  • Yee haaaw Bob!

  • Where is this?

  • yes yes yes !

  • it's funny because Seth's capo is on the 4th fret. Which makes it in this version b major not b flat major.

  • does anyone know what key this is in?

  • @8matthewsutton Asharp minor I think.

  • Ahh can't wait to see them at Bonnaroo this year, alongside papadosio and the shins its going to be amazingg

  • Seeing them in concert is an epic experience!

  • justttttt amazing

  • @callmeTruman

They have banjos for like 150$ at Guitar Center!

And like 100$ for guitars :)

  • Truman, get a Deering Goodtime 2. Around 500 to 600. Great sound and believe it or not, US Made!

  • that beautiful banjo costs 7000 bucks...so much for me picking up banjo in my free time

  • they are almost like born of osiris

  • @mistermurse Actually he misses 32 beats

  • i am obsessed.

  • seeing them live in march in springfield mo! even if i have to go by myself!

  • Seth Avett sounds so good toward the end he sounds auto-tuned.

  • The Avett Brothers make real music

  • Listen, I really really enjoy a few tracks on Mumford's album, but let's withhold comparisons until they are able to put out over 6 consistently awesome LP's with countless amazing songs...then we can compare the two. Give them a couple of years to catch up to the Avetts.

  • Going to the New Years Eve show tomorrow. I live 10 minutes away. Life is Good.

  • @theAmspir i was there!!! i cried and screamed every the lyrics to every song it was amazing!

  • I was there! Best concert of my life from the most sincere band of my generation

  • omg! 2:25 over and over again

  • I dare someone to listen to this song and not stomp a foot and/or bob your head.

  • @colincoby can't do it.

  • 0:20 im not sure what to do with my hands.

  • the energy is amazing!!!

  • I love how Scott breaks a string and then just switches out his banjo without missing a beat.

    Like a boss.

  • @mistermurse their record for broken strings in one show is like 32 banjo and like 40 some guitar strings. this was back in their earlier days.

  • WHAT!!!!!!!!! THEY WERE ON GAC??? world ended.... just like when Mumford and sons hit MTV :( dear Avett Brothers: please don't be popular.

  • @TheBlackSheepcast Typical. People only liking bands because they're unpopular is stupid.

  • @ctfmonexe No way, I just like the Avett Brothers for what they are, i'm not some Washington hipster that drinks too much Starbucks, I just hate when things I like get run into the ground, I would certainly hate to get tired of this, if that's possible. If a band gets too popular, in some cases it gets to their head and they change. I certainly don't want them to change, that'd be terrible, but I do think it's stupid for someone to like a band just because they're undiscovered, you're right.

  • @TheBlackSheepcast That's a more intelligent answer than I expected. I'm sorry for my assumption that you were someone who only wishes to be different.

  • @ctfmonexe Nah, it's alright, I just didn't want to go down as another person who's different like everybody else.

  • @TheBlackSheepcast

Why not? Don't they deserve to be popular?

  • @lukew6080 It's just me being selfish I guess, I hate when things are run into the ground by mainstream media, i just want to keep them to myself, but I understand that that's the wrong way to think.

  • Love these guys!!! Saw them in Portland; it was one of the best live shows I've ever seen!

  • @jonahnicholson67 Slow and gloomy my ass. Mumford and Sons run the gammut of happy and sad, just like the Avett Brothers, and I love them both.

  • Scott breaks a string and he still manages to make this my favorite song. ever.

  • They have so much energy on stage!

  • Comment removed

  • You know Scotts broke a string every time he plays this song...true story

  • Comment removed

  • WOW! Saw this for first time on GAC country videos last nite. Great melody and lyrics!! These guys should be in top tier of several musical genres.

  • seeing them live in october!

  • @SquadMate123 HA! Seein'em live in jan!

  • seeing them live in an hour

  • 1:08...like a boss

    1:20...LIKE A BOSS

  • this is honestly one of the best live performances ive ever seen. ive watched this video countless times and it NEVER gets old. LONG LIVE THE AVETT BROTHERS

  • I listen to this band on my ipod 24/7 it seems like and I NEVER get tired of them. Simply perfect!!

  • seeing them soon at the Aragon in Chicago... can't wait!

  • Amen to one of the best bands out there right now

  • I have seen the future of rock and roll and its surname is Avett.

  • its not fun to watch my funny show its fun to see what i wanted to see! now stop with the ads!

  • Haha they're actually playing this in B (natural) major....

  • @dmildy no its in B b major. its just that seths guitar is a half step down so it looks like B major

  • @dharpify1 no, it really is just B major, i play it on my guitar, i know :D

  • @LG97187 well then you sir, are playing it in the wrong key. because i do too. and its B b major

  • @dharpify1 maybe your guitar is tuned half-step up?

  • @LG97187 no offense, but that is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard. no one tunes a half step up.

  • @dharpify1 yeah, seemed weird to me too :D

I'm just trying to find an explanation to this situation.

  • @dharpify1 yeah i don't know if that's even possible. you'd for sure break the high E.

  • @dharpify1 quit being an asshole and listen to the music.

  • @123stoopidmonkey hey man no ones being an asshole here.

  • 3 people are Paranoid in D minor.

  • 2:04 awesome cello/bass thingy spin!!!!

  • @shizzmonkey00 it's a bass. celli (like, more than one cello) are smaller but the same shape. i really hope this band isn't an introduction to classical instruments for the average person watching them. though i suppose if it is, then they are doing the world some good by showing it that there are other musical instruments besides guitar.

  • somewhere there is a small village missing 3 idiots,,,,,and that village is now thriving :)

  • somewhere there is a small village missing 3 idiots,,,,,and that village is now thriving :)

  • I seriously can't see how any one sane person would hate either the Avetts or Mumford & Sons... I myself, am praying to God for a collaboration of some kind between them!

  • @romanthemusician I haven't seen them collab together, but both The Avett Bros and M&S opened for Bob Dylan at the Grammys. don't know if you caught that

  • @wynette26 I did. That was my first taste of live Mumford and my full baptism into Avett fandom

  • Where's the fucking repeat button when you need one?!

  • You guys can't compare bands with each other really. The Avett Brothers have their music, Mumford and Sons has theirs. You can listen to one, the other, or both, or neither, but they do not have to be compared. Although something tells me this comment is virtually pointless and people will still compare and contrast the two.

  • @TytanOwns These two bands can't be compared. I agree with you. The flow is different. This band is very satirical in it's writing, Mumford and Sons are very metaphoric. The Avett brothers give off a lot more confidence in their stage presence but Mumford and Sons show much more confidence in their connection the the instruments. The'res two different vibes going on. It's sad people don't pick up on these things. They miss out on two stories. But! that's just my opinion :)

  • @ProfessionalWidow83 You said it all.

  • @TytanOwns I'm with you on this issue. Bugs me when it becomes a pissing contest, 'hey they've got a banjo, must be copyin' that other band, man!' Weak. Unfortunately humans like to compete, even when its just about arguing over who's better. They're all good. Music is all good!

  • @TheHillBrother agreed

  • amazing!

  • Mumford sounds precise live because they're so boring (different than simple). They whack at their instruments and do the same lame predictable harmony/yawn song after song. They get the trendy folky points because of instrumentation and style and the mainstream appeal because they're really just vanilla modern rock. They're songwriting is marginal. When the trend goes so will M&S.

On the other-hand The Avetts songwriting has and will continue to allow them to flourish regardless of what's cool

  • I say them and mumford the other day at memphis in may....mumford sounded better, avett had more energy and played the crowd better, both were amazing...

  • I don't know why people compare the Avett Brothers to Mumford and Sons so much. They are the same genre of music, but sound completely different. The Avett Brothers are upbeat and crazy; Mumford and Sons are slow and gloomy. The Avett Brothers are way better.

  • @jonahnicholson67 did you just say you dont know why people compare them and then compare them yourself?

  • hey where's the asian guy.... I miss the asian guy :-(

  • the avett brothers are amazing musicians... simply amazing.

  • This is there only song i like right now. Definitely talented

  • @Amakisongs

Obviously I don't know what songs you've listened to or own, but if you like this song you might like the entire Emotionalism album if you don't have it yet.

Here's some Avett Song suggestions based upon you liking Paranoia: Please Pardon Yourself, At the Beach (Mignonette), Colorshow, The Fall (Four Thieves Gone), Backwards With Time (The Gleam), Go To Sleep, Salina, Pretty Girl from Chile (Emotionalism), St. Joseph's (The Gleam), Tin Man, The .Perfect Space (I and Love and You)

  • @socalsugar

whoops, St. Joseph's is from the Second Gleam.

  • k sorry guys, i was bragging to my friend a couple weeks ago about how it had no dislikes, and he logged in and disliked it

  • This performance is brilliant. So much energy.

  • @xXxP0MExXx

    Heck yea! :D

  • imagine them, and mumford and sons in a showdown that would be amazing

  • @xXxP0MExXx Dream come true:

Friday, April 29, 2011 at the New Orleans Jazzfest: on the Gentilly Stage:

    1:55 to 2:55 the subdudes

3:25 to 4:50 Mumford and sons

5:30 to 7:00 pm - the Avett Brothers.

    You NEED TO BE THERE!

  • @xXxP0MExXx but they are so much better than mumford and sons....

  • Live is so much better than the studio version

  • Officially my favorite band!

  • great great great..... except nicki minaj is looking at me, and she blows

  • @mgb0017 I'd take Nicki Minaj over this Lady Gaga ad any day. Shoot me.

  • There is no bigger irony than the Avett Brothers having an ad for Lady Gaga next to their video.

  • @mgb0017 My Penis :D

  • @mgb0017 i kinda like nicki minaj....

  • @kittygoldfish they're not experimenting? haha they do that every time... it's on the album like that as well.

  • The falsetto harmonies at the end are painful. The rest of this is awesome, don't get me wrong.

  • @twinkleh00f that's whats so good about it!

  • @twinkleh00f I thought that it lended to a great ending!

  • @tlduker I have to agree with twinklehoof - It's not as bad as painful, it's just that something else could have gone better there, maybe another verse, maybe a different melody who knows?

  • @twinkleh00f couldnt agree more with your comment

  • so good.. especially right here 1:48

  • seeing them in two days!!!! i am so ready for my life to be changed!!!

  • Did he break a string and then get outfitted with a different banjo without even fucking up the flow of the song?! haha awesome!

  • @mistydawnx no he took off his vest

  • @mistydawnx, indeed - you should see it when they fly through the air!!

  • @mistydawnx When I saw them, he did this 4 or 5 times :]

  • @mistydawnx almost 1/1000 people that watched this video liked your comment...that's a very impressive ratio haha

  • @mistydawnx i tottally agree

  • @mistydawnx Thats how they play man. they have a guy just to restring his banjo's during the show! Love it!

  • @mistydawnx they went through alot of strings when i saw them

  • was at this concert. and seen them 4 times since. so incredible.
