You can tell that he's obviously not a pilot for WestJet because as far as I know WestJet pilots are much more professional and knowledgable than that, and also...all WestJet pilots are qualified to fly any of their aircraft, not only the B738s. ;)
Thats cool, i love when your on the ground in a cloudy day then when you get over them its sunny.West jet is what i like to fly, Thanks for the video too
the captain did not and if you knew anything about boeings, or at least a 737 you would know that the spoilers/speed brakes are also used for bank. so the captain might have bumped the controls. My dad flys for wja and the 737 is not so computerized that the pilots have to "try" and put the spoilers up. the boeing does exactly what you tell it to.
It's part of the banking systems on certain aircraft, what the speed brakes as they are referred to while in the air, and spoilers on the ground, they reduce lift on the wing, so when banking, it allows the plane to turn faster, by reducing lift on one of the wings. When landing both of the wings spoilers are deployed, creating drag, and taking away lift on the wings.
Haha, that would never happen here. The cockpit door is closed almost all of the time, except when almost everyone is off of the plane. Are you Canadian? I always thought that being a different nationality, but so close to an American accent was cool.
westjet is awesome... nice vid. the camera shoots a very "plane" shot lol. i think it would be nice for passenger planes to have bubble windows. what do you think
I absolutely love Westjet. I have had nothing but 100% satisfaction from them. I hope to fly for Westjet once I get my Commercial License under my belt ;)
Yes, I will be taking a Flight College course that will give me all the required licenses and ratings to enable me to work fly for employment under the Transport Canada guidlines ;)
If that's the case, then boeing is only contradicting themselves...Why would they spend the time and money designing and building winglets if they didn't serve any purpose except to look good--It doesn't make sense..
I am just telling you what the engineer that came up with the winglet idea, told my dad, when my dad worked at Boeing, it helps just a tiny bit, the only thing it does is remove the wingtip vortices, but its mostly for looks.
yea, current, my dad worked for Boeing, and he talked to the guy that came up with the idea, they found that what they only do is eliminate the wingtip vortices, to increase fuel savings, nothing to stabalize the aircraft, so he decided to use it to put the companies logo or w/e on it, as a pretty addon.
I'm confused. Fuel savings were exactly WHY these were put on! These were never intended to stabilize the aircraft. So, they are actually quite a bit more than pretty add ons. AirBus has these as well. The blended wingtip for Boeing was really devised for the BBJ,and then they extended it onto the rest of the 737NG family. They are also in the 744's and the 787's. So, the do nothing comment contradicts the fuel savings reality.
Thats what the Boeing engineer who came up with the idea, told him, was to stablize the aircraft, and to stop wingtip vortices, and he said they they didn't stablize the aircraft that much in the tests, not that they don't but its not a big change, so they were left on the designs as a show piece, but thats it, as far as their function.
there not even made by boeing and it costs thousands of dollars per flight for fuel, so an average of 7% fuel savings is absolutely awesome. and they wouuldnt put them of for looks because in ways they limit the aircraft, with winglets you cant have as much crosswind factor. i have no clue where you get your info.
lol it's very funny how pathetic your attempts to make people think you know what you're saying. Winglets give up to a 7% increase in fuel economy which when you take into account that on each and every flight an airplane burns thousands of dollars of fuel. So, a 7% increase seems very small but it ends up saving thousands of dollars a flight. Saving the airline up to millions of dollars a year.
I am just telling you, what the engineer at Boeing, said to my dad when my dad worked at Boeing.
Doesn't seem to save that much, with the way the economy is going, but then again, the government is always working for the rich bastards, and global elitists.
actually the person who invented winglets invented them before the wright brothers even flew. It's true, they only started being put on aircraft recently though.
lol it's funny how you're trying to make it sound like you know all about this when it's quite obvious that you don't. What galion is saying is pretty much all true, except that winglets were invented a few years after the wright brothers flew.
ya, winglets actually save ALOT of fuel and are not meant for looks abit, the only reason airlines put their names on them is for advertising. Airportchris2 knows absolutely no clue about winglets and it's easy to tell he's lying to try and make himself look smart.
wingtip vortices are a major source of drag which reduces efficiency so by adding winglets and therefore reducing drag efficiency is improved by about 5%
what seat???

That "big ole triangulare shaped thing" is a winglet. They increase fuel efficientcy by 3%+ and decrease drag!

According to a Boeing Engineer, they don't do that much infact nothing for the aircraft.
