Man all these post are haters. This guys not saying know this and your a blues man. He's breaking it down for you to start. I've been playin for years and been in a rut. Some new knowledge really helps. Keep rockin it....
@mazzoccotube holy shit u r one ta fucking talk i watched a cod video that was half decent and u commented that the video sucked, he thought he was good, and that the good music that he was playing also sucked, so i decided to look at your recent activity and u just go around hating on every video u can find and u comment that these people r all haters and if u look at the fucking like bar there is almost 100% like except for 5 people if u dont have anything good to say then y fucking say it fag
You definatley dont wanna stay in that box for all of your solo. I would say take some theory lessons and learn to throw in mixolydian and dorian for a more distinctive sound.
@davec3487 I bought it for Xmas - just started and it seems really good. He explains everything - all those little buzzwords you've heard over the years but never quite understood ('comping' for me) - all explained. Im on lesson 3 and I've learned a very easy tip to stave off finger tiredness. Also, when you get to a point when you think 'I can;t play that' (in my case 9th chords), he comes up with a practical solution (drop top string) that sounds great and stops you giving up in frustration.
@davec3487 And there's none (or very little!) of that 'well, if you want to be a proper musician you need to hold the pick at precisely 45 degrees to the perpendicular, with 0.5 newton meters of force applied and the anterior bulge aimed somewhere in the region of the constellation Orion'; which I've had a lot of in lessons before - which is a relief.
@davec3487 Lots of people have, and we recommend it! It's help me make more improvements to my playing in 3 months than everything else I've bought or tried in 20 years. FYI this video is in the Blues Guitar Unleashed package.
@Alkali64 Actually playing minor key only blues is more restrictive. How can extending your playing over two keys instead of one be restrictive? It takes nothing away from the conventional approach of playing a minor pentatonic blues scale but only adds the major pentatonic scale. In what world is this restrictive? Anyway if you're not familiar with this approach it is always where the coolest blues effects come from. It wasn't that many years ago and almost nobody seemed to know this technique.

This is a technique used by BB King for many years - although you don't have to use the full scales (pentatonics will do). The major also works better as mixolydian if you do use full scales (the flattened 7th is less tense).
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
sorry "bluesguitarmastery", but what you are saying is simply untrue and dumb. you can play major and minor pentatonic just over any chords. actually if you look at your chord tones, all three chords, whether is it the 1, 4 or 5, have chord tones both from the major and pentatonic scale (in this case G scale).
not to mention that over a 4, in this case C7, you can easily play a C major pentatonic scale and it will sound pretty good.
hey Einstein he is simply teaching a technique to help get certain sound....I think its a given that other things will work, but this is one method of thinking of blues improv...but apparently not everyone understands that.
The only way to always sound great playing Blues is to feel it every single time you pick up a guitar. It doesn't matter how many scales or boxes or patterns or techniques you know.
@blownglasslide if we all had an infinite amount of time to try every combination of sounds on the guitar perhaps. for those of us who are less philosophical about our blues music and want to learn the basics quickly this is a good lesson because whether you like it or not the original blues players knew the boxes too
@blownglasslide Disagree, hoss. If a blind man sticks his hand in a box and feels a picture, is he going to be able to translate the image? Nope. If you only know plus and minus can you divide and multiply? Nope. Can't play convincing lead to mary had a little lamb without knowing your modes and scales.
@luigiperso * yeah yeah, we heard that shit before. Make room for people who want to know more than just your feeling explanation crap*
Once you know the blues scale really goood, it's ALL feel after that. If you don't get it, you'll never get it and never play good blues. ...just sayin'. :-) btw...how many great rock players are out there that sound like shit when they play blues? 'Cause they don't 'feel' it!
@luigiperso He should teach the 5 note scales for beginners. the G major and E minor are relatives - they both have the same notes.
EGABD for Em
GABDE for G major
Same notes
And the cool thing is that there are only 2 notes per string (playing at the nut). the other super cool thing is that half of the notes are at the nut- so you don't have to remember where they are.
So all you have to remember is 3rd fret on the high e, b, and low e strings and 2nd fret on the g, d, and a strings.
@luigiperso What Blownglasslide is saying is true, if you don't enjoy what you're playing why pick up the guitar...YOU WILL play better if you're in the mood and swing of things...
Like Hendrix said "Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel".

Seems like sound advice. But, where is your jam example? My advice is a bit different though...
Learn some songs completely. Then, go to blues jams and play with real musicians until you get it right.
