  • aw yeah... the heliosphan live version is sooo gude

  • i read somewhere that rdj experiments with frequencies in the background of his songs, enough so that you dont really notice them consciously but so that they just put you on edge or make you a bit more alert, or calm. i'm sure there is some of that going on in this song

  • One of my favorite songs, by my favorite artists. This song instantly calms my puppy down and makes it easier for her to sleep.

  • This song is beautiful!

  • dislike button isn't dowload : D

  • I adore this record. :)

  • have heard to this tune a million times.. the most beautiful track ever

  • Could anyone else imagine this song in Minecraft? Or at least the over-arching melody?

  • Does anyone hear a frequency in the background or am I just crazy?

  • @ruchigotrouble You are crazy! hahahahaha Just kidding, I hear it too.

  • the actual 'tha' sound to the song reminds me of a person's heartbeat steadily beating as they undergo anesthesia and surgery, i imagine the vocals throughout the song to be the surgeon and his medical team standing above the patient. I imagine the whole thing being an out of body experience in the form of sound as the patient looks over his own body being preformed on. I get visuals of this as I fall asleep to it in bed, i'm happy humans can be so imaginative.

  • @VeeVeeVienna That's a beautiful interpretation...

  • just tried that, you sir are a genius........

  • brain dance

  • dont you realised that hitting your tooth is a like that sound in background of this track? whoa, im strange...

  • This song is both simple and unimaginably complex at the same time. Richard James is a genius.

  • @yaaancey couldn't say it better

  • It's funny to see how much argument is going on around a song that is meant to do nothing but relax you.

  • One of the greatest constructions created.

  • I'm looking for a song that i heard years aggo by aphex twin had a real jappenese theme to it but unfortunately don't know the name can anyone help

  • @vincikd007bg008 maybe caustic window - italic eyeball

  • @vincikd007bg008 z-twig

  • This song is full of DMT.

  • Reminds me of lobbing tomatoes at the tourist bus from Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, Summer of '97 while we were trying to revise for finals

  • I concur with Citizen Spliff 3 months ago :-)

  • Around the 3:50 mark, where I'm utterly in love with Aphex Twin... Can you hear the wobbling metal sheet in the background? Well it's starting to sound like a drum gradually, and I'm starting to hear amazing bass sounds flowing in. Sounds beautiful, and raw! Heck even the electronic sounds sound raw :3 This whole album is the most exciting thing I've heard this year.

  • Damn this is tha shit

  • very nice.

  • Best raves of my life

    Best drugs of my life

    Best time of my life.

  • @Herne72 Cool story bro.

  • This is "Tha" thing I listen to when I need to relax for 9 minutes and 14 seconds! XD

  • The percussion in this almost sounds like rain drizzling gently outside on a summer day while you're watching some TV show in the afternoon as a kid. Video games from the Playstation era come to mind. I could also see this being the soundtrack to some calm beach, like Actium from the same album.

  • dis is wot the cavemen listened to on their ipods wen hunting

  • @citizenspliff And you're the sort of chav that ruins this sort of music.

  • @Elltrixer you're the sort of person that ruins life.

  • @citizenspliff Speak for yourself maggot :)

  • @Elltrixer

Ah, I see. Feelings, thoughts and emotions connected inextricably to any sort of media are only to be expressed if the person wishing to express his/her feelings, thoughts and/or emotions takes the time to spell check his/her expression. If he/she does not do this then he/she is a 'chav'; he/she 'ruins this sort of music'.

Each expression, online or off, coherently expressed or incoherently expressed, is just as valid as the next.

  • im hamerd escaping one of the sht clubs we have here. This rocks mutherfuckers

  • very good track.

There is now research into Psylicibin to be used in the treatment of depression ! Same with any drug out there moderation is key and as for drugs causing or being the catalyst is true and the lament aspect holds weight too !!!

  • 1 John 5:13

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

  • Brilliant.

I love you so much Aphex Twin! <3

  • can anyone suggest other albums, artists, or songs with a similar sound to early aphex twin - this album in particular

  • Comment removed

  • @andrewcramer13 hmm... William Orbit earlier stuff, Pete Namlook , Boards of Canada "A few old tunes" (not commercially released). Eno. Especially Pete Namlook though.

You should try Scanner as well, he used to make ambient stuff (early 90's) interspersed with weird phone call stuff. Oh , and KLF chillout album.

    Happy Hunting.

  • @andrewcramer13 Autechre's early work; Incunabula '93 and amber '94

  • 8 people can't appreciate good music when they hear it. Good emotional tune!

  • Brilliant, beautiful, nostalgic and uplifting at the same time, like a reminiscence of wonderful summer holidays from the childhood, the smell of it and all the feelings connected to it, music that stand the test of time, music that will always exist in the hearts of those listeners who understand and appreciate it, most of SAW 85-92 tracks gives me shivers and this wonderful, blissful and nostalgic kind of feeling, this and 'Incunabula' by Autechre are pretty close in some way, love both!

  • @subradial

    ill second that !!!

  • Amazing, brilliant, superb. One of the best ambient songs ever recorded, this or Eno (Ascent). Breathtakingly pretty, amazing, brilliant, superb :) Thank you so very much Mr James. Amazing! Your hard dance style is nice too, saw you in London this year, but your past ambiance is absolute genius, please, please, please do more, please!

  • @FUCKSALT666

Esctasy doesn't drain away your spinal fluid, nor have any affect on the spine whatsoever.

It's a myth propagated by a misconception over a study into the effects of ecstasy where they required extracting a sample of spinal fluid for chemical/hormonal tests.

    Just so you know! =P

  • awesome truely, i cant imagin how he must of felt when he made this

  • this song is about clinical death... sound of the respirator and peoples voices in background...

  • heard this, when I was 16, it was snowing outside and i was watching all the tiny flakes coming down in all its beauty, the place where i was at that time doesn´t exist anymore, some of the people from that time are dead or just disappeared, meanwhile i´m 33 and still in love with this music

  • @wickedwetcat I'm high and that is the deepest thing anyone has ever said, ever.

  • this is amazing talent right here! ,

  • I wish he would make Selected Ambient Works Vol.3

  • I see Aphex Twin credited as an inspiration for so many artists, followed by "he changed the way I thought about/defined music."

Which he did for me as well... I just don't have anything to show for it except a new cd collection. ^^

  • makes me want to live deep in the rain forest without a care in the world....

  • send some more "like or dislike" to the shart, does a great favour for all! (...) MHUHUHUHUUUHAHAHAHAAAaaaa.....!!!

    Greetzzz, Auphexre

  • Every night I fall asleep to both of his Selected Ambient Works CDs

  • @dcoolio I'd do the same thing if I owned them.

  • @19Labrie63 Why don't you buy them or download them? They're amazing if you have the capacity to enjoy them.

  • @dcoolio I may download them soon, I would rather own the actual CD (or vinyl, if it exists) though, so I mightt scrounge up enough for them

  • @19Labrie63 @19Labrie63 Aphex Twin vinyls are sometimes hard to come by, especially his SAW albums, but if you go to musicstack . com and search for the vinyls there, they have some. This website has basically any electronic music on vinyls, especially aphex twin.

  • @dcoolio Hell ya man. Same here.

  • monster

  • around 1:45 sounds like people having a smoke. The clicks are the lighters being ignited.

I wonder where Richard gets his samples from.

  • this song is made for a brain that needs good sound

  • True ambient :)

  • Tha és Xtal...megérte megszületni!!

  • love this tune so much. haunting.

  • 8:25 til the end is absolutely timeless. My favorite Aphex track from SAW 1.

Richard D. James is a god.

  • how can a song be that white?

  • Way ahead of his time- in my mind, still is

  • esta wea se escucha fumando weedah

  • ESTA MUSICA SE ESCUCHA FUMANDO MARIHUANA

  • still so futuristic

  • I wanna listen to this high on LSD but can't find it anywhere where I live :(

  • @Fernandoffl

    watch it kid,

lsd rocks. but your body doesnt break down the stuff. it just gets tucked away in your fatcells.

and perhaps when you are sick, or losing weight...you can get in to a permanent trip wich often end up in suicide, or something else tragic.

do XTC instead, thats less fucked up .............everybody will hate me now for taking the fun out of their LSD dreams :')

  • @kaashaas Haha thanks... always heard you can have flashbacks if you used LSD... well, maybe i try some Ecstasy instead

  • @kaashaas thats a myth. it does not create these problems (especially permanent schizophrenia, or complete nutiness). you would have to already have these latent mental conditions for this to take place. also, for a bad trip to happen you would have to put yourself in an uncomfortable environment, or be in a really shitty mood before you take it. just be smart about it, and have a tripsitter around, and you should be absolutely fine. it also sits in your spine, not in your fat cells. thats weed

  • @prefusehead pretty sure you don't know what you're talking about dude, it has def. been linked with causing (or maybe, if you prefer, "activating") mental problems in the long-term

and even if you could somehow say that those problems were already "latent" in the person, surely it's still a bad thing if a drug causes them to erupt in a permanently destructive way? Don't see how you can say this is nothing to worry about

plus I'm pretty sure the spine thing is total bullshit.

  • @trianglemangler its nothing more than a catalyst, the brain does the rest. its also common knowledge that it sits in your spine. I'm not arguing about this.

  • @trianglemangler

But if it is already latent in the person, it will erupt eventually. And yes it do run in our genes whether or not you get insane at some point in your life, or if you develop some sort of disease. Science has pretty much established that, especially concerning mental illness such as alzheimers and schizophrenia.

  • @trianglemangler

And you obviously know no one with a mental illness if you did you would know that it doesn't matter what starts it, how it starts, why it started. It will always be permanent and it will always be destructive.

And even if you are able to suppress it for a while it will almost always come right back.

  • @KissMuseren get some counselling. perhaps just try and enjoy this wicked tune rather than bitching about shit that no one cares about.

  • @Marvin342853

    Amen

  • the chillest of chill tunes.

  • Totally Blade Runner 2!

Deckard & Rachael in train...going on honeymoon.

    "FREEEEZE NOBODY MOVES!"

"Hey son, listen, just drop the gun and we'll be friends, ok?"

"hey, know what? You already addressed me as your child, and you know, they never listen!"

    BaBAM!

  • @Rubberaphex lmfao. orly?

  • @violentpetals SuperORLY!

  • @deancoxable ...I am one of those crazy looking fishes .

  • my favorite

  • also a keen ear will notice the very symmetrical shift in beats in quite a few of his songs changing the whole structure almost as if its cleansing the nerves

  • @IsmokerocksTyrone An astute observation. I generally listen to Aphex Twin to rewire my brain, I noticed last year that after chilling out to a playlist of nothing but select songs by Aphex Twin that it completely took away the usually malign thoughts and disdain I generally carry for the world. It's good reprogramming because of this symmetry and the way it communicates to the base functions of the conscious and sub-conscious.

  • @kilderok Agreed, the Analord series is something else. Some of his live performances are things I could only picture him forming on psychedelics during a vision of a nexus to another universe adding the glitching schizophrenic drum beat affect. Much like that style of dancing that occurs when it looks like the person's body is "laggin" or glitching out.

  • @IsmokerocksTyrone Just type in "best break dance" above.^

  • @kilderok and now for something completely different.

  • the echo sticks in as one with the song like sound tracers total acid song right here the beat pattern with the echo and just whole song in general is a trip and a half

  • Nine minutes feel like two minutes when I hear this song.

  • I always wonder how Aphex Twin makes seemingly simple songs so interesting. He does a lot of subtle things that you don't really notice.

  • I fucking love this tune. Love love love it

  • This is actually a very interesting song to listen to before I go to sleep...this, "Alberto" Balsam" "Flim" and "On" try it some time :P

  • @jamieboyrockon I wholeheartely agree, specifically Aberto Balsalm and On are personal favorites of mine for relaxing before I sleep.

  • If you ever meet an alien, pop this in the CD player and save the fucking world. I bet they'd love it.

  • Anyone with the ability to appreciate aphex twin is an intelligent person.

  • @LubricatedBeat

Agreed. His light ambient is purifying, and his dark side is fascinating.

  • @LubricatedBeat What a ridiculously snobbish thing to say that bares no relevance or basis in facts.

  • @dizzyopz based on a personal correlation. Out of everyone i've met and known personal, the ones who knew of Aphex Twin and owned records didn't have radios, or buy into the new trendy pop music. I stand by my statement, people that can appreciate the depth and emotional music Richard composes is intelligent :)

  • @LubricatedBeat 'are intelligent'...surely? And anyway, would you say this is the case for all his music? Because I know plenty of people that love this album (Selected Ambient Works 2) but can't stand Drukqs, for instance. What does this make them? In my opinion, this album (SAW2) is far more accessible than Drukqs...so does that make those people that love Drukqs or at least 'get it' MORE intelligent?! Or should we just enjoy music for what it is and fuck the IQ test...?

  • @dizzyopz im pretty sure this is off Selected Ambient Works Vol. 1

  • @dizzyopz fuck those snobbish gay sociopaths

  • @protobuddha

I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments, but I have to point out that you claimed 'those sociopaths' are 'gay'. The dictionary definition of 'sociopath' is 'A person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior and a lack of conscience'. Wouldn't the use of 'gay' as a derogatory term perhaps be filed under the rank of an 'extreme antisocial attitude'? Just sayin'.

  • @dizzyopz It's from Selected Ambient Works 1 mate...

  • @dizzyopz

This is SAW1, and SAW 2 is much less accessible than Drukqs, if anything Drukqs is one of the most accessible albums he's done. Most people will prefer breakcore or acid techno over ambient, you can't dance to it.

  • @AnotherRandomGeek have to disagree. The general public aren't into erratic drum beats like we are. It takes some getting used to.

  • @sleestack808 That's true, but despite how abrasive it may be, at least people don't describe it as "falling asleep music".

  • @dizzyopz Fuck you. Please answer me in a snobbish and super-intelligent way. Won't read it anyway.

  • @acidvalium Dickhead.

  • @dizzyopz What a snobbish thing for you to say and get on the highest rated comments for...

  • @LubricatedBeat totally agree!!!

  • @LubricatedBeat you are so completely correct, but to be so bold as to say something like that, i acknowledge your statement.

  • @LubricatedBeat yeaah lickin' your own ass is so awesome :D

  • @LubricatedBeat intelligent, stuffed assholes

  • @LubricatedBeat this is a stupid thing, i love aphex twin but i don't feel like i'm more intelligent than any other people

  • @LubricatedBeat

And, everyone who doesn't is an idiot!

  • @LubricatedBeat no..but lot's of people boast they listen to him because they think it makes them appear intelligent..the best thing about Mr James' music is how beautifully simple it is

  • The Intro Is Awesome!

    So Is The Whole Song.

  • This song is so good it gives me shivers.

  • I've got Selected Ambient Works 85-92 on disc.

    When listening to this song...

Trust me those 9 mins fly by

It doesn't feel long enough because this song is too good to have an ending...

  • I imagine myself sleeping on a bench at an empty train/airport terminal with headphones on, dreaming to the music while a man&woman carry out a conversation nearby; maybe they're employees there. the way the voices echo by without being discernible puts me in a dream

  • ✩★✫

  • doesnt this remind you of planet earth deep ocean with all of the crazy looking fish that have been isolated for millions of years

  • @deancoxable absolutely :P

  • @deancoxable

Yes! Now that you mentioned it. It kinda amuses me actually :)

  • @deancoxable reminds me of deep atlatean undergound paths that lead to agartha.

Almost everybody is telepathic and look like really tall nordics. They are so at one with nature only the fewest of them talk, and when they do the ecco of the few words reverberates through long tunnels. It's a groovy, calm and technologically advanced chillout lounge.
