I disagree with these responses; maybe it's not perfect and a little awkward, but I do see a narrative relation between the video and the song. Especially the part where Ne-Yo is writing and throwing away line after line; it's symbolic of the artist's struggle to "get higher" in his craft, and Goapele refers to the struggle in the song. Also, the girl in the video is trying to move "closer" by entering a new relationship. Give or take a few scenes, this actually works out! :-)
