btw dudes why you discuse what is best 4 pvp and pve/raids? omg frost is questing and good for pvp because of the defensive but a good fire mage is better in pvp then a bad frostmage so it doesnt matter what u use for pvp then arcane is highest dmg against singletargets lige bosses fire is aoe speak against much enemys cuz of living bomb and frostfire is biggest krits an a very fun specc. to bad they kill frostfire with cataclysm....

well FFB is better if u are JUST getting geared since it doesn't take that much mana and it does decent dmg and crits once u get geared in naxx 25 gear then go arcane otherwise u waste tons of mana as arcane right off the bat

I need to reédit my first post abit: whenever you do not have alot of mana regen and int. you should definatly specc fire since arcane consumes alot of mana.. whenever you aquired enough int/mana regen you should gear up with about 30 -40 crit change 3 - 4k sp and 700 - 800 haste and specc and learn the rotation of a arcane mage with a little bonus points of fire/frost just to increase your spell dmg. ---------> 1/2

@stijngeertshuis you do not do 15k on a normal raid boss, the highest recorded dps on the lich king 25man is 12.9k according to wowmetersonline... i'm not discounting that you do great dps, i'm just saying that since the patch you made your initial comment on, fire spec has pulled ahead on the dps charts, all specs do awesome damage, just saying what has made the records. take a look at that wowmetersonline site, it's pretty cool actually

To everyone not understanding the "Arcane does more dps but less damage" Means that Arcane is GREAT dps, but it is very mana inefficient, so your mana won't last very long. If you could get an innervate on a bit of a longer fight then you would be golden. But chances are druids will tell you to fuck yourself and give it to a priest.

for leveling you wanna go frost.

once you hit 80 and start doing HC's and raids go frostfire untill you get some nice gear then go for arcane. you can go arc or frost in pvp i prefure frost atm.

Its not viable in raids at all. Its decent for heroics and normal dungeons. Frost rotation is just spamming Frostbolt, using your pet when needed, and popping trinkets and icy veins.

And when you proc fingers of frost, pop ice lance right after.

Its really not viable for PvE, if you can link me a recount where youre even in the top 10 in raids, then Ill shut up.

Well, think of it this way

Arcane does damage at a faster rate (faster cast time and instant casts) than FFB.

Whereas FFB has slower casts and harder hitting spells, but it does not make up for the cast times of arcane. Therefore the dps of this spec is lower.

However, FFB has living bomb, so for eg, on Auriaya. Let's say your living bomb goes off right as the guardians spawned. This gives you more damage, but does not justify for the damage the arcane mage has been doing. AOE is the point.

@zanderman143 That's not all. Remember that FFB gets huge crit dmg bonus! Plus, you get to mooch off your lock's CoE and Improved SB. Ideally, you want a Destro lock keeping up CoE and doing his thing, an Aff lock keeping up all his DoTs, especially talented CoA and ISB, and an FFB mage critting almost constantly (which, of course, fuels Pyro). No need to fuck around with Scorch!

yes it will be even better, the set bonus for t8 is:

2Piece Bonus -- Your Arcane Blast, Frostbolt, Frostfire Bolt, and Fireball spells have a chance to grant you 350 spell power for 15 sec.

so thats chance to get bonus SP from FFB

4Piece Bonus -- You have a chance for the effect of your Missile Barrage, Hot Streak, or Brain Freeze talent not to be consumed when you cast the spells which benefit.

means a possiblity of 2 instant fireballs

From what ive heard and kind of from experience arcane is usually better for raiding when you are not as geared. Once you get the gear FFB is the way you got to go for the dmg imo. I like forst for pvp never really did much with arcane cept for slow and AB spam

in pvp your going to need to do different stuff in stuff like WG when there tanks use the 2x scorge and then dmg it, but on players just spam FFB and fire blast. probs the best way to go try get your hot streak for instant pyro! :D
