@77moessa They aren't going out of their way to just destroy every tree in sight, you know? They have a specific, preplanned route that needs to be as sure as possible is clear from mines/IEDs. The trees that are on that route are removed, and the ones that are not are left alone.

@77moessa I would wager that 90%+ of the US soldiers in Afghanistan would rather NOT be there actually. As to whether or not they *should* be there, that is a topic that can be debated ad infinitum. Now, if you were to call some of the high-ranking officers scumbags, giving the soldiers orders from the other side of the world, I might not be able to disagree with you. But they do try to warn and protect civilians, significantly more so than almost any conflict in history.
