thank you!! i have moved from window pc to apple mac everything is upside down upside out on the mac but your videos are a great help thank you again!!!
@macmostvideo yes, for example i need select 5 files that there are inside of the carpet.... not all... necessarily I have to select everything that is inside the folder?
come on guys, this is something apple should implement in finder, like in windows!! I dont wanna open automator everytime I wanna rename 4 or 5 files!! APPLE PLEASE ADD SOME MULTIPLE FILE RENAME OPTION IN FINDER in YOUR NEXT SNOW LEOPARD UPDATE, is it that hard????
thanks for this, i was having a difficult time running a workflow, in leopard all i used to do was highlight then right click to the workflow now it seems to have changed where u need to have automator running... thank you very much!
Thanks for the videocast. A quick question. I am trying to name some scanned pdf's based on the metadata that is attached to the file. I know how to extract the metadata but how do you then assign that information to be used to name the file in question? Thanks
Thanks for your quick reply. I had hoped to do it in automator. There is an action rename finder items (or even rename pdf documents) but what I can't figure out is how to use the text variable I'd just extracted using the action "get pdf metadata" into the renaming action.
I have almost no knowledge of applescripting so that would be a lot harder for me to do in applescript.
extremely useful video. Could you may be show us other workflow, as in if we could set up our computer to play song or open a website at a particular time using automator.?

@isabelidejah I don't understand what you mean by "carpet." If you are looking to rename 5 files, just rename them one at a time.

You can use the same technique as described in the video. Try it and experiment. There is a lot you can do.

Do you mean in AppleScript? That would be the only way to do it, if you can get the metadata in AppleScript. Not sure of the exact commands, though.

Try searching for "automator rename pdf to author" and there are some interesting things that may lead you in the right direction.

Check out episode 247 for another Automator tutorial. Then, to schedule one, use iCal.

nice video. what really annoys me about the finder is that you cant cut and paste files. you can only copy
macpac22 2 years ago
you can drag files while pressing command and it will move instead of copying

Good stuff to know. I don't use Automator as much as I should.
