Technically a taqsim is an instrumental solo WITHOUT any other accompaniment - percussion or otherwise. A taqsim has no discernible rhythm. When there is a discernible rhythm like chiftitelli or ayoub/zar it is technically no longer a taqsim.
@RimahVideo19 A taksim is when an instrument improvise in solo (sometime, there is percussions to accompany the instrument. Here it's the kind of "flute" (I don't remember the name of this instrument). The dancer often has to improvise on the taksim (because it's never the same when it's done live) but now with records music, you can see choreographed taksim.
Thanks for advancing a response above! Yeah, taksim is a section of a belly dance routine where musician(s) and dancer improvise together. Usually a melodical instrument (qanum, violin, ud, etc.), a nay (Arabic for flute) in this video, is played solo, but sometimes percussion participates in the background (playing Ayyub in this video).
I plan to upload another Taksim I did with live music where several musicians improvised as well as the percussion section joined us later on. Stay tuned!
