from what I have looked at, the amp above is about 200 dollars more than the VM ($900+ vrs $700+)
The guitar that Marty is playing is called "The Heritage" Think they were made back in the '80s by some of the Gibson craftsmen that left when the company was at a low point. Damn nice guitars!
Marty does a great job with this amp demo. I love the history of the amp and how and when he uses this amp. I have a Twin and am shopping for a smaller, lighter amp. He's a real pro. This is perfect for a someone who's seriously in the market for a new amp. Thanks Marty!
How many people are there supposed to be, in order for it to be a big gig? like 500 or what?

000steelandstone000 1 year ago
Marty, You are definitely a stand up guy. I play guitar in a three piece Jazz, blues, Pop band and have several of your CDs that have really helped me. I really value your opinion and am looking at changing my amp out and moving to the deluxe reverb. Thanks for thanking the time to provide honest insight.
Toddbla 1 year ago
can we say icepick without the mods? undersized transformer and suck sounding speaker. unless they've changed things other than the price in the last few years. we used to use a reverened altone 1250 speaker to kill the icepick. it did'nt take me long to part with it.

@Wizmar I think he only looks like. If you take a look at his activity, howmany time could he have to be a bandit ? And if he was, why would he do that job? :o) And I'd like to wear the same hat.

Why do people talk for 4 and a half minutes before playing? Just say a basic intro and play the damn amp.

what a jackass. "It's convenient to have 4 guitars plugged into the same amp?"
That's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard someone say.
Plus, fatboy, no one gives a shit about your schedule. Play the amp and shut up.

@HappylandStudio well, if you gave lessons, you would understand.

just a bigger sound?? try fuller, richer, bottom end to die for, crank it past 6 or 7 and it's still clean as all get out!! the notes sail, but still clean as hell. If I crank her to 10 she will demo my house.. LOL..............

dan this is the deluxe reverb..not sure if this reissue is hand wired point to point like the origional though..it may be just tubes and a pc board.

I tried one and it has that awesome fender sound ...but not very versatile..now if it had the modeling that the super champ has....then i would have bought it..
johncartelli 1 year ago
They do, it's called a Deluxe VM (standing for 'Vintage Modified').
It has all the effects in place and has an overdrive section. Priced about the same as the above.
chooseyourblues 1 year ago
@chooseyourblues No. the vm doesnt have amp modeling just some effects like chorus and echo ,reverb ,tremelo etc..The Super champ has amp modeling in it plus effects but is only 15 watts...
johncartelli 1 year ago
@chooseyourblues . the VM has effects but doesnt have amp modeling like the Super Champ and from what I have looked at, the amp above is about 200 dollars more than the VM ($900+ vrs $700+)

The guitar that Marty is playing is called "The Heritage" Think they were made back in the '80s by some of the Gibson craftsmen that left when the company was at a low point. Damn nice guitars!

I want that guitar! what guitar is it? Thank you!
LuXguitaR 2 years ago
@LuXguitaR it's a Heritage ES335 ... it's a brand by gibson and they're around 1500 dollar

Marty does a great job with this amp demo. I love the history of the amp and how and when he uses this amp. I have a Twin and am shopping for a smaller, lighter amp. He's a real pro. This is perfect for a someone who's seriously in the market for a new amp. Thanks Marty!
