  • They should reinstate the juvenile award again, or at least a promising newcomer award like BAFTA does. It would give young up-and-comers something to strive for.

  • Would have been nice to see Maggie Smith. I love that three stars of The Poseidon Adventure were there (my all time favorite movie..... don't ask...... lol).

  • You have no choice but to accept that the people in this country can't be all that bad when Shirley Temple gets the loudest applause of the night! It brought tears to my eyes when I first saw it back in 1997/8 and still does.

    WOW!

(She is a distant cousin of mine too)

  • Very, very cool. It's sad that so many are now gone, but thank goodness their work still lives on.

  • Gloria Stuart should have won!!!!!

  • Wow, Louise Rainier looks so frail here--and, amazingly, she's still alive at 101!

  • Should have been Gloria Stuart & Kate Winslet instead of Kim Basinger & Helen Hunt that won that night.

  • shirley temple....an example of what child actors are suppose to be...

    educated !

  • Hey its Shirley Temple YAY!!!!

  • SHIRLEY TEMPLE made the audience rocks...........

  • POOR JOE PESCI!!!!! he was outshined by two great stars- GREGORY PECK and SIDNEY POITIER

  • How lovely to see Claire Trevor!

  • Love Jack Nicholson reminding everyone at home that he'd just won his third Oscar.

  • one of the greatest oscar moments in history !!!!

  • i love this !!!

  • @XxlovemerylstreepxX I believe Meryl attended the 2003 Oscars when they did the Family Album. Every past winner is invited when they do this segment so she must not have attended that year.

  • @tmb110

Also Jessica Lange, Jodie Foster, Emma Thompson, Sally Field & Daniel Day Lews were not present that night.

  • where is Meryl Streep ?? she won 2 oscars in 1979 and 1982 !!!

  • @XxlovemerylstreepxX Al Pacino also wasn't here... I think they didn't want to come.

  • @Prechtl91 So you mean child actors like 1.) DAKOTA FANNING; 2.) ABIGAIL BRESLIN are not?

  • @MrPrincebinondo I don't know what you mean. What did I write about child actors?

  • Thank you very very much for posting this video about 70th Annual Academy Awards(1998, not 1997. But thank you again!!!!!)

  • @dldee912 You are right! It aired in 1998 but it was for the 1997 films.

  • How sweet is Maximillian Schell kissing Kim Basinger's hand!

  • Luise Rainer is totally extraordinary

  • So lovely to see Mercedes McCambridge

  • So many gone from us. Love, love Teresa Wright. Love, love Gregory Peck.

I'm so happy Shirley Temple got such an enthusiastic applause. Yes, GP and Sidney P and a few others got applauded nicely but, wow, Shirley brought the house down.

Louise Rainer won the FIRST Oscar and she is still with us! Unbelievably talented in The Good Earth.

  • @1867TrueNorth Juise Rainer didn't win the first oscar, Janet Gaynor did.

  • @Grundig80 Yes, of course, you're right - what was I thinking! She is the first to win back to back Oscars. Thanks for the correction.

  • GREGORY PECK and SHIRLEY TEMPLE were applauded...

  • Shirley T in the house!
