  • Originally this song was a single only release, but you can find it as a bonus track on the Kinda Kinks re-issue album.

  • Look at the white album. everthing from folk to reggee, to rock metal. I hadnt heard the kinks post 60's stuff. Muswell Hillbillies was given to me by a mate. classic. changed my view after an hour. stop this stupid fuckin kinks beatles debate. long live good music. thats what i say.

  • I see all your comments are NEGATIVE . I LOVE the kinks,do you ,idiot? grow up yourself! The world breaks everyone.

  • Nice song! ? these are the great KINKS!! Father pulls the maid , man! It's an ion exchange.

  • Nice song..:D

  • hahahah

  • Why are all the comments on this video about the beatles.

Anyway i love this song, and the beatles rock to!

  • I love the Kinks

  • this is my favorite Kinks song EVER!! (so yeah, i liked it)

  • greatest working class band ever ..when this came out i was 12 years old & it moved me in ways i had no idea !!!!!!!!

  • You guys talking rots! This is The Kinks. The Kinks....got it?!?!

  • Tell that to the nutcases who started criticizing the Beatles. I wouldn't have even mentioned them if those people didn't start with their comments.

  • this is so current of todays america people so self absorbed reminds me of just the yuppies 80's.

  • I thought Yuppies were in the 90's.

  • this kinky guy luvs THE KINKS!!

  • Amazing performance

  • Um... let's just listen to The Kinks...

  • Ray Davies - one of the absolute best British songwriters ever

  • love them. awsome

their voice and the tunes-- good music, dont like music from this day so much -- rap is disgusting

  • I agree - but not all music from now is rap.

    <3 The Kinks

  • i think ray davies is hot...i dont think thats normal..but he is!!! =p

  • ahh i love the kinks and really enjoy their music, this song reminds me of being 14 years old, hanging out in my bedroom and listening to the kinks albums all night long, singing along to the songs :-)

  • This song reminds me of George Bush

  • This song remind me of the movie Juno

    Very original movie!

The girl looks so much like me (personality wise) when i was fifteen years old or around that age..

very mentally free...still i am like that :)

  • aww, theyre so young there!!!!

    great band!!!

  • Great! ;D

  • They are moshing in the back lol

  • Ray has the smile of a crazy clown...

  • As eric Burton said about Ray DAvies, "he is the poet laureate of rock and roll"

  • And you sir,are a cunt

  • The birth of punk rock. They want to mosh in the back they just don't know how to do it yet.

  • not quite evolved yet. lol good one.

  • i love the kinks. this song is great, but it also shows how monotonous life can be.

  • the true kings of the 1960's were the stones and the kinks- now thats rock 'n' roll!

i dont care wht people say how'amazing the beatles were' i think they were boring.

    long live the kings!

  • yeah, the beatles were boring as hell, and overrated. but bob dylan and the velvet underground!

  • yeah man!

the stones, kinks and dylan were much more interesting!

  • the kinks had rays lyrical genius!

the stones had brian jones' musical genius!

dylans just amazing in every way.

the beatles sung about love love love. not much else.

i don't see why everyone loved them so much they werent tht talented.

i think its because the stones were the rude rebels and the beatles were goody boys haha.

and the kinks were the kinks - just brilliant in every way!

    feck the beatles!

  • Yeah....too bad you're incredily wrong there, buddy.

Trust me, I like all the band equally, but to say the Beatles just sung about love, and not much else, is COMPLETELY wrong. Listen to some of the things you don't hear on the radio from their later albums. There's some pretty trippy stuff there.

  • you obviously don't know very much about the beatles.

  • i know enough to decide whether i like them or not you silly twat!

    they were boooring

  • that's fine that you find them boring. but you said all they sang about was love. which is simply a false statement, hence why i said you don't know very much about them.

  • They were not boring. If singing about love is boring, then the Stones and the Kinks would be in the same category. They also sang about love. If you listened to enough Beatles' songs, especially from their later albums, you would know they didn't song about love all the time.

  • the beatles voices - boring. they're songs - boring. john lennon - boring.

  • Then you are not a mature person at all. You can't even comment constructively, and you can't even explain why you think the Beatles' music is boring. I feel sorry for you. You can appreciate many other great artists of the fifties and sixties, but you save all your hatred for the Beatles. I think it's all because they got more attention than the others. That was not the Beatles' intent. Even the Hollies went with commercial trends rather then inventing them, and they also sang about love.

  • i can explain why i dont like the beatles, i dont like their voices, they sing like a bunch of girls, i just dont like them.

can't someone just not like a band

  • yes!

  • Dont forget the Kinks went an incredibly brief phase of love songwriting until Ray found his feet as a songwriter in about late 65- early 66. They are famous for writing about anything but love. Take this song for example - I'd hardly say this was about love, and there are many kinks songs like this. Ray is famous for his lyrical originality - he wrote about English life and subtle social commentaries, and even his own personal experiences - groundbreakers which changed the course of rock music.

  • I agree; just listen to the lyrics of the songs on 'Schoolboys in Disgrace'. It's one of my favorite LPs.

  • the rolling stones were posh middle class boys from kent, wheras the beatles grew up rough working class areas in liverpool and john was an orphan. the beatles paved the way for the stones and the kinks

  • nah the beatles were shit

  • your shit. the beatles are the greatest most influential band in the history of music.

  • wrong. they may be the most popular band of all time but that hardly makes them the most influental musicians of all time. as far as rock and roll is concerned the blues muscians were probably the most influental. they influced the beatles, stones, and the person who pretty much is the father of rock and roll which is elvis. so dont get your adjectives confused their; most popular yes, yet most influental no.

  • HAHA elvis?! you've got to be kidding me! Elvis had no musical talent whatsoever he may have had a "good" voice but he didn't write his songs, so you can hardly count him as a musician. the beatles may have been the most popular. but they are also the most influential band in ROCK history. how did they get there? oh i know. they have talent =p

  • haha nicole. is in a fight!!! with people!!! go nicole!!lol. win win!! lol jk. BUT without elvis there would BE no beatles!!!!!!!!

  • yeah there would. they listened to buddy holly! :) hes got talent (:3=

  • oh i looooveeeeeee buddy hollyyyyy(= way better than elvis.=P

  • i never said anything about elvis' talent. which im quite sure there were much more talented musicians in his time. that is not the argument however. he is the one who really brought rock n roll mainstream and commercialized it. all i am saying is elvis paved the way for everyone within the genre to become the successes they did. he brought rock n roll to the fore front of society and anyone who followed after him can thank elvis for paving that road for them.

  • psh. yeah right. what about Buddy Holly?!?

  • the beatles are the highest selling band of all time

  • You're pretty boring, too. They weren't overrated. Just because music critics praised them too much, it isn't the Beatles' fault.

  • Yeah, and you're as stupid as hell.

  • ray has bi-polar poor lad. but he looks like the happiest man alive when hes playing his guitar and singing!

god bless the kinks - so original, lyrical genius!

  • the way they stand...the chord patterns....the haircuts...stage movements....equipment...original? thats all i'll say..

  • Do you think they were influenced by the Beatle song Eleanor Rigby?

  • no the beatles were shit!

the kinks were so much more original.

    the beatles are so overrated.

ray can write songs about everything, the beatles just wrote about love booooring

  • the singer his smile is so funny and how he is a wobble on his chair ;)

  • the beatles get too much credit for rock and roll. i mean theyre cool and all, but the kinks are like a grittier catchier version.

i like indie rock the best, but oldies are ok.

definitely in love with the kinks though.

  • check out my son's band; SLOTHBEAR

  • That was not their doing. The overdone praise they got was from music critics who did not know any better than to make the same comments over and over. The Beatles themselves never claimed to be the best in their field, and were musicians trying to make music, like the Kinks and other singers and bands of the time. I'm sick of some idiots on this thread (not you) badmouthing them.

  • And you think you know everything about all types of music. YOU DON'T!

  • You don't either!

  • Au Contrare mon frere, i'll have you know i know quite a large amount about the kinks, which, in my mind is impressive seeing as im only 17.

  • awesome!

  • GREAT!!!

  • greatness

  • What a song.. what a great singer!!

  • What the hell are you on about? The kinks are brilliant, just cause you don't like them doesn't make them shit.

  • lol?

  • are u simple minded then?

you must be if you watching them......

what d'you listen to very very clever music such as?

  • Do ya'll know what year this was??? Thank you :)

  • 1965

  • My parents used to dance this song!

  • What would be 'Rock Music' without "The KINKS"??? Surely an incomplete kind of music. Great Band with Great Songs and Great Lyrics, but don't forget Great Voices, Great Instruments, Great Clothes and some of the most SHREWD MINDS IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!!!!Definitely A WELL RESPECTABLE BAND!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I totally agree and a quite underrated band nowadays, I guess.

  • 1:03 is a funny face.

  • Such a great song! This lets me know what it would of been like seeing them in the day!

  • Great song and video, thanks to Rob. for the share,,cheeers,,Mick.

  • as in a good thing. i luv it so much! :D

  • Geez, i cant help melting when i listen to this sonng

  • ray can write songs about everything and anything - genius!

  • His arm sweat smells the best!!! I love it!

  • I lucking fove this song

  • Masterpiece ... ! :D

  • great!!!!!!!!!

  • long live the kinks and ray davies is such a brilliant songwriter!!!

  • i think this song is so bad ass story of my life

  • word

  • I love this song!

  • Gera daina / Good song

  • I Mean really. What can I say? Pure genius

  • <3 i fucking love this song :D :D

  • /watch?v=6oAXbSk1BRQ

    live sound, same video...

  • is well!!

  • Yes, this version is much faster than the version I have from three different albums. Is it because it is a live performance?

  • Weird, the version I have of this is a bit slower. This one sounds a little manic to me.

    Great song and great band!

  • Studio recording with live video footage.

    Hah.

  • bluesandfly;

I think most people would put Sunny Afternoon and Waterloo Sunset in the top 10 Kinks songs of all time, along with YRGM, All Day and All Night, Victoria, 20th Century Man, Shangri La, Set Me Free, well, I could just keep going

  • well thats right kinksboss, you can just keep going, and can think of better songs than waterloo sunset like as you said victoria etc.

plastic man ,till the end of the day, lola, days, the roblem is the kinks just made so many great tunes with well respected man one of the best.

  • Ray Davis is one of the very best songwriters of his generation! This song more than solidifies my point.

  • sunny afternoon or waterloo sunset wouldnt be in the top ten kinks songs

  • This song is about George W. How prophetic!

  • Dunno how to explain but, I like how this song is like a little story.

  • Totally underrated band!!!

  • Fab video!

  • this is one of the best kinks songs, why isn't it longer? i could listen to this all day!

  • Elvis Costello was such a huge Kinks fan...he deliberately has his upper front teeth separted!

Well, I'm not so sure about the teeth but I do know he credits the Kinks right up there with the Beatles.

  • Well respected band

  • Well respected comment.

  • aweboooo! Si to te gustan

    ¬¬ traga pithoo! :D

  • They were meant for ElGoodo by the way

  • Oh thanks! For a second there I wasn't sure who you were talking too. I just thought you replied to my original comment to comment about someone else. But thanks to your third consecutive pointless reply I now know that it was me your were talking about. Thank you, you well respected man!

  • By the way I realized I have made spelling mistakes. It's a sad fact of life and I've learned to accept it, so any effort to try and criticize my online typing skills will be futile!

  • you sound like the comic guy from the simpsons dude funny lol take care

  • Ahaha I was on a roll...I had enjoyed a "harry rag" shortly before that message haha

  • don't say that sandfordmill.

  • I love this song! Ray's lyrics were probably the best in 60's British rock (yes even better than Lennon's and Dylan was American so he doesn't count.) He was always so sarcastic and witty I love it.

Anyone who loves Ray Davies writing should check out my new song "Low-Cost Song" it was written yesterday after listening to "Working Man's Cafe" all day.

It's a sarcastic, comical, commentary on modern societies use of cheap products. Check it out.

  • You are a deadset idiot. You will never amount to anything. You waste air, water, food, shelter and time by living. You are talentless. You have no idea about the world, life or music.

  • You are a pathetic excuse for a sentient being. You waste air, food, water, shelter and time by merely living. You have no talent and your life will amount to nothing. No one cares about your opinions or your music. Just do everyone a favour and sit in a dark room and never communicate with anyone ever again.

  • fav. :*

  • yeah he definitely doesn't sound like john lennon, haha.

  • this eems spead up like 2 times fatser either that or im stoned

  • Yer stoned but it's all good we still love you.

  • Uh... nope... he doesn't really sound anything like John Lennon.

  • um... no he doesn't

  • its not john lennon

  • i know i was commenting on another post who said jon lennon is better or somthing

  • crazy old dubbed live vids :)
