God damn mutha fooking LEGEND of a chooooon.... After getting munted on the dancefloor the night before, everyone is starfished all over the living room - fooked. Then this choon comes on, everyone just looks at each each with a huge smile on thier faces, just waiting for that "morning after" rush to kick in, which this song never failed to bring. Absolute monsta of a choooon - '93-'95 old skool, never to be beaten, never to be forgotten, never to be repeated. PEACE to all those who remember
remember playing this at my brother's 15th birthday party when one of his friends brought it along, and I was given the task of DJing. Not sure I "got it" at the time...
@Spailzor Look up different Mixes by Underworld, One Dove, Orbital, Opus III, Grace, Remixes of Saint Etienne, Sven Vath, BT....Peace...check out my channel sometime
@Spailzor Check out this clip from a English club back in early '92. It pretty much sums up what it was like during the playing of this great music, especially starting at 0:47 /watch?v=nX_AS92COws
@andmaketherain i worked for an agency promoting drum club around this time and used to go to the sound shaft in london to watch lol and charlie DJ. This is still my favourite album of all time and from the vinyl I've burnt CDs to give as gifts to friends. My eldest son DJs now and it is his most used album to mix with. What people, what an era, what sounds!!! @queenofredhotcurries
@queenofredhotcurries For me, the magic of this sound is a creative quality that is un-ego.The syncopations reflect a "modern" tribal knack to connect to the heartbeat of the individual. Back in the day, fuck, seeing white people dance to this in Toronto 94'-98',and I am talking breaking down shit to a simple level and then morphing into a non-beat organic spirit, vibe, heart, soul, creation. I saw it, I danced it,I lived it.Being a raver was the sweetest pinacle of my life. It will happen again
@andmaketherain Did you ever hear the drum club remix for psychic warriors of gaia? Now that was tribal!!!!! So many great sounds around. The orb, orbital, aphex twin, spooky. We are still getting some cool stuff coming out but nothing will ever replace that grounbreaking time that just blew everyone away. Free partying will never be the same again. Dancing on a beach in tarifa at 6 in the morning with electrical storms over the sea and some of the nicest people on the planet.
Late 1960s & early 90s the two greatest periods for music though of course there's always going to be some people in any particular time who are going to be on it. If you're waiting around though for a mass movement to get on it, then you better be prepared to have very long fallow periods in between.
It is difficult to describe how amazing this track is. Played on a big club system you are in fear that the bass towards the end will blow the speakers it is simply massive! There are some amazing tracks on probably the best mix CD ever, Northern Exposure I, & this is the biggest dancefloor track on that mix + it was created by the most influential DJs from the prog house scene. As a result you could argue this is the greatest prog house track.ever...I wonder how many people would disagree?....
As a young person (18 years old), I can tell you that this music is still great. However, I think you guys are spending too much time looking backwards instead of looking forwards. This was on the cutting edge in 1993, so try finding the cutting edge in 2011 and immersing yourself in that scene. Maybe you'll find the same level of enjoyment there.
@cheappop This is the wisest comment I have ever read about any "past" music and it reflects exactly what I'm thinking and what I always try to convince people of. There is great music today also, electronic or other. Just look for it instead of brooding on the good old days, which are the same for everyone, i.e. those when we were 20 (I'm 42 and I'm a dj as a hobby ;)
@cheappop You're right, man. Nowadays we can say that there are two kind of people: those who are in a perpetual chronic nostalgia, and those who are in new stuff listening to pure shit. Then there is a small category that search more deeply in new music and still found good works. I noticed that many times old schoolers are more interested in criticizing new music than in the development of EDM. I have some ideas, but not sufficient time for producing music :(
@TheTrancemaster90 I was born in 69, i heard this when it was first released and being old enough to have my own transport to get around to underground clubs and raves in the late 80's early 90's i heard a lot of music. If wishing we had the same quality and feel of the music nowadays is chronic nostalgia, then it is only because there is nothing around nowadays that comes close to the early 90's
Its about IYF attitude, money and ego and fame on the back of minimum production effort these days
@cheappop the cutting edge is tragically blunt and has been since 2003, i have seldom heard anything since that isnt a money making excercise in trying to sound like a tune that had the potential to be a little more than a short lived disposable piece of prime commercial radio bollocks.
1993 was the fucking BOMB! A truly magical year, for music, and for my life.
I only wish i could somehow get back to those days! To that FEELING!! I feel like i've been trying to reconnect with it ever since... Life seems so boring now in comparison!
Agree with you 5h00m5. I've always revered the first Northern Exposure as the best electronic dance mix ever made and this is the best track on that album.
mad ferret the tune is fukin wicked got this on vinyl and its a bloody classic tune thanks for the upload made my day , we need this sort of music back again ..NOW ...
Mine as well my friend. Don't you wish you could go back again? It's a shame I don't think younger people will ever know or understand those times. They are being born in times of less and less freedoms. Endless Summer Indeed!!!
100% - still get the goosebumps listening to this trach and remembering those halcyon days, not too many headlines back then about kids murdering each other...
Also the run up to the first ceasefire in my native Belfast, christ we thought it was all because of us getting wasted and dancing together, which in a way I still believe.
